Introduction
OH no not another tarot course. Well rest easy I promise this will not be like any
other tarot program you have studied. It will take an ordinary reading then enable
you to turn it into a powerful life changing experience.
The premise of what you are about to study is relatively simple, it is based on a
professional nine card spread, each position in the spread having relative meaning
to the life of the client or searcher. While the spread itself is deceptively
simple the readings that can be derived from it can go deeper than you might first
imagine, they can indeed be life changing,
This is why the spread, the material that goes with it are considered excellent
tools for counselling with the tarot. Ever been to a psychic, spiritualist or tarot
reader in need of real advice or solutions. Only to have the reader tell you
nothing, or give some vague answer that applies to anything or anyone. Have you
ever been that reader, wishing you could do more for your clients, actually help,
assist them in some way, create new ways for the client to see things, do things as
you help them find real solutions to life’s issues…
Have you ever wanted your clients to return not just because you are offering
guidance but because that guidance actually has value, changes lives, making a
difference? That’s what tarot reading should be about.
If you really want to make a difference, or a full career of reading the tarot then
this is the best starting place. You will no longer be giving readings, you will be
taking sessions with clients. You will create possibility, change lives,
perceptions, changing the results people get in relationships, career, and finances
along with a host of other areas. You will not be just a reader, you will be a life
counsellor, a life coach, a confidant, applying principles of psychotherapy,
psychology with other modalities that will elevate you and your work from normal to
exceptional…
Book one of the course takes you through the reading format, the basics of
counselling psychotherapy, applying this information to your readings in new ways.
This work is going to change the way you read the tarot, the way you do your
spreads, your levels of intuition, the depth you get from your readings. It will
elevate you from the casual amateur, part time reader to a professional level, even
if you never wish to become fully professional your readings will change. If you
are a professional it will leave your clients with an astounding feeling of
connection with results, they can take away with them and use.
The examples given are based on a nine card spread, however with just a little
thought the methods can be adapted to any other professional spread. The methods
enable you to bring cognitive counselling into your readings. There is no reason to
use the system verbatim, it is a guide that enables you to improve your readings
dynamically, offer good advice, helping with many of the personal issues that
client’s come to readings for. Your readings should take the following format
laying the spread, reading the position, adding the normal interpretation of the
card. Then adding numbers, colors, the higher meaning of the card. Explaining the
hidden symbols and meanings, relating these to the overall interpretation you
receive. Next you will relate this to any surrounding cards adding these to your
overall reading.
While most of the people you see will come for a standard tarot reading, not actual
counselling, the reading examples in this work are designed to elevate those
readings to a higher level. That level can often cause profound changes in the way
your client thinks, chances are many of them will want more information, this is
where it becomes a type of counselling. The advantage of Tarot Counselling is that
you can confidently offer a series of sessions, the questioner or client returns
because they are getting good advice, finding value in each of your readings.
While there is no process that will guarantee a person will change, (we know they
can, anyone can, but they have to want to) we do know that people are more likely
to evolve spiritually, emotionally and achieve their goals, when a good positive
relationship exists between them and the therapist counsellor or reader. This
places the tarot reader in a very unique position. In essence the tarot reading
offers powerful connections with the client, because of its uniqueness the Tarot
can be a tool in the helping counselor client relationship.
Here then are some key elements to observe during your readings
Listening, a tarot reader should not ask too many questions, this can arouse
suspicion, giving the feeling that you are simply feeding back the clients comments
as answers. After you have built rapport this is ok, but I would still try to avoid
it, be prepared to listen.
There are many ways to listen, it’s not just with our ears. Researchers estimate
that about 80 percent of our communication takes place non-verbally.
Try listening to the whole person, you may be amazed at what you can discover. Make
sure you are attending to the questioner orienting yourself physically to your
client, show them that you are aware of them, that they have your full, undivided
attention that you care about them as a person.
Use gentle eye contact, nodding when they tell you something leaning forward with
interest when they share something about themselves. In other words don’t be
distracted.
Always use encouraging verbalizations, some schools of thought will have you
mirroring your clients body postures while this does build rapport it is sometimes
better to adapt their language, it will put you in closer touch with them.
You should be capturing verbal and nonverbal intuitive feelings from your client,
this will deepen your understanding of the content of what is specifically said or
the depth of the questions being asked. In a sense you are listening for not only
what a person says, but also the words, expressions and patterns the person is
using, which may give you a deeper insight.
Develop empathy. Finding common ground in your experiences with the client. Empathy
is your ability to perceive another's experience then communicate that back to
them. This will clarify your understanding, amplify their own experience enabling
them to explore deeper meaning.
Empathy and sympathy are totally different, it is not the fact that you may have
had similar experiences. You should never say “Oh dear I know how you feel" it is
more about
understanding the experience. You may need to draw on your life journey, but not
relate it.
Remember the reading is not about you, it is about the client.
0ne of the best ways to do this is to paraphrase the content of what the client is
telling you, rather than just repeating it back to them. Focusing on the cognitive
part of the message using the client’s key words and ideas being communicated back
to the patient in a rephrased, or shortened form.
This does two things, it helps the client revalue the experience, adding to their
understanding of it. Often people use limiting language when expressing things that
have happen to them. Divorce, a death of a loved one, or problems with children. By
paraphrasing or feeding back to them your understanding of these events and
experiences, in different words but in their own language style you can help them
gain more insight.
For example the client expresses separation, your feedback could be along the lines
of “time to reflect”. You might best present this as a question. “Did this give you
time to reflect to reevaluate things”?
You are reflecting back to the client their feelings, possibly opening up deeper
messages and lessons about life.
As you go through the examples presented in this book you’ll see how this works.
