Bar Bending Schedule

The document provides information on bar bending schedules, which describe the location, type, size, length and bending details of reinforcement bars in structural drawings. Bar bending schedules organize the rebars for each structural unit, such as beams and columns, and provide reinforcement requirements floor by floor in buildings. They are used by detailers, contractors, fabricators and inspectors. The document gives examples of calculating rebar quantities and cutting lengths for footings and beams.

BAR BENDING SCHEDULE

What does it mean?

Bar bending schedule describes the location, mark, type,

size, length and bending details of each bar or fabric in
reinforcement drawing of a structure
In short, Bar bending schedule is a way of organizing rebars
for each structural units, giving detailed reinforcement
requirements.
General Guidelines
• The bars should be grouped together for each structural unit,
e.g. beam, column, etc.
• In a building structure, the bars should be listed floor by
floor
• The form of bar and fabric schedule and the shapes of bar
used should be in accordance with BS 8666.
• It is preferable that bars should be listed in the schedule in
numerical order.
Bar Bending Schedule is used by the:

• Detailer
• Person checking the drawing
• Contractor who orders the reinforcement
• Organization responsible for fabricating the reinforcement
• Steel fixer
• Clerk of works or other inspector
• The quantity surveyor
How to do ?
1. No of bars = (length/spacing) + 1
2. Cutting length
• for 45 degrees = total length – 1(dia. of bar)(no. of bends)
• for 90 degrees = total length – 2(dia. Of bar)(no. of bends)
3. For stirrups
• 90 degrees hook
Length of strirrups = (2A + 2B) + 20 (dia.)
• 135 degrees hook
Length of strirrups = (2A + 2B) + 24 (dia.)
Examples
1. BBS of footing :
1) Length = 2000 mm
2) Width = 1500 mm
3) Thickness = 300 mm
4) Clear cover = 50 mm
5) Both bars 12 mm @ 150 mm c/c
Solution
No. of bars=[ Length / Spacing ] + 1

Effective length along X direction = 2000 – (2 X 50) = 1900 mm

Effective length along Y direction = 1500 – (2 X 50) = 1400 mm

No. of bars in X direction = (1400/150) + 1 = 11

No. of bars in Y direction = (1900/150) + 1 = 14
Cutting length of a bar along X direction =
(Effective length + bends) – bend deduction – 2(dia. Of bar)(no. of
bends)
(1900 + 2(300 - 50 – 50) – (2 X 2 X 12) = 2252 mm or 2.25 m
Cutting length of a bar along Y direction =
(Effective length + bends) – bend deduction – 2(dia. Of bar)(no. of
bends)
(1400 + 2(300 - 50 – 50) – (2 X 2 X 12) = 1752 mm or 1.752 m

Example 2. BBS of beam
Solution:

a = 200

b = 4000 + (2 x 230) – (2 x 40) = 4380

Deduction :

(2 x dia x no. of bends) = 2 x 20 x 2

Cutting Length = (2x200) + (4380) – (2 x 20 x 2) = 4700 mm

b = 4000 + (2 x 230) – (2 x 40) = 4380

No bends, hence, no deductions

Cutting Length = 4380 mm

a = 230 – (2x40) = 140

c = 375 – (2x40) = 285

Cutting Length:

(2A + 2C) + 24d = (2x 140 + 2x 285) + 24x8 =

1042 mm

No. of Stirrups: (4000/180) + 1 = 23.22 = 24
