Life since pandemic has begun was nothing but news about covid-19. Facts and data
were gathered and reported every day as part of the government’s effort in informing the
public as part of their right as citizens
Most of facts and data, even the so-called flattening the curve is due to data taken from
statistics which works hand in hand with research. Hence, this shows the importance of
research in our lives; the medicine that is being developed by most scientist is also out of
research.
In this module, you will be able to understand the concepts, theories and principles of
making a quantitative research and deepen your understanding in crafting each part to
create the whole research paper. This module aims to answer the following questions:
Let us learn all of these concepts and discover how all of these will be helpful in your
lives today, and in the future.
Content Standard: At the end of the lesson the learners will be able to how rich media
content and interactivity affects and changes the user experience in the delivery and
consumption of ICT content.

Web 2.0 is not a new version of the World Wide Web rather, it describes a new wave of web
applications that followed the dot.com bubble of 1997—2001 and began to appear around 2004.
The applications in Web 2.0 allows the users to create and share information and collaborate
with others on the web interactively. With the unique tools of Web 2.0, anyone can create and
publish their own materials which could be linked to groups of friends, colleagues, or even to a
worldwide audience that never requires any special skills from the user. Also, some features
include users being able to change the web content in some websites, keep in touch with friends,
organize meetings, and exchange news and photos.
Blogs, e-portfolios, podcasts, social bookmarking, social networks, wikis, and video sharing are
some of the popular Web 2.0 tools and services being used which continuously upgrade the
World Wide Web in this era.
Interaction
Major features of Web 2.0 include social networking sites, user-created websites, self-publishing
platforms, tagging, and social bookmarking. Users can provide the data that is on a Web 2.0 site
and exercise some control over that data. Web 2.0 tools include some of the following
features/techniques:
The social web is one of the important part of Web 2.0 which consists of a number of
online tools and platforms where people share their perspectives, opinions, thoughts, and
experiences. Web 2.0 applications tend to interact much more with the end user. As
such, the end user is not only a user of the application but also a participant by way of:
PRODCASTING
A podcast is a digital medium that consists of an episodic series of audio, digital radio, PDF, or
Pub files. Podcasting originally was derived from the word pod (which is a mobile playback
device that has an MP3 player) and casting (derived from the word broadcasting) is actually the

information (such as an Internet bookmark, digital image, or computer file). This kind of metadata
helps describe an item and allows it to be found again by browsing or searching. Tags are
generally chosen informally and personally by the item's creator or by its viewer, depending on
the system
CURATING
Content curation is the process of collecting, organizing, and displaying information relevant to a
particular topic or area of interest. Services or people that implement content curation are called
curators. Curation services can be used by businesses as well as end users.
SOCIAL BOOKMARKING
The way to store, organize, search, manage, and share collections of websites is called social
bookmarking. Metadata "tags" or keywords are used so that lists can be organized and shared
across the Internet.
In a social bookmarking system, users can save links to websites that they want to
remember or share and these bookmarks are usually in public but can be saved privately
or even add restrictions in sharing (can be shared to a specific user only).
Currently, they have added extra features such as ratings and comments on bookmarks, the
ability to import and export bookmarks from browsers, e-mailing of bookmarks, web annotation,
and groups or other social network features. Popular bookmarking sites are Delicious
(https://del.icio.us), Digg (http://digg.com), and Technorati (http://www.technorati.com).
E-PORTFOLIOS
An e-portfolio (electronic portfolio) is an electronic or digital compilation exhibiting abilities,
demonstrating achievements and growth' permitting for flexible expression (site areas to meet

can contain a variety of artefacts such as audio, graphics, video, multimedia, and text typically
maintained on the Internet.
Nowadays, e-portfolios are recognized as a valuable tool for learners, teachers, and academic
institutions. It is considered as a necessity tool on higher education and been entitled as the
"show and tell platform" of the 21st century. Also, it has been used as a student assessment on
formal education.
WIKIS
The word "wiki" is derived from Hawaiian which means fast. Wiki is basically a page or collection
of web pages designed to enable any user—private (restricted to a particular group) or public
(open to everyone) who accesses them to collaboratively build up a body of content on particular
topics of interest and modify them easily. A significant characteristic of wiki technology is the
ease with which pages can be created and updated. Generally, modifications are accepted
without any review or notification and numerous wikis are open to alteration. Many edits can be
made in real-time and appear almost instantly online. Since this can facilitate abuse of the
system, most private wiki servers require user authentication to edit pages, and sometimes even
to read them.
Wiki is commonly used in business and education because it provides intranets and knowledge
management systems and allow students to co-create documents and research topics
collaboratively, respectively. Wikipedia is the best example of wiki which is really popular for it
serves as an online encyclopedia. Similarly, there are Wiki spaces (www. wikispaces.com) used
in educational institutions that enables the users to add video clips, photos, photo albums, and
text, as well as track threads of interest in discussion forums.