Many of the samples create deeper understandings of our behaviors, thoughts,
emotions, and how they need to be expanded to open more of life.
Empathy rather than sympathy shows that you are paying full attention, in an
accepting supportive way. Not being judgmental. This also helps you to identify the
true meaning of the message from your client by deciding what event, situation or
person the client is talking about.
Humans often couch or cover their true feelings in talk using long descriptions
that actually have very little to do with the subject at hand, or the questions
they want answers to. The entire depth of the client’s message needs to be
elicited, to ensure you understand it in its entirety, that you don’t overlook any
significant or hidden parts.
People want feedback for their existence. Providing this in the right way will have
you working with many clients, providing a service that they will not only return
to but recommend to their friends.
By taking this approach you are not requesting specific information, not
purposively limiting the nature of the response to only yes or no, or very brief
answers. In fact questions are not needed at all if the client is already opening
up, just let them speak.
You should also wherever possible, try to have an intention or pathway for each
question you ask. This will help you avoid one of the most common errors made by
readers, counsellors and many mental health professionals. That is making
assumptions. It can be hard not to jump to conclusions while being empathic, many
psychics or clairvoyants are apt to be a little bit arrogant in this regard. Either
pressing a point about information, or the old “ I’ll leave that with you” phrase,
which in effect says “I’ve made an assumption here and rather than admit I might be
wrong I want you to go away and see if you can’t convince yourself that I’m right”
This doesn’t help anybody so avoid assuming, you’ll end up taking on the role of an
interrogator. Instead ask open-ended questions using paraphrase with reflections
encouraging the client to share more.
Doing this also shows respect, you will be communicating to the client your genuine
belief that they possesses all the inherent strength and capacity needed to create
their own life. That each person has the right to choose their own alternatives
making their own decisions. This attitude alone is a very powerful way of
interconnecting with your client. (See the example given for a flower)
Being Psychic
Being psychic is no different than anything else it takes practice. When I work in
a tool shop I am trained in three things three different jobs the fourth comes easy
then the fifth I work out all by myself.
As children we learn the rules of language we are given individual words which
later, without apparent training or instruction we manage to combine together to
create sentences.
Many books even internet sites have standard lists of things that might tell you
whether or not you are psychic. Like knowing when the phone is going to ring or
thinking of friend then that person contacts you out of the blue.
There may be a fundamental problem with this line of thinking that actually goes
some way to inhibiting your real psychic potential. Left alone these things are
great but leaving them implies that you don’t want to or don’t need to do any extra
training. That you don’t need to grow or expand that you don’t desire any advanced
level of psychic or PSI abilities.
If you’ve read more than two books on ESP or personal development then there is a
very good chance that you want to grow step out from the norm, develop your
abilities beyond potential, into something much more concrete.
This desire may be entirely personal you might not want to be the next Uri Geller
or Doris Stokes you may want nothing more than to know that what you are receiving
is fundamentally sound and not ambiguous. You may never want to amaze your friends
at parties you might want only to give correct, reassuring advice to loved ones but
advice they know they can rely on as correct. Information from a real extra sensory
source, not just glib sayings pulled from the air because it sounds appropriate at
the time. Information that is personal correct that means something to them.
Whatever your personal reason the point is and I cannot stress this enough, you
need to train and practice. That’s what this book is all about becoming a good
accurate psychic. Regardless of the tools you use be they Tarot cards tea leaves,
psychometrics, chicken entrails or pure readings this program is designed to make
you a better psychic a deeper person plus a lot more accurate in your readings.
Whether you use this knowledge for personal peace and wellbeing or want to reach
the standard of a professional psychic is irrelevant.
You will need to gather around you people, circumstances and information that lends
itself to your improvement and development. Keep away from negative or skeptical
influences. This is not a copout later we will deal with skeptics, but for the
initial part of your training try to keep positive things, ideas and thoughts
around yourself.
So what kind or type of psychic are you, there are different modes of PSI. There
are those that listen those that see, those that feel most of us seem to be subtle
combinations of one or two, the trick is to understand just what it is you do to
receive your information. Keeping in mind that all information already exists, it’s
how you tune into it that we are concerned with here.
From a mediumship or spiritualist point of view there are three main types to be
aware of, clairvoyant’s clairsentients and clairaudients. Mediums who see hear or
feel from the purely psychic will have similar ideas to telepaths, empaths or
seers. As stated though most of us either wittingly or unwittingly use combinations
of these yet seem to favor one. That’s why a seer for example may suddenly describe
an emotion expressing that a part of the body has a specific feeling or sensation
during a reading.
It is rare however that a medium will display true psionic’s or vice a versa that a
psychic will suddenly start receiving information from the spirit world. Regardless
of the claims made by a few who say they can or are doing this. We are talking
about two opposing points of view. This I why some of us have trouble with the term
psychic medium, it doesn’t make sense similar to the term or expression army
intelligence, the two words don’t go together. They in a way cancel each other out.
Yes I know I’m going to get a truck load of argument about this. There is a chance
that even you dear reader as you peruse these words are having trouble with the
concept. I wouldn’t blame you because the use of the label psychic medium is
gaining ground it is in fact becoming quite popular to label oneself as a psychic
medium.
That doesn’t make it right however crossing over from one realm to the next
delineates your power even though some of these people might be very accurate in
their readings. I think that they would find themselves being even more so if they
separated or tried to understand where the information they are receiving is coming
from. A true psychic who consciously or even sub-consciously looks to the spirit
world for answers is not doing himself or the spirit world any justice. You are
likely to become confused loosing detail flitting from one image to another very
fast like trying to read a book and watch television at the same time.
