II. PROGRAM VISION, MISSION, GOALS

VISION

The school of Criminology aspires to produce professionally competent and morally upright graduates who will spearhead the nation in combating the crucial problems in
law enforcement and public safety.

MISSION

To equip its graduates with a comprehensive education and training program that will help them become effective and efficient law enforcers with globally competitive
knowledge, skills, abilities, values, and dispositions.

GOAL

To implement a Criminology Program with an integrated progressive approach of study, utilizing lecture, discussion, demonstration, laboratory practice, simulation,
individual learning and on-the-job training, toward the attainment of its objectives.

Course Description: The course covers an examination of the history, philosophy and objectives of imprisonment and the development of prisons. A study of institutional
agencies in the Philippines, to include BJMP which oversees city and municipal jails; provincial jails and the Bureau of Corrections and their institutions in terms of their
structures, management, standards, programs and services. A critical analysis of the laws creating these agencies to determine areas for possible improvement.

COURSE INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES:

1. Trace and summarize the historical development of penology;
2. Evaluate and analyze the concept of punishment and its purpose;
3. Recognize the role of Corrections in the Criminal Justice System;
4. Orient themselves with the handling and treating of criminal offenders;
5. Acquire a deeper understanding on the standard rules in treating prisoners set by the United Nations;

6. Explain the classification process through which the rehabilitation, program of prisoners are carried out; and
7. Recognize the legal aspect influencing the Philippine Correctional System.