Introduction
I n the past, telephone, print media, radio, television, photographs, and computer data were
treated as separate entities. In the late 20th century, innovations have led to the merging of
many new technologies such as Computer technology, Content technology, and Communication
technology—popularly known as the 3C's of technology into one product or service. Nowadays,
the impact of convergence of technology can be exemplified with mobile phones because aside
from its basic purpose of mobile telephony, the latest cellphones provide and support multiple
features like Internet and e-mail access, multimedia applications, audio and video conferencing,
map applications for finding locations, Global Positioning System (GPS), camera for recording
videos and basic computer applications (creating documents, spreadsheets, presentations, etc.).
Integration/Interaction
The word convergence simply means the union or merging of two or more things to make a new
entity. It can also be defined as the phenomena of group technologies which are developed for
one use but are being utilized in many different contexts. Convergence Of technology refers to
the interlinking of computing and other technologies such as media' content, and communication
networks that have risen as a result of evolution and popularization of the Internet, as well as
activities, products, and services in the digital space.
Convergence of technology may also be called technological convergence which can be defined
as the process by which existing technologies merge into new forms that bring together different
types of media and applications. Through convergence of technology devices can interact with a
wider array of media types.
There are three primary reasons of convergence and they can be described with the following
statements:
The rapid advancement in the field of Internet along with the emergence of various
products and services in the digital media space;
The availability of carrier technology with high bandwidth; and
The need for devices that will not only interact with media but are capable to handle a
large number of other formats.
With convergence of technology, DVD players are not only capable of playing DVDs, but can
also play different formats like music CDs, photo CDs as well as encoded video formats such as
the VCD (video compact disc). Also, it has produced devices which are designed specifically to
replace a number of different devices, examples are the smartphones and tablet PCs.
There is high demand for good-quality content that are coupled with user experiences that
standout. The following are some of the current trends to be considered.
media convergence

broadband reach
TYPES OF CONVERGENCE
The field of communication was drastically transformed by the convergence of
technologies; it has altered our traditional ways to communicate. As a result, the world has
converted into a global village, where cultures are merging and borders are diminishing. Now it is
more convenient to be in touch with our near and dear ones across the globe.
There are many types of convergence and they can be described as the following:
• Digital convergence — refers to the convergence of various types of data such as text, voice,
video, and graphics into digital form. Also, it is the ability to view the same multimedia content
from different types of devices. It is mainly driven by telecommunication, IT, Internet, and media
and entertainment industries. It is based on digital technologies and digitized content.
• Messaging convergence — refers to the grouping of services that integrates SMS with voice.
Examples of this are Voice SMS, Spin Vox, IVR, MMS, and many more. This convergence is
mainly helpful for call centers, media companies, and broadcasters. Some operators have
launched services that combine SMS with mobile instant messaging. Media Convergence — is
the concept in which old and new media intersect. It is basically the convergence of several
media channels through digitization. It brings the 3C's together (computing, communication, and
content).
Technology
Smart phones, tablets, and the Internet made it a lot easier for users to get
access to media content.
Industry
This refers, in general, to the merging of industry leaders and players that opted
to increase or diversify their interests in the market. Mergers meant more products and
services, bigger market, loads of investments as well as returns.
Social Awareness
The rise in popularity of social media sites also meant an opportunity for wider
coverage and market range through mainstream net-based communication such as
social media sites and blogging platforms.
Content convergence
Is simply defined as the portability of content which means that the content can be
mixed and matched to fit new context. It provides an opportunity for individual consumers
to interact with others on a social level and create a new experience with the help of
various media platforms.