A telepath reads minds, your personal experience will tell you whether or not you
are a telepath. If telepathy is the main way you receive your information, the
detail you receive will be mainly about the persons past, what’s going on in the
present, about action or reactions, how they felt about certain things. Telepaths
who get images will be able to detail people quite well. You might for example
describe the physical appearance of a woman’s husband or partner quite accurately.
Yet get almost nothing of any significance about him as a person.
This is because the person you are reading for lacks an understanding of the person
as a person. They are not giving too much thought to that person all they have is
the picture that’s what a telepath is picking up on.
Let’s say you have a combination of natural empathic with telepathic skills, you
favor psychometry as your mode of reading. You take a personal object from the
client sensing sadness, while getting a picture of what could be the person’s
husband. Yet at the same time you feel that this person is perhaps too young or too
old to actually be the husband.
Confusion (this happens more than you think it does) you might be using the wrong
mode, psychometry might not be for you. Even though you may like it very much and
have a lot of fun with it, try adding Tarot or Rune Stones you may simply be using
the wrong tools.
Tools are an important part of the psychic or the mediums work you wouldn’t expect
a plumber to undo a pipe with a hammer. By the same token why would somebody who
communicates with spirits use a tarot deck? Perhaps it is possible the medium is
not actually a medium but a reader or strong telepath with above average intuition
and universal contact.
Tools such as tarot are primarily for universal contact readers are intuitively in
touch with the cosmic flow of knowledge but have trouble translating this knowledge
into English. Remember English is what we speak, the universe itself doesn’t speak
it.
The Greater Cosmic Mind has its own emotive language which goes beyond mere words.
In fact the universe probably doesn’t have too many words to describe itself. The
reader’s job or task is to translate that information into words that we can all
understand.
Words like love, hate, or togetherness describe states of being that are not fully
described by words alone. In fact our simple words never do such ideas justice at
all. We are extremely limited by our words and language.
So are you a universal contact reader do you have greater success when reading from
objects or systems that enable you to translate your feelings or images into words.
Perhaps you’re an emotional reader an empath. Empathic readers feel in two basic
ways, physically and emotionally. If your body begins to feel the symptoms of some
illness or disease you are feeling or mimicking conditions that are within the body
of the person you are doing the reading for. Feelings such as sadness happiness or
loneliness mean you are feeling the emotions of the client, not just sympathizing
with them by sharing their emotions.
You are able to make this prediction based on the science and observation. Your
knowledge of science tells you that influences like speed, gravity and inertia will
result in a loud bang along with a huge amount of mayhem for everybody involved.
You can observe the plainly obvious.
Astrology uses the same idea, the universe is ordered, you can’t break the cosmic
rules 1 plus 2 will always equal 3. Therefore if a certain planetary alignment is
occurring then certain events are likely to be the result. (This is a basic
description it’s all actually extremely complicated and scientific but the basic
idea is the same)
Another individual let’s say one who believes in pure PSI might use psychometric
techniques or psychic readings as their tool.
Further a psychic who prescribes to the universal concept of preordination might
favor the Tarot cards or astrology.
You couldn’t take a deck of cards turn one over then hope to tell what the card was
without at least one of those minds being aware of what the card was. Many a novice
tries this. Basically it boils down to trying to guess what the next card is. It
would be telepathy, when another person was viewing the cards with you trying to
pick up on the thoughts of that person.
Courts cards such as the king Queen or Knaves can represent individual people
within the life of your client, people from the past, present or future. They can
also represent the energies of life, as in the six energies. Some of them have
special significance, such as healing, or teaching.
When a major arcana card falls within a particular area of the spread the
significance is usually of some extra importance. You will more than likely have a
powerful message for the client.
Minor arcana cards map out the flow of changes of our daily life our feelings, our
thoughts. These dramas are gripping while they occur, but they pass with time as
new concerns take their place.
The Mind
Ever notice how one sock will disappear when you aren’t thinking about it, yet if
you think about it, keep an eye on your socks nothing happens?
Here is a new concept that you will need to get a mental handle on, something that
you will have to own as information then use applying to the way you think about
the universe and the mind.
There are volumes written about such things anecdotal evidence in the form of
stories, tall tales of people seeing or receiving information from others as a car
crashed or a ship sank below the waves.
There are problems with the idea of viewing the mind as a radio receiver, a sensing
device even a highly advanced biological one. Firstly it separates your mind from
mine, it implies some sort of gulf or space between us. That our minds are not
connected, that special techniques or considerations must be made to read or feel
each other’s thoughts.
Secondly it goes against the majority of universal occult or cosmic teachings. The
idea has always been prevalent that there is a universal mind, stuff that permeates
the universe that fills every pore every gap every place in the cosmos the universe
or even the multi-verse depending on where you stand on such things.
So if this is true why are our minds separated? The new view you will need to take
on board is that we are not radios but part of a vast computer network our minds
are all connected all of the time. Just as computers are in a network.
The idea of radio transmitters or senders has persisted for a long time. Admittedly
there were no computers around when it was developed or first used as a
description.
Computers talk to each other in things called protocols, bits of programming that
enable them to chat, sharing information. So instead of trying to receive or send
try readjusting your vocabulary alter your thinking in the way you share
information. This may change the way you attempt to perform or experiment with
telepathy psychometrics even spiritualism.
In the human mind these protocols are basically hidden from us. Perhaps evolution
has taught us that being able to read all minds all the time is a dangerous even
difficult thing that some thoughts are best left alone kept private.
Over the years I with others have made certain observations that could very well be
the protocols that enable you to read the feeling of others. One of these is what I
call the Emotional Content Protocol.
If a thought or idea has emotional content then it becomes more than a thought.
