Chapter 3

This chapter outlines the research methodology used in the study. It will employ a qualitative research design and collect data through in-depth interviews with senior high school students. Participants will be assured of confidentiality and privacy. Data will be analyzed using methods of data reduction, display, conclusion drawing, and verification. The study aims to establish trustworthiness through credibility, confirmability, and transferability. As researchers, their role is to gather meaningful data through respectful interviews and analyze the data objectively without personal biases.

CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This chapter provides a detailed description of the research process.
Discussion will include the research design, data sources, data collection and
analysis, the role of the researcher, ethical considerations and the
trustworthiness of the study.
Research Design
The research will be using (blablabbla) design.(put the meaning of that
design).
(Why did you used that design)
(What is the role of the research participants in this design)
Research Participants
The proponents of this study selected the senior high students of Notre
Dame of Cotabato. The researchers decided to choose the Grade 11 and Grade
12 senior high students of NDC School Year 2018-2019, to be there
respondents of this study. The senior high students are now in the stage where
they can experience the challenges and difficulties in college. They will be
selected carefully since they are fit to become research participants of this
study.
Data Sources
The source of data will be coming from the personal answers of the
participants of this study during an in-depth interview. Some answers will be
taken from the questionnaire we will give to them. The source of data will never
include the researcher’s personal opinion, understandings and conclusions.
Data Collected
The data will be taken from the personal answers of the participants in the
interview. The duration of data collection is estimated for two weeks with the
anticipation of availability of the research respondents and the researchers.
The personal names of the students will be not be included. A pseudonym will
be given to each research participant to protect his/her identity.
Moreover, in the collecting of data of the study, we will undergo these process
namely: in-depth interview with the study-informants and note-taking.
Before we will conduct the in-depth interviews, we will make sure that
ethical considerations will be properly observed. We will give them a consent in
which they will be informed that we will be confidential or private. And if they
approve to conduct an interview with them and gaining their we will ask them
to sign our written consent to show that they agreed to interview them without
forcing them.
In the venue to where we will conduct the interview, the research
participant will be the one to choose the venue or place to where we will
conduct the interview. They will be the one to choose because the researcher
will make sure that they will be comfortable in sharing his/her personal
experiences.
During the interview, the researches will only listen to what they will
answer to our question, we will make sure that our participants will feel
comfortable in conveying their message or answers. It is also to closely
internalize what the informants would share, particularly on the details of their
mental health influenced by the academic work. The researchers of this study
will not draw conclusion on their own opinion but it will be based everything
on the data that will be described by the research participants in the interview.
The data will be collected through audio recordings of interview with the
participants in a private place in which the participants will choose.
Data analysis
The data will be analysed using a method namely: data reduction, data
display, drawing of conclusion and verification (Zhang and wildermuth, 2007).
First the data reduction, to comply this, we will manage and handle
particularly with the sorting and organizing the qualitative data, retrieving and
locating words and phrases. The researhers of this study are going to expect
that their data will be consolidated and manageable after being sorted and
categorized.
Date display, on the other hand, will be presented in a chart so that it will
be arranged in an orderly manner and will show how the data are related.
Drawing conclusion and verification will be the last step of analysing the
data. The researchers of this study will define the analysed data and assess
their outcome for the questions at hand while verification, integrally linked to
conclusion drawing, required revisiting the data as many times as necessary to
cross-check or verify these emergent conclusions ( Paul,2006).
The conceptual framework will be interpreted with reference to the related
literature on the subject in an attempt to explain, with a theory, the issue
being studied by the researchers. There will be more than one issues being
studied by the researcher. There will be more than one that will be assigned to
collect data in order to increase the reliability of the data. If the findings of the
different researchers of this study arrive at the same conclusion, then the
researchers will be confident that the result of their research will be reliable.
Ethical consideration
In conducting this research all of the participants of this study will be
provided with verbal consent and letter. The participants of this study will not
be coerced and they will participate in this study in their own will. The
researchers have decided to give the respondents privacy to avoid
discrimination. In terms of respondents identity, their personal information
will never be included especially the names of the respondents will not be
mentioned due to confidentiality of the information that they provided. The
researcher will assure that all gathered information will be kept confidential.
Trustworthiness of study
To establish the trustworthiness of the study, we are going to observe its
four components. These are the following: credibility, confirmability, and
transferability.
Credibility. To establish credibility of the study, the researchers will ensure
that diligence will be properly observed during the data collection especially
during the interviews, wherein the researchers are going to avoid drawing of
conclusions. It will all be based on actual data, directly from the participants.
We will see to it that there will be no relevant data will be excluded and no
irrelevant data will be included. The researchers will also assign one of their
research team members to do the note-taking. The researchers are going to
assign who will be their independent analyst and reader for this research. All
of the researchers of this study will read and analysed the same data and
compare it to their independent analyst with one another. Arriving at the same
findings with the independent reader and analyst will strengthen the
confidence and credibility of the study.
Confirmability. To address the confirmability of the study, the researcher
will set aside their personal opinions, assumptions and judgements in order to
guard against deformation of data. The use of audio- interviews and note-
taking they will keep throughout the study is one way of ensuring
confirmability. The researchers will conduct the study with as little
interference as possible in order to gain the true picture of the personal
experiences of the participants. The researchers will use the bracketing
approach as part of their methodology to suspend personal bias.
Transferability. To address transferability, the researcher will describe in
detail the research context and the assumptions that are central to the
research and show all data as transparent as possible. The research will make
sure that the data are accurate and full of descriptions.
Role of the researcher
The role of the researcher in qualitative research is to attempt to access the
thoughts and feelings of study participants. As a researcher, this is not an
easy task because it involves asking people to talk about things that may be
very personal to them. The researcher will take the role of gathering the data in
the verbal interviews and thoroughly examines them. Sometimes the
experiences being explored are fresh in the participant’s mind, where other
occasions relieving the past experiences may be difficult. In qualitative studies,
the role of the researcher is quite different. The researcher is considered an
instrument of data collection ( Denzin and Lincoln, 2003). Even so, the data
are being collected, a primary responsibility of the researcher is to make the
participants and their data well-guarded and safe. Conducting the interviews
properly according to the design is also important role of the researcher.
