SHACHARIT FOR SHABBAT

. ‫שׁוֹכֵן עַד מָרוֹם וְָקדוֹשׁ שְׁמוֹ‬


Sho-chen’ ad , ma-rom’ ve-ka-dosh’ she -mo’.
He dwells forever, exalted and holy (is) name His.

‫ ַרנְּנ צִַדּיִקים בַּיי‬: ‫וְכָּתב‬


ve -ka-tuv’: ra-ne-nu’ tza-di-kim’ ba-do-nai’
and it is written: shout joyfully righteous ones for Adonai

‫ בְּפִי יְשִָׁרים‬. ‫לַיְשִָׁרים נָאוָה תְהִלָּה‬


la-y e-sha-rim’ na-va’ t e-hi-lah’. Be -fi’ ye-sha-rim’
for the upright ones is fitting prayer/praise. in mouth of upright ones

, ‫ בְִדבְֵרי צִַדּיִקים תִּתְבַָּרְך‬, ‫תִּתְהַלָּל‬


tit-ha-lal’, u-ve -div-rei’ tza-di-kim’ tit-ba-rach’,
You will be praised, and with words of righteous ones You will be blessed

, ‫בִלְשׁוֹן חֲסִיִדים תִּתְרוֹמָם‬


u-vi-le -shon’ cha-si-dim’ tit-ro-mam’,
and with tongue of those who do lovingkindness You will be exalted

. ‫בְֶקֶֿרב ְקדוֹשִׁים תִּתְַקָדּשׁ‬


u-ve-ke’-rev ke -do-shim’ tit-ka-dash’ .
and in the midst of holy ones You will be sanctified

‫בְמְַקהֲלוֹת ִרבְבוֹת עַמְָּך בֵּית יִשְָֹראֵל‬
U-ve -mak-ha -lot’ ri-ve -vot’* a-me -cha’ beit yis-ra-el’
and in assemblies of tens of thousands people Your the house of Israel

*‫ ְרבָבָה‬means “ten thousand”.

‫בְִּרינָּה יִתְפָּאַר שִׁמְָך מַלְכֵּנ‬


be-ri-nah’ yit-pa-ar’ shim-cha’ Mal-ke’-nu
with joyous song will be glorified name Your King our

‫ שֶׁכֵּן חוֹבַת כָּל‬. ‫בְּכָל דּוֹר וָדוֹר‬


be-chol’ dor va dor. She-ken’ cho-vat’ kol
in every generation and generation. which thus, so (is) duty of all

‫ לְפָנֶֿיָך יי אֱֹלהֵֿינ‬,ּּ ‫הַיְצִרים‬


ha-ye-tzu-rim’, le-fa-nei’-cha Adonai E-lo-hei’-nu
the creatures , to Presence, Face Your (before You) Adonai G-d our

‫ לְהוֹדוֹת לְהַלֵּל‬, ‫וֵאֹלהֵי אֲבוֹתֵֿינ‬


ve-lo-hei’ a-vo-tei’-nu , le -ho-dot’ le -ha-lel’ *
and G-d of fathers our to thank to praise*

*may have the connotation of praise with singing joyfully

‫לְהֵַדּר‬ ‫לְשַׁבֵּֿחַ לְפָאֵר לְרוֹמֵם‬


le-sha-be’-ach le-fa-er’ l e -ro-mem’ le-ha-der’
to praise to glorify to exalt to honor

‫לְעַלֵּה לְַקלֵּס‬ ‫לְבֵָרְך‬
le -va-rech’ le -a-leh’ u-le-ka-les’
to bless to raise up and to praise (loudly)*

*k-l-s ‫קלס‬ from a verb which means to stamp the feet

‫עַל כָּל ִדּבְֵרי שִׁירוֹת וְתִשְׁבְּחוֹת‬


al kol div-rei’ shi-rot’ ve-tish-b e-chot’
above all words of songs and praises of

. ‫ָדּוִד בֶּן יִשַׁי עַבְְדָּך מְשִׁיחֶָֿך‬


Da-vid’ ben Yi-shai’ av-de-cha’ me -shi-chei’-cha .
David son of Jesse servant Your anointed one Your

  
‫הָאֵל‬ , ‫יִשְׁתַּבַּח שִׁמְָך לָעַד מַלְכֵּֿנּ‬
Yish-ta-bach’ shim-cha’ la-ad’ Mal-ke’-nu , ha-el’
will be praised name Your to forever King our the G-d

‫בַּשָּׁמַֿיִם‬ ‫וְהַָקּדוֹשׁ‬ ‫הַמֶּֿלְֶך הַגָּדוֹל‬


ha-me’-lech ha-ga-dol’ ve-ha-ka-dosh’ ba-sha-ma’-yim
the King the great and the Holy One (Who is) in the heavens

‫נָאֶה יי אֱֹלהֵינ‬ ‫ כִּי לְָך‬. ‫בָאֶָֿרץ‬


u-va-a’-retz . Ki le-cha’ na-eh’ Adonai E-lo-hei’-nu
and in the land/earth. For to You is fitting Adonai G-d our

‫ הַלֵּל‬, ‫ שִׁיר שְׁבָחָה‬, ‫וֵאֹלהֵי אֲבוֹתֵֿינ‬
ve-lo-hei’ a-vo-tei’-nu , shir u-she -va-chah’*, ha-lel’*
and G-d of fathers our , song and praise* , praise*

*from the etymology, shevachah may be praise more with words, and hallel more with song

‫גְֻּדלָה‬ ‫ נֶֿצַח‬, ‫ עֹז מֶמְשָׁלָה‬, ‫וְזִמְָרה‬


ve -zim-rah’ , oz u-mem-sha-lah’*, ne’-tzach ge -du-lah’
and song , strength and ruling power , enduring greatness

*root m-sh-l ‫משׁל‬ to rule, reign

, ‫ ְקֻדשָּׁה מַלְכת‬, ‫ תְּהִלָּה תִפְאֶֶֿרת‬, ‫גְבָרה‬


u-ge -vu-rah’, te -hi-lah’ u-tif-e’-ret , ke -du’-shah’ u-mal-chut’,
and strength , glory and splendor holiness and kingship ,

. ‫בְָּרכוֹת וְהוָֹדאוֹת מֵעַתָּה וְעַד עוֹלָם‬


be -ra-chot’ ve -ho-da-ot’ me-a-tah’ ve -ad’ o-lam’ .
blessings and thanks from now and until eternitiy .

, ‫ אֵל מֶֿלְֶך גָּדוֹל בַּתִּשְׁבָּחוֹת‬, ‫בָרְך אַתָּה יי‬


Ba-ruch’ A-tah’ Adonai , El me’-lech ga-dol’ ba-tish-ba-chot’,
Blessed (are) You Adonai G-d King great in the praises

El ha-ho-da-ot’, A-don’ ha-nif-la-ot’