Almost everyone who was ever interested in the occult, mind powers, spirits ESP or
anything even remotely connected to these things has at one time or another sat
down with friend and said “hey let’s try it”
One person thinks of a number or draws a picture or selects a playing card, the
other person tries to receive it, draw it, or guess the card. This usually fails to
work, we give up, not pursuing the idea any further. We leave it to the more
talented like Geller, we are content to watch and be amazed.
Yet think for a moment about all the stories you’ve heard about all the times that
something akin to extra sensory feelings did work for you. Did those things or
times have emotional content for you?
Here is another important factor, lack of preparation, if I sit you down then tell
you to guess the card I’m thinking of, you are mentally preparing, you are trying
by mental force to read my mind or guess what I’m thinking. Yet when an old friend
calls that you have been wondering about, its natural you weren’t expecting it even
though that person was on your mind the last thing you were thinking of was the
phone or receiving a letter from them.
There was no predetermined mind action, no thought about how it should go or what
the results might be. It just happened without any interference from you. Basically
without thinking about it, or perhaps by not thinking about it the universe just
went on its merry way, things happened.
In short this means when you don’t worry about it psychic stuff begins to occur all
around you. As soon as you set your mind to it as soon as you try to test it, use
it or manipulate it; it begins to fade becoming ambiguous, completely untestable.
So there has to be some mind jump necessary to make all this information work for
you to improve your control over the psychic or intuitive part of your awareness.
I’ve known many people who say that synchronicity works around them all the time
that whenever they go to the city they always know where the parking spaces are or
they can feel every time the phone rings who is on the other end, yet as soon as we
try to quantify this, get a handle on it, or study it, it vanishes into thin air.
For years this annoyed the hell out of me. Supposedly powerful or extra ordinary
spiritualists or psychics when called upon to demonstrate or offer proof failed
miserably. This is when I discovered that my own awareness suffered the same fate.
You’re going to have to develop or train yourself to think about not thinking about
the results of any tests you do in this book.
The trick is to let the mind go free to do its own work without being concerned
with the results. Do this and the results will come, the hard part in all this is
that you do actually become concerned with the results you are going to keep a
diary a daily record of all the tests or experiments that you do.
You are possibly going to work with a partner who will also be concerned with
what’s going on. You will need to readjust your mind set to allow the universe to
do the work for you while you sit back as the observer recording the results,
unbiased being mentally disconnected.
Yet at the same time adding emotional content to those experiments sounds hard
doesn’t it, well it is. I think you’ll find the journey and the training exercises
well worth the effort as your personal results will improve in some cases rather
dramatically.
That’s easy to read yet hard to apply, primarily because we are dealing with
something of the mind, I’ll be asking you to apply things like wish thought,
emotional content and value appropriation. As techniques these take both physical
and mental energy to apply, so allowing them to just flow won’t be easy but with
practice you’ll certainly be able to achieve this state.
Think about how you learnt to read (I know you can read because you are reading
this) first we learn individual letters and sounds then words then sentences, now
when you read the thought process behind the skill of reading does not become
apparent the last thing you think about is the form or creation of the individual
word all you really go KNOW the word.
The primary skills are still there so if you come across a new word you can learn
it, once learned the word becomes part of the inner core of your mind you never
have to think about the word, you just know what it is.
The same applies to driving a skill that if done wrongly or done in a way that
negates or ignores the dangers of the road can get you in trouble. Yet you drive
without seeming awareness of either your driving actions or the dangers. To signal
a corner your finger flips the indicator without any conscious thought your
awareness of the road tells you just how much pressure to apply to the brake when
the car in front of you slows down. Your foot does this automatically. You don’t
have to think about it, years of training and driving experience just takes over.
This is what you will allow yourself to do once a technique is learned or a concept
grasped let go, allow it to do its work.
Value Elevation
In each of my courses I teach students the importance of adding value to their
readings.
Let’s suppose you are at home reading a book or watching TV a car pull into your
drive way you get up to investigate, see who it is, after analyzing the situation
your mind settles and forgets. What if you hear the constant slap of a ball hitting
the wall outside?
You go out look around you see someone playing hand ball against the wall you
settle back relax into the book or TV show and forget. Until you hear the sound of
breaking glass. Suddenly the sound has elevated value it becomes important.
In effect this is what you will be asking your mind to do when dealing with the
psychic or spiritual world you will be asking your inner perception to place
certain values on things that you are trying to deal with, read or understand.
The idea is to make ourselves pay more attention to what’s going on around us, as a
result elevate the awareness we have, by asking different questions, we will
hopefully find the right question
Take two pens crayons or other writing things that are exactly the same except for
the color. For example two pencils or even chalks from the same box, make sure they
are the same the only difference should be the color.
Now hold one look at it, feel it zone out to it for a few seconds saying mentally
this is red or blue or whatever color it is try to know the color on more than one
level. Try to feel it.
Now turn your back, your partner or learning buddy hands you one of the two colors
while your back is turned hiding the other. Turn around now try to guess what color
you have been given. Sounds easy because we are only dealing with two colors you
should be right at least 50 percent of the time.
Now add another pencil or crayon to the mix your partner hands you one of the three
colors, turn around once again trying to guess which color you have been handed. By
rights you should guess correctly about 33 percent of the time. Now add another
color keep adding colors until you are dealing with ten to twelve different colors.
Anything above five possible choices and you’re guessing will become just that
“guesses” you will be wrong more often than you are right unless you rethink the
question instead of asking what color is this, try asking “do I know this object”.
Remember at the beginning of this experiment or exercise we only dealt with one
individual colored object let’s assume that it was a red crayon as we added colors
we added to the difficulty of the exercise. Yet we had only left our tracing or
thoughts on the one object the red crayon it is the only one that has depth or
meaning for us, so why would we be dealing with the others.