Introduction
In this era, hundreds of millions of people use applications such as Facebook as their primary
tool to link with friends, relatives, and increasingly even businesses. As we all know, Facebook is
a prominent example of social media. As described in Lesson 2, social media is considered as
the largest area within Web 2.0 applications. Social media facilitates the practice of social
networking and is based on the premise that people are profoundly communal and have a need
to interact using voice, gesture, and written language
Integration/Interaction
2. Conversations — This block describes how users communicate with other users in a
social media setting. Many social media sites are designed primarily to facilitate
conversations among individuals and groups. These conversations happen for all sorts of
reasons. People post, tweet, blog, etc. to meet new like-minded people, to find true love,
to build their self-esteem, or to be on the cutting edge of new ideas or trending topics. Yet
others see social media as a way of making their message heard and positively impacting
humanitarian causes, environmental problems, economic issues, or political debates.
3. Sharing — It is the block that defines the way users exchange, distribute, and receive
content. The term 'social' often implies that exchanges between people are crucial. In
many cases, however, sociality is about the objects that mediate these ties between
people—the reasons why they meet online and associate with each other.
4. Presence — This block represents the range to which users can know if other users are
accessible. It includes knowing where others are, in the virtual world and/or in the real
world, and whether they are available.
5. Relationships — The block that shows how the users can be related to other users. Two
or more users have some form of association that leads them to converse, share objects
of sociality, meet up, or simply just list each other as a friend or a fan.
6. Reputation — It characterizes the scope to which users can identify the standing of
others, including themselves, in a social media setting. Reputation can have different
meanings on social media platforms but in most cases, it is a matter of trust. Because
information technologies are not yet good at determining such highly qualitative criteria,
social media sites rely on 'mechanical Turks': tools that automatically aggregate user-
generated information to determine trustworthiness.
7. Groups — It is the block that shows the range on how users can form communities and
sub-communities. The more 'social' a network becomes, the bigger the group of friends,
followers, and contacts.
Facebook - is a popular free social networking website that allows registered users to create
profiles, share ideas, upload photos and videos, send messages, and keep in touch with
friends, family, and colleagues.
Twitter - is a free microblogging service that allows registered members to broadcast short
posts called tweets. Twitter members can broadcast tweets and follow other users' tweets by
using multiple platforms and devices.
Linkedln - is a social networking site designed specifically for the business community. The
goal of the site is to allow registered members to establish and document networks of people
they know and trust professionally.
Reddit is a social news website and forum where stories are socially curated and promoted
by site members. The site is composed of hundreds of sub communities, known as
"subreddits." Each subreddit has a specific topic such as technology, politics or music. Reddit
site members, also known as, "redditors," submit content which is then voted upon by other
members. The goal is to send well-regarded stories to the top of the site's main thread page.
Pinterest - is a social curation website for sharing and categorizing images found online.
Pinterest requires brief descriptions but the main focus of the site is visual. Clicking on an
image will take you to the original source, so, for example, if you click on a picture of a pair of
shoes, you might be taken to a site where you can purchase them. An image of blueberry
pancakes might take you to the recipe; a picture of a whimsical birdhouse might take you to
the instructions.
Mobile social media refers to the combination of mobile devices and social media. This is
a group of mobile marketing applications that allow the creation and exchange of user-
generated content. Due to the fact that mobile social media run on mobile devices, they
differ from traditional social media by incorporating new factors such as the current
location of the user (location sensitivity) or the time delay between sending and receiving
messages (time sensitivity).
Space-timers (location and time sensitive) — Exchange of messages with relevance for
one specific location at one specific point in time (e.g. Facebook Places, Foursquare).
Space-locators (only location sensitive) — Exchange of messages, with relevance for one
specific location, which are tagged to a certain place and read later by others (e.g. Yelp;
Qype)
Slow-timers (neither location, nor time sensitive) — Transfer of traditional social media
applications to mobile devices (e.g. watching a YouTube video or reading a Wikipedia
entry)

Directions: Explain the following statements below about the social media. Write your
answer on your separate sheet of paper.
Introduction
The latest developments in technology has developed computers capable of
unprecedented processing speed and storage capacity like none of its predecessors. Through
this, the near-impossible integration of multiple forms of digital media in the past has become as
real as it can get. Integrated graphics, audios, and videos made users enjoy computer
interactivity like never before. All these have become staple web features of WYSIWYG
platforms.
Integration/Interaction
MULTIMEDIA ELEMENTS
There are five basic elements of a multimedia. These are text, graphics, audio,
video, and animation. These elements are being used effectively in creating rich
content in the web to provide a more satisfying online user experience.
TEXT

