Dear Dr. Amadi,
RE: ENGAGEMENT AS PART-TIME LECTURER.
On behalf of Africa International University, I am pleased to formalize your appointment to teach for
undergraduate & Post graduate departments BA & MA Development studies respectively in 2 nd Semester 2017 in
the following subjects:
DES 1104: Political Economy of Development and Underdevelopment.
DES 1208: Industrialization and Development.
MES 2206: Poverty and Development
MES 2107: Politics of Global Economics
As a part-time instructor, your responsibilities include:
1. Preparation of course syllabus for every subject taught, using Guidelines supplied by the HOD of your department
(Teaching Staff Handbook pp.63, 64).
2. Filing every course syllabus with the HOD and the Dean of your school, through Academic Administrative Officer
(AAO) one week after commencement of the classes.
3. Teaching all classes as scheduled.
4. Notifying the Coordinator of the Extension Division of any absences anticipated and arranging make-up classes
accordingly.
5. Attending School/Department meetings, as necessary i.e. School Academic Boards.
6. Serving as an internal examiner by setting and grading examinations as well as other appropriate assignments. In
discharging the duties of an internal examiner, submitting to the HOD and Dean of your school, through the
Administrative Officer (AO) the final exam or other forms of assessment in lieu of the exam, and a detailed marking
scheme for either form, for the purpose of pre-examination moderation.
7. Serving as an invigilator of exams according to a mutually agreed schedule issued by the Examination Officer.
8. Submitting records of students ‘grades and attendance sheet to the HOD.
For its part AIU shall remunerate you according to the current policies (81,000 /-{subject to tax deduction})
governing part-time teaching upon your fulfillment of obligations specified above.
As evidenced of your agreement with these terms, please sign below and return a copy of this letter to the DVC
Academic Affairs office.

Terms of reference
Preparation of course syllabus and the course, using Guidelines supplied by the HOD of your department
(Teaching Staff Handbook pp.63, 64).In accordance to the policies,procedures and guidelines of the Open
Distance and e-Learning department(ODeL).
Filing every course syllabus with the HOD and the Dean of your school and ODeL Department and then
uploading it into the course landing page.
Build the landing page in accordance to the guidelines provided by ODeL.
Create and upload weekly learning outcomes for all the weeks of study for the course.
Provide a variety of well researched reading materials necessary for the achievement of the weekly
learning outcomes and upload them onto the e-learning platform.
Create online learning activities that will comprehensively test the level of understanding of the students
in regard to each and every learning outcome.
Create relevant discussion forums that will promote student interactivity and creation of knowledge.
Attend all capacity building trainings offered by ODeL department as they deem necessary.
Attend departmental meetings and ODeL meetings as necessary.
For its part ,AIU shall remunerate you with Kenya Shillings 10,000/-(Ten thousand only), in accordance to the
current policy governing online course(s) development, upon fulfillment of the obligations specified above and as
certified by your Head of Department and Director of ODeL.
As evidence of your agreements with these terms, please sign below and return a copy of this letter to your HOD’s
office on or before the commencement of your duties.
