= standard pull
= nominal length of tape or total measured distance
= cross–sectional area of tape
= modulus of elasticity of tape

Example: The measured distance from A to B was 318 m using tape having a cross–sectional area of
0.05 cm2 has been standardized at a tension of 5.5 kg. If the modulus of elasticity E = 2.10 106 kg/cm2,
determine the pull applied if the corrected distance A to B is 318.012 m. (Answer: 9.46 kg)
