TASK 2: PREPARING THE RESEARCH
A. Conduct preliminary research on your chosen research topic by
visiting your library and surfing the Internet. Here are the guidelines
for this task:
1. Obtain copies of at least 10 reference materials that are relevant to
your chosen topic and taken from reliable sources (e.g., books,
scholarly journals, Google scholar, and other reputable online
sources.)
2. Take note of the bibliographic information of the materials you
gathered. These include the following:
a. Author and title of the source
b. Date and place of publication
c. Edition and name of publisher
d. Volume and issue number
e. Link where the material can be accessed and date the
material was retrieved (for online sources)
3. Choose reference materials that will also help you establish the
need to conduct the study or justify your research topic.
4. Use the soft copy of your reference materials.
B. Using the available reference materials, come up with a tentative
thesis statement for your selected topic. Be sure to apply the
guidelines in writing an effective thesis statement.
Online learning has a positive impact on the learners, teachers and the
institution offering these courses.
C. Using your thesis statement as a basis, list three to four specific
research questions for your study.
1. How online classes affect students' mental health?
2. What are the positive impacts of online class?
3. What are some strategies of teachers to get the attention of
their students?
4. As a student which do you prefer, online or f2f classes?
D. Provide the background of your study. Use relevant print and online
references. Write down the information you have gathered regarding the
following:
1. The current state of the field
Online enrollment increased by 42.59 percent from 2012 to 2017.
That’s almost one million more online students over the course of
six years. Compare this to total enrollment, including online and
on-campus master’s and bachelor’s degrees: Total enrollment in
these award levels has increased by only 0.74 percent in the same
time.
2. The research problem (the issue/s to be addressed by the study)
Internet Connection Truth be told, our country is an internet-challenged
country. A problem that had caused delays implementing remote
learning in general. Although internet plans exist; they are not,
however, created equal. Hence, in online classes, there was never a
day when a student hasn’t voiced out complaints such as “Can
someone tell the professor I/he/she got disconnected?” “Oops! Where
did he go? (referring to the professor who doesn’t realize he got cut
off), “I have unstable Wifi”, “Do you guys see/hear me?”. We are in the
city and yet we experience such mishaps. What more are those
students who are stuck in remote places where signal isn’t as strong
as what we city dwellers have? They are forced to “move mountains”
just to get a bar or two.
3. The current practices and convention used in addressing the issue
Explicitly teach expectations and engagement. Video and distance learning is
a totally different medium of teaching and learning. Both you and your students may need
time and support to learn how to learn and engage effectively in this space Assume that
students have a wide range of skills when it comes to technology for virtual learning. That
includes learning with digital materials and connecting for learning through virtual
conferencing. And the technology students have access to for distance learning will vary.
4. The research gap
The relationship between the online class and students has
not yet been clarified, so it is not obvious which one is
dominant in actual systems.
5. The current study and its contribution to addressing the research
gap
Commission Students: one way to start with the e-learning
courses is to get students involved in the process. They may
have bright ideas to start with the e-learning platforms in an
institution ✓ Creative Brainstorm: Invite those who are
knowledgeable or those who have expertise in terms of
e-learning resources development, including the Management
Information Systems’ Department to brainstorm with them and
listen to all their ideas. ✓ Put e-learning in accreditation: If we
suggest that this elearning system is put in accreditation, the
effective use of e-learning resources to support and enhance the
educational experience of students will become part of the
accreditation process. According to this study by the Royal
Academy by making this a subject for explicit consideration in
the accreditation process, universities will focus on it and
improve [10].
E. Indicate the scope and delimitation of your study by specifying the
areas that will be covered by your research and choosing those that
will be excluded.
Areas that will be covered:
1. ethnograph
2. experimental research
Reason for inclusion of each item
1.Although online courses maintain the same academic requirements,
learners may feel less challenged. This phenomenon occurs due to the
advantages of online education that include academic and career
flexibility, cost savings, and less stress when scheduling courses.
2. Regarding individuals with disabilities and special education,
inclusion secures opportunities for students with disabilities to learn
alongside their non-disabled peers in general education classrooms.
Areas that will be excluded:
1. Refusal to give informed consent
2. Under age and seniors
Reason for the exclusion of each item:
1. To give privacy to students and their socmed accounts
2. Because they don't know a thing
F. Enumerate at least three agencies or organizations and groups of
people that will benefit from the results of your research. Briefly
explain how each of them will benefit from your study.
1. Students will benefit from this because it's all about them
2. Teachers also benefit from this because they can gather
strategies here
3. Parents they also benefits here because they can understand their
child just reading this study
4. Deped also benefits here because they can gather info about how
online class affect students mental health
5 Other individuals they can also benefit here if they need some
info about their own research
G. Before writing the Introduction of your research paper, reread the
given sample. Pay attention to its structural features
H. Prepare a preliminary outline for your Introduction. You may follow
the structure of the sample text given. Be sure to follow the
principles and guidelines for an effective outline.
WRITING THE INTRODUCTION
A. Make sure that you accurately paraphrase, summarize, or directly quote the
information you have borrowed from your sources. These sources should also
be cited properly.
Due to the threat of the COVID-19, many educational
institutions in Region IV-A have suspended their academic
activities and classes. All the non-teaching personnel had to stop
working and were advised by the President of the Philippines to
stay at home. COVID-19 is a disease that could easily infect the
immune system that can cause greater harm to individuals who
are infected. Many countries have declared a national emergency
just like the Philippines and the United States of America. De
Guzman and Pastor [1] opines that the COVID-19 has no positive
impact on the world most especially on academic institutions like
that of a Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) of learning. Most
of the cities around the Philippines are empty. All types of
vehicles are few. Important business establishments are open.
Conferences and meetings are strictly prohibited. Flights to and
fro are affected and they have been grounded. Some grocery
stores and drug stores are being emptied of masks, hand
sanitizers, and disinfecting medications. Students are advised to
stay home and study by their own selves. Everyone is in doubt as
to when this crisis would end [2]. There were no empirical
studies related to the E-learning Classroom as an intervention in
times of crisis, or studies related to determine the status of
E-Learning Classrooms in HEI’s; however, there are several
researches that discuss E-Learning as an effective tool or
strategy in teaching. Chua, Sibbaluca, Mack, et.al[3] suggested
using the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) as a technical tool
for promoting the process of teaching and learning. According to
them, teachers should be innovative in developing such an
analytical learning atmosphere that will best fit the needs of
today's generation of students. McHaney, Reiter, and Reychay
[4] confirm that simulation-based online when combined with
good pedagogical approaches, appropriate technology and
educational technology, and the presence of experts will provide
a better experience in simulations. Simulations could be so
motivating tool for elearning classroom. Bekmurat[5] mentions
that because computer technology and the Internet are both
boundless even a small boy has already been equipped with a
device or a cell phone. It's no surprise that new innovations have
been part of the cycle of teaching and learning. Thus, they
recommend that teachers should make use of simulations to
integrate this effectively into their teaching approaches. The
administrators, Deans, Heads, professors may work together to
come up with the best E-learning solutions as an immediate
intervention in these times of crisis. The researchers of this
study initiated a survey to find out the status of the E-Learning
Classrooms in various HEI’s in the country. To learn their status
means to provide the best alternative learning mode for the
students and faculty members and to discover the best
recommendations from them while currently experiencing the
E-learning Classrooms amidst the COVID-19.