In this exercise try to do nothing more than to separate your chosen crayon from
the others, ask do I know this object don’t ask is this red or is this blue or
green, instead ask is this my red crayon or do I know this object. Instead of
trying to determine ten objects all you are looking for is a feeling or a memory
that you know this one object out of all the others.
So if you have ten pencils you are only trying to determine which is yours. Asking
a different question not only causes you to think in a different way but also gives
you different answers. Do I know this color will give you some feeling of
recognition, no matter how small or finite that feeling seems follow it. We are
after all dealing with small minute traces left on the pencil by your intense
attention to it at the beginning of the test.
You should practice doing this with all manner of things, leave traces on any group
of similar objects trying to determine which one from the group you held.
Using a normal deck of cards or your tarot cards. Separate the cards into suits
cups, staves, pentacles and swords. Now try to determine the suits separately from
each other. Take one suit hold each card individually saying this is a cup or sword
depending on the suit you choose. Now mix the whole deck together again then while
holding them with the faces down, so that you can’t see the card, feel your way
through attempting to separate your chosen suit from all the others.
Building Intuition.
One of the main purposes of this volume is to build your psychic intuitive muscles.
Like any other muscle, the more you use it, the bigger it gets, that said some
people go to the gym, do the wrong exercises, or avoid body parts that are
uncomfortable, to train we must train properly, there are some areas of intuition
that are overlooked, or are uncomfortable for us to use, to delve deeper into.
The following exercises are designed to flex unused intuitive mind muscles
expanding the way you think, thus allowing you a more intuitive reading.
You will need someone to help you with this visualization experiment. Before
starting take a moment to clear your mind, allow yourself to see a front door, the
front door of a house, make sure that it is not one you know, such as your own
front door, just a random one that comes to mind. Take your time with this, allow a
number to appear on the door, do not rush or force it just allow it to happen.
(Refer to the triangle exercise) once a number appears write it on a piece of paper
letting no-one see it.
Now your partner or helper is asked to imagine she is walking on a dark night along
a narrow pavement alongside a long row of houses. The better you describe the event
helping your partner visualize the scene the better she will be able to imagine
permitting herself to enter into the visualization.
Be descriptive make it as real as possible, perhaps you can uses phrases such as …
“Sometimes your clothing brushes the hedgerows that front the gardens of the
houses, you now begin to walk more quickly because it has started to rain, the wind
is blowing fiercely, you can feel the cold wind on your face, your hands… perhaps
your heart races just a bit as you want to get home out of the weather
You now continue to walk. Stopping, there is a gate, a small rusty iron gate. As
you open it you feel the cold of the wrought iron on the palm of your hand, the
door creaks open you make your way up the garden path, hearing the old metallic
chink of the gate closing behind you.
As you reach the front door of this house… you now ask your training partner to
imagine a house number on the door. The number of the house.....
The experiment of course is to partly see if you can relate the number you have
previously written to your helper via psychic means, or if she is able to pick it
up.
Don’t worry too much if the number is wrong the full experiment is about
visualization, how clearly the street was experienced, did they feel cold as you
described the wind, of the night, could they hear the gate, feel it. With practice
you will discover two things, firstly that you will be able to visualize more
clearly, your partner will get better at visualizing the scene as you describe it,
secondly, after a while the number of the house will get closer and closer to the
number that you allowed to appear in your mind.
He may not be your personal spiritual guide, but pretend for the moment that he
could be, pay special attention to where he has placed his hands, are they resting
sagely in front of him, or is he holding them behind his back. Now in your
imagination have him ring the bell the same number of times as you have decided on
your piece of paper.
Now ask your helper to close their eyes. At this point ask them to enter that state
of a very vivid gentle daydream. Similar to the stage between waking and sleeping.
Once again help with the visualization by being as descriptive as you can. You
might say something to the effect of… ”Just imagine you are sitting on a stone
bench in the corner of a beautiful oriental garden. It is bright and warm there.
All the way around, there is a high stone wall, except at a spot at the far end of
the garden where there is an archway”. Ask if they see the archway?
If necessary wait for them to relax visualizing the archway. Then continue with the
exercise. ”Beside your stone bench, in the corner of the garden, there is a black
wooden post. On the post hangs a brass bell, very old, about the size of a
lampshade, with a short white rope hanging from the striker. Can you see the bell?
Good.”
Now this is the part that can get really intense, as some people have the innate
ability to make contact with, either those that have passed on, or entities that
exist somewhat outside our reality. Are these entities guides or something else…?
I’m not saying this is actually what happens here, but I have had some pretty weird
experiences with these visualizations.
So continuing with the experiment ask your training partner to look across the
garden. Through the archway comes an old Chinese monk. He is the bell ringer he is
walking slowly, very dignified, towards you and the bell. Make sure they can
visualize him as clearly as possible to Relax and see him, he is smiling, smile
back.”
Now ask “Are his hands in front of him or behind him? This may be your first clue
that you have connected with your training assistant, that somehow you are on the
same wavelength, or tuning into the same experience.
Continue… “In a moment, he will slowly ring the bell. As he does, count each slow
chime out loud. When he stops, the old bell ringer will look at you now I want you
then to open your eyes.”
All that remains now is for the amount of times the bell rings to match yours, over
time I think you may be very surprised by the outcome of this experiment.
If you don’t already have a set of Zenner cards I suggest you get some. They are a
great tool both testing and practicing your psychic intuitive skills.
The Zener cards are a deck made up of five simple symbols. There are 25 cards in a
pack, five of each design.
Simply take two sets of the
symbols, circle, wavy lines, square, star, and the cross. Give one set to your
training partner. Keep the other set yourself.
Now place a card face down on the table, your assistant places their choice on top
of yours, keep doing this until you have a level of accuracy that seems above
average.
