TEST: Use of SMCP for Routine Communication

(set-up time 3 minutes, timing: 60 min)

Routine VTS Communication


Perform a VHF communication using the prompts given. Apply as far as
practicable the IMO-SMCP including Message Markers and observe the VHF
Regulations.
MV Rostock /DROS Simland Traffic
call Simland Traffic on VHF Ch 22
ask MV Rostock/DROS what she wants
inform that you enter VTS area Simland
Traffic in the following position:bearing140°,
distance 1 nm of Buoy Key-S
- confirm and inform, that you identified
MV Rostock/DROS on your Radar
- ask what her next port is
tell Simland Traffic that your next port is
Simland
- confirm the port
- ask then length and breadth of the ship

say that the length is 217.5 m,


breadth 32.2 m
you want to know the draft of the ship

inform Simland Traffic that your draft


is 11.00 m
you need to know her last port of call

advise that this was Rotterdam

ask whether she has got dangerous goods


on board
inform that this is not the case

- tell that she needs to take a pilot for


Simland Port
- advise that she has to contact the
Pilot Station on VHF Ch 14
- confirms advice and says that she has
no more questions
- finishes the conversation
