and Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP.
Important notice: Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later must be installed on Windows 95, Windows 98 and
Windows NT4 before AMOS Mail can be installed. AMOS Mail uses some OS features that were not standard
on these platforms. These features are distributed as part of Microsoft Internet Explorer.

allows the user to open a backup AMOS Mail database in a separate client window without closing
the current mailbox.
• A progress dialog now appears during shutdown.
• AMOS Mail will now always terminate maximum two minutes after the user selected “Exit and
Sign Out”. Earlier, the application could hang e.g. when a modem device did not respond.

inside the window.
• AMOS Mail will now automatically restart after a crash.
• It is now possible to type an SMTP address directly into the “Find” field in the address book and
add this recipient as a “one off recipient” to the message.
• Several new command line options has been implemented
• -d <directory> opens the database in specified directory.
• -r Opens the database in read-only mode.
• -u <mailbox> Log on to specified mailbox.

it possible to reference the message number in the message itself.
• The table list in AMUtils.exe window “Table tools” is now sorted.
• Mssinp command line syntax extended with option –db <database path>. 5.1.6
• An option “Never display connection progress dialogs” has been added to “Local Post Office 5.1.61
Release Notes for AMOS Mail version 5.2
Preferences”. This option is a quick-fix to a bug that displays the “Connection Progress” dialog on
the server side when older post offices connect via TCP/IP. The bug itself will of course be
corrected in the next release.
• Device labels are now displayed next to device names in the left side tree-view in Ammon.exe.
• Messages are now automatically stored in WorkBox when a spell check sesion is invoked. This is
done because the spell checker has been reported to crash the application causing the current
message to be lost. This change will prevent that and hopefully make it possible to reproduce and
correct the bug.

HTML documents ManXxx.html also in the distribution.
• The database utility – amutils.exe – now remembers the path to the database files.

feature requires AMOS Mail 5.1.7 or newer on both sides!
• Ammon.exe will use device label in log file names.

has been added.
• When the checkbox “Ask before closing app window” in user preferences is checked, the Cancel 5.2.0.1
button will be default in the messagebox that appears when one closes the application.
• On some systems it could take several seconds to create a new message because the message id was 5.2.1
generated at an earlier stage. A new setting under Local PO Management->Preferences “Assign
message ID…” have been added so that this can be configured.
• A new field under Modem Properties – GSM Text – “SMS Prefix” is added. This field can be used
when a GSM modem is attached directly to the system for sending SMS’es via the SMS gateway, to
specify a text prefix for each message. This can fx. be used on some GSM operators to avoid
sending the number of the GSM modem.
• Implemented AHDLC plugin to allow use of Fleet and GAN terminals without an external ISDN
terminal adapter. This setting is found under Remote – Modem services – Details – Email.
• A download headers feature is implemented for both the tcp/ip protocol and the dialup protocol.
This is controlled from the filter tab in the connect dialogboxes. The partial downloaded messages

statistics window.
• A new option “Show unread msgs. count” is added to User Preferences – Miscelaneous. When this
option is turned on all folders that contains unread messages will turn bold and show the number of
unread messages after it’s name. The reason it can be turned off is that is may take to much
resources on some systems either with many folders or a slow system in general.
• The option “Host locked out” is now also available for tcp/ip connecting hosts.
• A new option “connect” for the runAM utility is added. This can be used to invoke a dialup to a
specified remote post office from the commandline. Ex: “runam connect amos1 tapi1”
• A new pushbutton “Calculate statistics” in folder properties have been implemented to be able to
calculate how much space in the database each folder is holding.

• A bug that made it impossible to connect the db utility to the database when the computer name
exceeded 15 characters has been corrected.
• Wrong address book icons were used under some circumstances. 5.1.2
• Duplicated entries in AMOS Mail Monitor suppressed.
• The part “Visma” in the AMOS Mail registry keys has changed to “Xantic”

goes bold on the connect event.
• If there was a size limit on an entry in the Internet Alias list and the destination address was an
address on the local PO, then the server would allow messages that exceeded the limit.
• When attaching a file to AMOS Mail the system did not check that the whole file was successfully
read. This could result in only part of an attachment being sent.
• On some GSM phones (at least Nokia phones) a timeout of 3 seconds when waiting for response
after sending an SMS was not enough. This caused AMOS Mail to beleive that the SMS sending
failed when it actually worked. This timeout is now increased to 10 seconds.

have free space more than the size of the .dat file itself.

• The automatic crash recovery function has been revised to collect more information about the
incident. This added information does however make the total file size a lot larger. For that reason,
the user is no longer asked to forward the information to Xantic Support. Instead, the information is
kept on the local computer only. The logged-on user is still notified about the incident.
• A bug in the TCP/IP gateway traffic logging has been corrected. This bug could cause Amos Mail
to enter into an infinite loop when closing connections.

would occur if the system was in one particular state when a message entered the system, and the
message contained multiple addresses that resolved to the same recipient at the end of the recipient
list. E.g. two distribution lists with the same recipients.