Next place all your cards down in a row in random order, your helper places their
cards on top of yours as he or she feels they might match.
While this seems fairly basic the Zenner cards will give you a lot of opportunities
for practice.
This experiment can be done with any list of about ten words, you could use the
Bible, a dictionary or indeed any other book to select the words or create your own
list of words. The only thing is that the words you choose should have some
significance for you. Use emotionally based words, in other words they should have
some meaning.
They can be written on cards or even just called out, it doesn’t matter because all
your training partner will be doing is remembering just one of the words forgetting
the rest. From this list of words selected or called out have your helper chose one
that has meaning for them.
Because the words are emotionally charged or have some connection to your partner,
you are now going to try reading or pick up on the emotional content rather than
simply their mind.
As you do this, ask other people in the group to join in, each of them should
attempt to receive either a letter from the word or the mental state or emotional
content that might match the word or the feeling of the word.
From here the experiment can go several ways, you might ask one member of the group
to think of a letter in the word. Not the emotional substance or meaning, but just
to focus on individual letters. Not the first letter because that's too easy, not
the second because that's usually a vowel. Ask them to attempt to pick up or focus
on the third letter trying to receive that letter from the persons mind.
As a control you can ask other people in the group think of other letters at the
same time other people are asked to think of the meaning of the word. They are to
ignore any ideas about letters, try to imagine feelings or emotions coming from the
person doing the experiment.
Finally either using letters or feelings or a combination of both, you should with
practice get very close to the word chosen and remembered by your helper.
Tarot Experiment
Take your deck separating the suits of swords and wands from the deck. Have these
as a small deck, now while your training buddy sits across from you hold the cards
up one at a time concentrating on just the suit, swords or wands. Next ask your
training partner to decide if they feel that each card is a wand or a sword.
As your helper guesses place down two piles one for swords the other for wands.
Keep the cards face down until the end of the test.
After you have been through all of the cards you can turn them over, count how many
correct cards are in each pile. If you have trouble remembering which pile is which
try placing one card face up on the table as a reminder, then as your helper calls
the cards place them on the appropriate pile.
The Suits
In the most basic sense the four suits have grounded meanings of their own, this
should be your first port of call in determining the most effective translation
into meanings that help your client. After this you will want to expand those
interpretations. This will be the first step to creating more powerful readings. In
a nutshell the following applies to the suits.
Cups Are Our Emotional World Pentacles Are Our Material World Swords Represent How
We Think About Things Wands or Staves Are the Spiritual World
This of course is greatly expanded on as we learn more and delve deeper.
For example the easy to remember part will be that swords represent how we think
about things, your learning will expand this to the idea of using Logic when
thinking The suit of Swords is represented by the astrological signs of Gemini,
Libra and Aquarius. Gemini is charming, intellectual, and social a bit of a day-
dreamer. Libra represents justice, equality, honesty they tend to be in love with
the idea of love. Swords are also associated with actions or plans being held up by
conflict or struggle.
Swords
ELEMENT: Air
ELEMENTAL SPIRIT: Sylph

SEASON: Spring
months March, April May.
TIME: Sunrise
PSYCHOLOGICAL FUNCTION: Thinking
ZODIAC SIGNS: Gemini Libra Aquarius
The suit of Swords is associated with the element of Air, and with the mind. It is
the most ‘human’ therefore the most fragile of all elements. The positive qualities
of swords are fair, just, logical, reasonable and diplomatic. Swords are inventive,
positive, kindly often overly self-assured. Symbolizing our search for truth, the
battle within oneself. Swords implies continual effort. Our human need to rid
ourselves of false thinking.
Cups
ELEMENT: Water

tendency to martyrdom. Cups represent sensitivity, unity, love, pleasure. Cups
represent emotional issues, both positive and negative, family matters, love,
romance relationships. The element of Water is associated with emotions of all
kinds.
Cups involve the many-faceted nature of our emotions and feelings. Cups reveal much
of our relationships with other people. Cups may also infer a focus on ‘being’
rather than on ‘doing. A noticeably larger number of Cups in a spread may indicate
a situation involving love or can reveal a preoccupation with a certain
relationship.
Wands
ELEMENT: Fire
ELEMENTAL SPIRIT: Salamander
SEASON: Summer June, July August
TIME: Midday
PSYCHOLOGICAL FUNCTION: Intuition
ZODIAC SIGNS: Aries Leo Sagittarius
HIGHEST POWER: Vision
Depending on the fall it can also signify where the client is in those peaks and
troughs through life. Wands embodies positive qualities of artistic talent and
flair, imagination and creative ability. One of the drawbacks of Wands is a false
sense of boundaries or limitations when deciding what to take on and what to
rebuff.
Pentacles indicates a level of spirituality, you may be reading for a client who
has some inner-wisdom and knowledge of the metaphysical. Pentacles are associated
with the realization of our goals, material well-being with the rewards for hard
work. Pentacles corresponds to the Earth elements, as in down to earth, things like
worldly affairs, business issues finances and the ‘material’ world.
Associated with the Earth elements of Body and Mind. When you notice an abundance
of Pentacles in your spread this could indicate situations our issues to do with
the financial areas of life, indicating a successful outcome to whatever happens to
be on your clients mind.
Symbols
Tarot relies heavily on symbolism. The Waite rider deck makes use of every symbol
on every card. From the numbers, to colors, to astrological and numerological
connections all the way to the kabalistic influences of the cards and much more. If
you want to learn more about the symbols you might want to get a dictionary of
symbols for discerning deeper meanings from the cards. Future volumes of this
series will have a full symbol dictionary, plus each issue will contain much
information about this secret language, their uses or meanings from the cards.
Following are just a few of examples of the various symbols found in the Tarot,
this will be expanded on in later issues.
