I) Define the following:


1) Cementum: The root is covered with a bone-like substance called
cementum.
2) Plaque: The layer of germs and food particles on the surface of the teeth.
3) Wisdom teeth: The last four molars that appear between the ages of 17
and 25.
4) Dentist: A dentist is a doctor who looks after our teeth.
II) Differentiate between milk teeth and permanent teeth
Milk teeth Permanent teeth
A child’s first set of teeth are milk The milk teeth are replaced by a new
teeth set of teeth called the permanent
teeth.

1) Why should we use eco-friendly tooth-brushes?
Ans. Plastic toothbrushes harm our environment and produce garbage. So, we
should use eco-friendly tooth-brushes as they have handles made of recycled
plastic, wood or bamboo.
2) How do toothpastes help us to prevent tooth decay ?
Ans. Toothpastes contain the mineral fluoride that helps to strengthen teeth
enamel and protect against decay.
3) What will happen if we do not brush our teeth properly?
Ans. If we do not brush our teeth properly, germs will grow and feed on the food
we eat. This will produce acid which will destroy the tooth enamel and form painful
cavities. Cavities will cause tooth decay and make us ill.
V) State any 4 ways to keep our teeth and gums healthy.
Ans. 1) We should brush our teeth with toothpaste early in the morning and late at
night before going to sleep.
2) We should rinse our mouth well with water after every meal.
3) We should avoid eating sticky foods that stick to our teeth.
4) We should replace our toothbrush every 3 months.
