The Researchers
ABSTRACTION
This study planned to execute a certain aim for their research, the accuracy of an
alternative corkboard made of lumber sawdust. The researchers provided questions
regarding the study, to answer the inquiries regarding the study, the questions are to be
answered after experimentation.
This study covers the use lumber wood dust to not only serve as a useless
material but as an alternative material for corkboards. Nowadays, lumber dust only
served to be swept away, the people weren’t creative thinkers to dispose and not use
the material as a substitute for different crafts. The study promotes the use of a material
found in processed woods as a corkboard. Promoting the use of lumber sawdust as an
alternative material to be used in corkboards.
CHAPTER I
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
INTRODUCTION
As much people wanted to deny, climate change is occurring every day and it
destroys the place where people live, the planet Earth. Due to the abundant
deforestation on some parts of the world, the production of oxygen got lesser.
Nowadays, people can observe the sudden changes brought by their doings, the

termination of landforms and other life supporting things such as trees. It was a very
alerting topic and the actions are yet to come, people took the opportunity to plant
millions through fund-raising, though it doesn’t change the fact that there will be illegal
loggers, cutting the trees and not replacing them back.
A wood is much more of a valuable resource, many things could be derived from
a single piece of any kind of wood, many can be seen every day and sometimes we use
them for our every day. Focusing on the crafts of the local handicrafts, woods are
processed through a cut so it can be transformed into any furniture. Though it may seem
easy to hear, the woods that were processed produce a hazard material which is called
the lumber dust.
A lumber sawdust is created when machines or tools are used to cut or shape
wood. High amounts of wood dust are produced in sawmills, and in the furniture-making,
cabinet-making, and carpentry industries. According to research, these materials can
trigger and cause cancers like paranasal sinuses and nasal cavity if exposed. It was
recommended to wear protective gear such as mask and eyewear when exposed to
works including wood carving to avoid inhaling debris from the woods and to prevent the
entrance of the debris in eyes to avoid getting the debris on lungs and cause cancer.
A cork board is a framed section of cork backed with wood or plastic. Typically, it
is used as a bulletin board, because the resilient nature of cork makes it ideal for sticking
pins and tacks into. Though a commercial corkboard is made out of cork, which is also

made out of wood. According to research it was stated that due to thickness, cork
boards possesses high thermal insulation.
Cork boards are made out of corks, which are found on beverages such as wine,
champagne, and others. It’s very efficient to reuse the cork to form it as a corkboard,
though corks are from trees called Quercus suber which are possibly logged in both
ways; cut and plant and illegal logging. Which pollutes and worsens the condition of the
planet. Derived from the idea of using wood to make a cork into a corkboard, giving
alternative materials such as materials that are considered useless but are made out of
wood, setting the lumber dust as a best example since it has a very similar texture of a
cork.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This study aims to determine the accuracy of a lumber dust as an alternative
material for corkboard.
Can lumber dust compete with cork in terms of?
Durability?
Thermal Resistance?
Effectivity?
Eco-friendliness?

What are the positive effects of using lumberdust as a material compared to a
cork?
HYPOTHESIS
For purposes answering these problems, hypothesis were formulated:
H1= Lumberdust based corkboards are comparable to cork based corkboards, in
terms of durability, thermal resistance, effectivity, and eco-friendliness.
H2= Lumberdust based corkboards aren’t comparable to cork based corkboards,
in terms of durability, thermal resistance, and effectivity.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study is conducted to determine the accuracy of lumber dust based corkboard. To
determine if it’s much better than commercial corkboards people have been using.
The following people benefits from this study:
Students, to give the very most information that may be useful one day. This
study can be set as a reference for their future researches. This research may possibly
guide them with key points, such as valuable informations.
Teachers, the study might give the teachers a little of idea to share creativity with
class and engage them with projects with crafts and all possible background key points
may play a role in terms of warning the students of the effects of the said material.
Other Researchers, this study might help them with future references. The study
may also be connected with their current study, then this study might help them to

understand or get valuable informations to add to their research. They may also look to
the references used for them to proof read and include it in their future research too.
SCOPE AND LIMITATION
This study aims to determine the accuracy of lumber dust based corkboard.
However, the study is only limited to handicrafts shop who produce much lumber dust
and craft activities, the study’s limit is at most at the experimentation process.
Nevertheless, it doesn’t come off as an alternative material for anything aside from
corkboard. This study only covers the alternative way of substituting lumber sawdust as
corkboard’s material.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
Corkboard- a lightweight, fire-resistant material made of compressed cork. Can
commonly be seen in faculties and facilities, used as a pin board for papers.
Cork- the buoyant, light brown substance obtained from the outer layer of the
bark of the cork oak. Commonly used to seal wine bottles.
Lumber sawdust- is created when machines or tools are used to cut or shape
wood. When inhaled, this material can cause diseases such as paranasal sinuses and
naval cavity and may possibly infect the lungs.
Cork oak (Quercus suber) - cork oak is an evergreen and does not drop its
leaves. The thick and knobbly dark grey bark which covers it is the portion known as
“cork.”

High-thermal insulation- is the reduction of heat transfer between objects in
thermal contact or in range of radiative influence.
CHAPTER II
METHODOLOGY
RESEARCH DESIGN (EXPERIMENTAL METHOD)
Lumber sawdust may be labelled as a hazard material when inhaled, though
through the process of experimenting, the raw material can be converted into another
material which is corkboard. Sawdust as an alternative replacement for corkboards, only
concerning to the possible effects of using cork and to provide eco-friendly ideas such
as reusing wasted lumber sawdust as an alternative for corkboards. Nevertheless,
unless not in trial for experimentation, the said material cannot be used as an alternative
material.

INSTRUMENTATION & DATA COLLECTION
Materials Needed:
Lumber sawdust
White Glue (Inflammable)
Water
Strainer
Small box cover
Prepare the materials needed for the experiment
Filter the lumber saw dust using the strainer to get
the most refined dust and put it on the box
dust
Mix the water and white glue until you get a thick
watery texture
After mixing the glue and water, mix the refined
sawdust and the water-glue mixture in the box
If it’s already mixed, press the mixture flat in the
box and dry it.

The product’s outcome was exactly what the researchers wanted to see. The
texture of the corkboard made of sawdust didn’t falter and it took the pin. The use of
lumber sawdust in corkboard was proven effective, can be compared with local and
commercial corkboards found in the marketplace. Though drying the sawdust took a lot
of time and the effectiveness vary on the time of drying it.

CHAPTER III
RESULTS & DISCUSSION
The texture was as expected by the students, it took a lot of time to dry out the
mixture, for it to come out as an exact replica of cork-based corkboard. The results were
excellent, the researchers tried to pin a thumbtacks to test the product and it did get
stuck just like the commercial and local corkboards.

CONCLUSION
The study was founded successful. Hence, using lumber sawdust could be an
alternative substitute for cork in making a corkboard. It could be eco-friendly, accurate
as a corkboard, and affordable.
RECOMMENDATION
Although the study and experimentation came to a successful outcome, The
researchers would like to address their fellow researchers to thicken mixture of glue and
water to see results faster than the time it took for the researchers to come up with a