In this work I am not going to examine all of the symbols, the following
descriptions are to give you an idea of just how deep the symbols can go. I will
expand on these and other symbols in subsequent books.
Often, people ask about the greater purpose of raising consciousness. Well think
about this, a flower already knows how to be a flower, deep inside it, somewhere in
its chemical and metaphysical nature is all the information it needs to be a
flower… it begins as a seed and provided it is not blocked or hindered, it will
grow into a flower. Given water and sunlight it will prosper and grow. Take way the
sun restrict its water it will still be a flower. Perhaps not the best flower that
it could be, yet still a flower.
The same goes for us mere mortals, inside us there already exists all we need to
grow and prosper, to become the best we can be. We naturally seek happiness,
success and love. When you think about it, it is one of the few things we don’t
have to be taught how to do. Achieving these states may be another issue, but it is
within our acute nature to seek them.
Developments in science, medicine and technology make many aspects of life better,
the question is do they reliably create an ongoing experience of happiness and
love? The evidence is that even with all the benefits that modern life has to
offer, the suffering on our planet is still increasing. Therefore, if outward
conditions are improved by science, medicine and technology yet sorrow, grief and
pain still occurs, then it becomes clear that these things are outside of us, like
the flower being unable to receive its life giving water. We must realize that we
have very little control of what happens outside of us. To heal we need to seek the
inner cause of suffering, the conditioned mind.
I will use a case history here. A woman came for a standard reading, as the reading
progressed it came out that she was having relationships issues with men. She
wanted to have a loving partner and family. However, she had never had a romantic
relationship last longer than four months. As she expressed this, she began to cry
with the pain of loneliness and regret. She desperately wanted to heal this pattern
by finding the reasons why her relationships always fell apart.
The king of cups was in the social position, so intuitively I asked about her
father, she revealed that she and her father had always argued. So much so in fact
that as soon as she able, she moved from overseas in an attempt to escape the
anxiety producing interactions with him. Thus, she had not spoken with her father
for many years.
The underlying unconscious cause of the painful relationship pattern that she had
with the men in her life. May have been that her father blocked her natural growth.
She was able to review many important events through her life that involved her
father, seeing how without ever meaning to he had been distant, critical, and
perfectionistic, repeatedly putting her down.
Later as she grew, the unconscious lessons from her father sank into her psyche,
she no longer needed him to hold her back. She had learned to do it for herself.
Eventually believing that she could never please him, that she was "not good
enough." For her father (Therefore by default all men). This belief was a hidden
driver in her actions and behavior with men and her relationships with them. Making
it doubly difficult for her to have a loving relationship.
As the flower grows it can also be blocked. The natural way it is designed to grow,
prosper and in the end produce new seeds can be checked. If not blocked from the
outside, then something inside can cause the same hindering.
I this case had we interviewed the father I’m sure we would have found that he was
unaware of the damage he had caused. The client was also unaware of the connection
until numerous flowers seemed to leap out from the spread. It enable her to uncover
the associated subconscious belief that she was "unwanted by the men in her life,"
because she had been unwanted by her father, added to this was the feeling of being
"not good enough." Which means in essence “work harder to prove that you are worthy
of love”. Unfortunately we can never seem to do that part right.
The idea of working extra hard for love, constantly needing to prove herself, to
prove to herself that she was worthy had become fixed in her subconscious as a
child, this false belief had been working like a psychological law That was being
unconsciously acted out with her father as well as in other relationships with men
today.
You should not take this as be all end all of the symbolism of flowers in the
Tarot, flowers have many deeper meanings that will be discussed as we move through
the lessons. This is purely an example of how the knowledge of deeper meanings can
turn your reading into something exceptional for your clients.
His mother did her best, but keeping up with three boys and a husband who drank too
much proved very difficult. To help support the family, his mother had taken part-
time work, this kept her away from home. Then when she was at home, she often felt
exhausted becoming impatient and short with her sons. So the boys felt she was
unapproachable.
This fact reinforced his confusion and strengthened his inability to interact with
females. Thus seeds had been planted which he then passed on to his own daughter.
What became really clear during this next reading was the event of the Moon Card in
the relationships position. The correspondence was related to her father. My client
was able to see that when her father was a boy he actually feared women.
When she discovered that the beliefs: "not good enough" and "unwanted," were based
on a limited understanding, that she was instead, "feared" by her father, she was
able to transform. Realizing that she had been acting under a false belief. This
allowed her more power and a special kind of compassion born out of deeper
understanding. Her selfperception changed as her view of her father expanded. (See
the Magician in Relationships in later lessons)Tears of relief came to her eyes as
she embraced her new awareness and experienced a new-found-love for her father.
Words such as "Big and Strong" are commonly used to complement each other, so-
called big egos are actually opposed to strong ones. "The bigger they are, the
harder they fall." Or, simply put, contrasted with big egos, strong egos can take a
fall much better. When they take a hit they're much better in getting back up. They
do this with more balance, resilience and personal power,
People with strong egos are generally self-confident secure emotionally stable
flexible, adaptive, able to cope well with everyday stresses frustrations they are
seen as mature, independent, resourceful and authentic.
Whereas people with big egos tend to lack inner stability they are more easily
upset tend to be rigid, reactive, dogmatic even egocentric. Rather than truly
possessing self-confidence they feign it by being loud about things, displaying
arrogance and a narcissistic sense of entitlement. Often lacking in personal
integrity. Perhaps more revealing than anything else, whenever they feel challenged
threatened they show a surprising lack of strength, even fragility.
We all know people like this, in the case of the card falling in your spread and
you being lead intuitively toward it, it is rarely the client themselves, it is
more likely someone close to them, a partner or work college. While on the surface
this person appears confident, their actual bigness or stature is actually ego-
inflation not ego strength.