INTERACTIVITY
Interactivity is said to be the communication between the user and the computer
software. A web browser is a common interactive program that most people deal with
during an online session. A game is considered to be the most constant form of
interactivity because it needs continuous interaction between player and machine.
There are plenty of online games, quiz and test software’s, and courseware’s available
on the web that offers and maximizes interactivity. Most popular online games are
interactive in nature for they provide full user experience

Introduction
Uploading and sharing images and other file types over the internet can be
considered as content sharing. Using Web 2.0 in content sharing has grown
tremendously with the emergence of social media. Purposes of content sharing ranges
from promoting business to target clients, gaining recognition in particular areas, and
sharing their experiences with friends in social communities. Whatever your reason for
sharing any form of information over the Internet, it is expected that you remember to
keep your privacy settings right for your intention. Thinking twice before clicking
should be one's personal commitment to responsible netizenship.
There are many ways to upload and share images using numerous online platforms like
Facebook and Instagram. Many photo sharing sites offer photo hosting, which means
that photo on their site can be displayed on your blog or website without needing to
move them on your server. This means savings in storage space which you can allot
for other uses.
Integration/Interaction
Filipinos are among the top users of social media/photo sharing sites in the world.
According to a study conducted by the Digital Global Overview in 2016, Filipinos spent an
average 4.17 hours daily on social media. Brazil holds second place at (3.45 hours), followed by
Argentina (3.32 hours), Mexico (3.32 hours), UAE (3.24 hours), Malaysia (3.19 hours), Indonesia
(3.16 hours), Egypt (3.1 hours), Turkey (3.01 hours) and Saudi Arabia (2.55 hours).
Having this distinction, it is but wise to be very careful in choosing the site best for uploading
photos and videos.
There are several things to consider in choosing the best places to upload or share videos and
images. The following are some of them.
Storage Space — Does the photo sharing site have enough storage space for your photo
uploads?
Cost ofStorage — Does the photo sharing site charge you for storage or maintenance?
Quality -- When uploading photos quality must not be sacrificed, high resolution should
be preserved and not compressed.
Ease of use — Is the uploading process quick and easy? Does the site have editing
features?
Ease of access — Is it easy finding uploaded photos by date, tags, and other means
without any barrier?
Share ability — Can photos be easily shared to other sites such as Facebook, Instagram,
and Twitter.
Privacy — Is it must be fully controlled by the user and should be password protected.
To date, we all know that two of the most popular social networking sites are Facebook and
Instagram. These two sites boast of features that highlight their photo sharing capabilities among
others. These being so, they are also considered as photo sharing sites. To give you an
overview of different existing photo sharing sites, the proceeding section lists the different sites
and their features:
5DOPX
It is a popular social network for photographers looking to share their best photos. It
offers an image-focused design that puts your photos front and center, providing a clean and
elegant way to display your best images. Users can upload 20 photos privately per week for free
membership.
PHOTOBUCKET
This site is best for uploading and storing photos in their original sizes, editing them,
organizing them, hosting animated GIFS and printing photos on products. The free version of
Photobucket offers 2GB of space—enough for many thousands of photos, though it comes with
ads. It has a generous collection of editing tools offered through a simple, easy to-use interface
such as red-eye removal, sharpening, and cropping.
SHUTTERFLY
It offers a creative range of photo gifts, including metal prints, wooden wall art, and
battery cases for smartphones. There is also the usual lineup of personalized stationary,
crockery, blankets, and cushions, as well as kiddy-oriented products like lunch bags, puzzles,
and books customized with your little one's face throughout their pages. It has free unlimited
storage for albums which are set as private by default. Share sites though are limited to their
members.
GOOGLE+
Google rolled many of the features of its Picasa image-editing program into its Google+
photo-hosting service, which allows the user to do a lot of tweaking right in the interface. This
includes auto enhance, crops and rotations, and filters such as Vintage, which adds
a faded and scratched photo look. The Tune feature also offers a lot of power to fix
things like white balance and overexposure, with a live preview that is surprisingly fast
for an online service. It is free for unlimited photos at Google's downsized "standard"
size, which is sufficient for web sharing, or 15GB of full-size pictures (storage shared
using Google Drive and Gmail accounts). Surely, there are a lot more existing sites
available for curating, sharing, and uploading photos and videos as well. All you need
to do is to explore the World Wide Web, experience and get along with all its features
and tools, you can connect, share and learn with the numerous communities found in
those sites.
