NKF-770 TD Exchange Procedure (JLN-550Ver1 0)

This document provides procedures for replacing the transducer of a JLN-550 Doppler sonar system using a diver. It involves several steps: 1. The diver will remove the old transducer, disconnect and reconnect the cable connectors, and install the new transducer in the correct orientation. 2. On board work includes measuring the insulation resistance and capacitance of the transducer cable to check for faults or damage. The resistance between each cable element and the hull should exceed standard values. 3. The document includes diagrams of the transducer mounting and cautions the diver to be careful when disconnecting connectors to avoid damaging the cable. Completion of the work is reported to onboard staff.

JLN-550 DOPPLER SONAR MSD

NKF-770 Transducer replacement procedures by using diver

1. Preparation
Hand over the waterproofed cable to a diver.

2. DIVER WORK
a. Remove the Transducer.
b. Replace the Transducer.
c. Install the transducer. Take a picture of the status of the work result. Report the
completion of the work to the onboard worker.
!!! Caution: The direction of the transducer!!!

3. ON BOARD WORK-(BOSUN STORE/BRIGE) -------See attached separate instruction.

1. Remove putty from eight mounting bolt (M8X20)

holes.

Remove putty

2. Remove three mounting bolts and put the

threaded rods (M8, L=500mm) instead of three
bolts. Put M8 nuts and fasten until the surface of
the mounting plate to prevent falling the
mounting plate with transducer.

3. Remove the rest of five bolts (M8X20) and pull

down the mounting plate and transducer with
loosening bolts.

5. Remove Transducer;
Disconnect the cable-side connector and
transducer-side connector.
Note; Do not apply the force to the cable.
Do not hang the transducer to the cable to
avoid the disconnection.

It might be tight and difficult to

disconnect the connector of the
Mounting plate transducer from the cable,
however please be careful not to
cut it.

without gap.

8. Store the transducer in the tank and fix the mounting

plate with bolts. Keep the transducer cable round
inside the tank as indicated in the figure.

BOW MARK: Transducer Tank

9. The transducer has a direction. Adjust the BOW

MARK on the transducer to the BOW MARK on the
tank.
Install under an angle of +/-3 degrees to the
bow-stern direction.

10. After completion of storing the transducer in the

tank and fixing the mounting plate with bolts, fill the
polyester putty in the bolt holes.
Fill the polyester putty to make flat the ship’s bottom.

Fill the polyester putty in the eight bolt holes.

11. After completion of the work until step 10, confirm

the BOW MARK position and the status of the
polyester putty filling and take a picture of these
status.

12. Report the completion of work which installs the

TRANSDUCER to onboard worker.

TRANSDUCER CABLE CHECK PROCEDURES
TRANSDUCER CABLE CAPACITANCE & INSULASION RESISTANCE
The purpose of capacity measurement is to examine if the transducer cable is disconnected or
damaged to the point of affecting its functions.
*Make sure to use the Multi Mater with a capacitance measuring function (such as Sanwa
Multitester PC-5000 [Digital Multi Mater]).
The figures (Farad) in the table below correspond to the longest Transducer cable (40 meters).
There will be reduction in capacitance as the length of the cable having been made shorter.

Measuring Procedures
1. Remove the cable off the Terminal TB3 on the Signal Processor (NJC-24) and measure
capacitance. Refer to the third column “Cable+Transducer_[F]” in the table below for
the capacitance figures.
2. Compare between the figures of the four transducer elements, TD1, TD2, TD3, and TD4, and
if any of the figures stand out in difference, some problem with the cable may be suspected.
3. Capacitance decreases when the cable is being cut off halfway across. For example, 1.50nf
determined capacity means that the cable may be cut off at about 20 meters off the Signal
Processor (Again this corresponds to the 40 meter-cable).
