BMS College of Engineering (BMSCE) was founded in the year 1946 by Late
Sri.B.M.Sreenivasaiah, a great visionary and philanthropist and nurtured by his
illustrious son, Late Sri B.S.Narayan. BMSCE is the first private sector initiative in
Engineering Education in India. The Institution is in its 74th year of dedicated
service in the field of Engineering Education. BMSCE today offers 13 Under Graduate
& 16 Post Graduate Programs, both in conventional and emerging areas. At present,
14 Departments are recognized  as Research Centers offering PhD/MSc Engineering
by Research in Science, Engineering, Architecture and Management.

BMSCE is the first Institution in the state to be accredited with NAAC (A++) and NBA
in Tier I Format. It is a recipient of the World Bank funded TEQIP for Phases I, II and
III and is a Partner Institution of the Melton Foundation, USA which advocates
Global Citizenship. It is an Autonomous Institute (UGC approved) since 2008. The
Institution has Collaborative & Extension Activities by way of MOUs with various
Government and NGOs for fostering Academic/Research/Innovation.

Department of Mechanical Engineering is recognized as a Research Center by AICTE

and VTU. The department is adequately funded by various government agencies like
TEQIP, DST-SERB, AICTE, DRDO and AR&DB. The department has good number of
MOUs with various sectors of industry. Student Chapters of various societies like
SAE, FPSI, ISHRAE, ISAMPE etc. are actively involved in the Industry-Academia
partnership. Various training programmes have been conducted for industry
personnel. The department has three post graduate programs in Machine Design,
Manufacturing Science and Engineering and Thermal Engineering. Graduate
Program is accredited by NBA for 6 years in Tier I Format of Washington accord
from the year 2014.

This facility consists of advanced machining equipments viz., Abrasive Water Jet Cutting (AWJC)
and Wire Cut EDM. The AWJC facility, OMAX 1515 was established in the year 2015 (Designed and
Manufactured at OMAX Corporation in Kent, Washington, USA) and Wire EDM was established in
the year 2016. Currently, Non Traditional Machining is considered to be Modern Machining
Technology, which utilizes a source of energy (mechanical, electrical, thermal etc.) to remove the
target material. Major capabilities of Abrasive Water Jet and Wire EDM lies the capability to
machine hard materials with better surface finish and accuracy.
