PREFACE

Once an employee newly joins an organization, the very first

responsibility of the Human Resource Department is to impart
the necessary training to the employee to make them capable of
performing their job efficiently.

In modern phase of industry, training for existing employees is

also very important. This is done by identifying the training
needs of the employees so as to keep them in touch with the
updated technologies.

Therefore, every company must have a systematic training

program for the growth and development of existing employees.

The evaluation of training effectiveness is studied, examined

and analyzed with reference to Britannia Industries Ltd.,
Rudrapur and certain recommendations have been proposed for
the formation of an effective training program.
5

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The first step in the conducting a research is to identify

the the problems or objectives on which the researcher
has to work on. The following objectives are met in this
study:-
MAJOR OBJECTIVE
 To analyze the existing training practices, its
effectiveness and recommend measures to improve
the training practices in the organization.

employees in respect of the training activities .
 To suggest alternatives for improvement.
6

Training effectiveness is the process wherein the

mangement finds out how effective it has been in training
the employees in an organization.

 This study gives some suggestions for makinmg the

present training and development system more
effective.
 It helps to identify the shortcomings in present
training methods.
 It would help the management to identify the training
needs of the employees.
 It helps the management to know the employee’s
point of view about the training programmes through
proper feedback and make changes if necessary.

RESEARCH
METHODOLOGY
8

To conduct any type of research a scientific and

systematic method must be followed. The studies of any
kind involves gathering information, which is very
difficult task.
So inorder to make the work easier we follow certain
research methods.
Information can be collected through different sources.
 Primary Sources
 Secondary Sources

Researchers need to consider the sources on which to base

and confirm their research and findings. They have a
choice between primary data and secondary sources and
the use of both, which is termed as triangulaton, or dual
methodology.
According to Clifford Woody,
“Research comproises of defining & redifining problems,
collecting, organizing and evaluating data, making
deductions and researching to conclusions.”
9

Accordingly, the methodology used in the project is as

follows:-
 Defining the objectives of the study.

 Framing out questionnaire keeping the objectives in

mind.
 Feedback from employees through questionnaire.
 Analysis of the feedback.
 Conclusion, findings and suggestions.
Primary data is the data collected by the researcher
themselves, i.e.

1. interview
2. observation
3. action research
4. case studies
5. questionnaires
Secondary sources are data that already exists
1. Previous research
2. Official statistics
3. Mass media products
4. Government reports
5. Web information
10

SELECTION OF SAMPLE SIZE

Inorder to take a reasonable sample size and not to disturb
the functioning of the organization, a sample size of 50
employees have been taken for evaluating the
effectiveness of the present practices of training in the
company.

Accordingly, 50 operaters were selected at random from

the shop floor of both, the biscuit plant and the cake plant
of the company and the feedback forms (questionnaire)
were obtained. The data was than analysed inorder to
determine the effectiveness of the present training
practices of the company.
11

SAMPLING TECHNIQUE USED

The technique of Random Sampling has been used the
analysis of data. Random sampling is the method of
sample selection, in which every sample has an equal
opportunity of being picked up form the entire population.
12

DATA COLLECTION
For the purpose of gathering appropriate data for the
research , data was collected form both the sources.

Primary sources were :-

 Questionnaire

 Observation ( During the training period)

 Informal Interviews (while taking feedback

through questionnaires)

Secondary sources were:-

 Text Books

 Websites

 Previous Researches

 Company Profile
13

 STATISTICAL TOOLS USED

The main statistical tools used for collection and analysis
of data in this project were Graphs, Tables, Pie Charts,
Percentage.A closed questionnaire was designed and used
inorder to obtain feedback. The responses were coded in
Likert’s 5 Point Scale ranging from

STRONGLY AGREE; MODERATELY AGREE;

NEUTRAL; MODERATELY DISAGREE ;STRONGLY
DISGREE

A total of 15 questions were included in the feedback.

Since the time period of the study was less, the reliability
of the questionnaire could not be ascertained. However,
the questions were made keeping in mind the objectives
of the study and were only after the assent of my project
guide. A copy of the same is attached in the annexure.