Their apparently positive Sense of Self is actually very vulnerable. Because their
self-esteem is not firmly anchored from within, sustaining their sense of self
requires constant external support. Hence the shield, it takes a lot to protect
ourselves from our own feelings of not being self-assured. When this external
support and building up of the ego through compliments and constant pats on the
back, is missing, or if they get little or no feedback for their existence, this
person will experience anxiety or depression. Sadly they will often react with
anger, blaming others for their woes, the support comes from outside, therefore the
problem must be outside, so it is not their fault when things go wrong. By taking
on this mostly unconscious defense mechanism they are trying to reinstate their
positive sense of self.
The shield however also serves a dual purpose it hides our insecurities so well
that they're hidden not only from others, but also from ourselves. Without this
mental and emotional shield, the seeming impressiveness, of a big ego might be
compared to a balloon filled with hot air, ready to burst it can suddenly and
completely deflate at the slightest prick.
Angels
Lovers / Wheel / Temperance / Judgment / Queen of Swords The word angel comes from
the Greek word Angelos which means "messengers."
Depending on the position in your spread where the angel appears the symbol can
also represent Clarity
Wisdom or sapience, this is a person’s ability to think and act using knowledge,
experience, understanding, common sense, and insight. Wisdom is considered one of
four cardinal virtues, it is the habit or personality trait of performing with the
highest degree of competence. Wisdom implies a possession of knowledge, or the
seeking of knowledge. Your client has a high understanding of people, events,
situations, with the willingness as well as the ability to apply perception,
judgement to most situations.
Like the pictograms or symbols in the cards, numbers also bear with them many
layers and levels of meaning. Perhaps far too detailed for this volume.
For example Zero O by its very shape denotes Cycles, it also represents a void.
While it has nothing in its center it is bound by the immeasurable.
In ancient cultures it was also thought of as the womb of creation, in others the
Gateway of the Divine
The number O is the beginning and ending of all things. Things by appearance come
from nothing then return to nothing, yet even nothing, emptiness needs to be
contained in…something. Perhaps that something is energy, a force we can’t see,
touch or sense yet we see its results all around us. In occult numerology Zero
represents thought energy, energy that moves in cycles as the container of the void
from which lifecycles begins anew.
In the Tarot the Fool carries the zero it is the first of the Major Arcana cards.
Representing the starting point of conception, be that the creation of something
new, or a new starting point a new beginning, this could be anything from a new
business, new job, new school to a new relationship keeping in mind that the old
one has to have ended, it must have reached the end of its cycle for the new one to
begin. This can hold people up, not letting the cycle flow can delay the start of
the adventure, the new lease on life.
One
In the Tarot the Magician is the number one. A single unit. The images associated
with the Magician show that he has all the tools, knowledge and ability to
effectively craft almost anything from the universe, because he has an innate
understanding of the laws that govern all of creation.
As a unit alone the number one represents composure and certainty in one’s own
power. Depending on the area the card falls, we can add to our reading that there
is at least one area of life where the client has achieved a state of control they
may be so in control here that things appear to occur by magic or strange powerful
coincidences keep occurring.
Later as we examine the card more fully you may also find that your client is
deeply interested in the arcane, gathering mystical knowledge they may have an
interest in the applications of magick. As we are dealing here with the number not
the card however … the unit “One” will also remind us of Kether or the First Sphere
on the kabalistic Tree of Life. The number 1 is not only a place of individuality,
it is also a foundation from which the potential to create exists, it is the
beginning a place after choices have been made, things and tools gathered.
The next question is, do I take that action, I have everything I need, I have made
the decision to gather all that, but now, do I actually start. Do I do it? I may
choose to stay alone, or take no action or I can choose to create, to take that
first step, to do the ONE thing needed to begin.
Two
The High Priestess is card number two in the tarot, as she sits in the Temple of
the Moon she represents Cooperative energy. A stage where the client has moved
beyond the “I” to “we”. The number Two (2) speaks to us of duality, of
collaborative effort, of the polarization that can form when individuals work in
pair or teams. Depending on where the card falls it could mean that the
polarization has become an issue or a problem for the person you are reading for.
For example the High Priestess falls in position five, the self and career. In this
case depending on the rest of the cards nearby, the card can represent the opposing
force of the number two. Humans tend to become very disjointed in relationships,
after the honeymoon period has worn off, we tend to look again at the “I” it seems
that our partner opposes just about everything we do. If you are stable your
partner will seem disjointed, you want to save money for the future they will spend
recklessly. You want to create a home and family, they will want to party on. The
same applies to business, you may be a risk taker wanting to expand to new
frontiers, while they try to remain safe avoiding risk.
However in another example the High Priestess falls in relationships. Here two is
bonding to another, two ones joining, becoming more powerful as a couple or a
combined force … Here the client appears to have moved from a place of the singular
to interaction, by joining with another, the right person that is, and life will
grow. In this subtle dance of relationships, the client will learn to develop
kindness, concern, harmony and balance.
Three
The Empress is the Mother of all life. Alone she contemplates the landscape of her
domain. She represents not only sexual energy but the promised of things to come
from union. The individual joins with another creating the energy of two, if
directed this creates a third entity. Two people of similar minds create a
flourishing business, a couple creates a child. A teacher with the right student
creates new knowledge.
Wherever a three falls in your spread the card offers a vision of possibilities.
Things that will grow bearing fruit from the unions we form in our lives.
Four
Being stuck. As humans it is easy to get stuck in a situation, we forget that all
things change. Four reminds us that all things are changing, moving from one state
to the next as in the four seasons, or in the four elements In fact no matter how
bad things may seem you may actually have a solid base upon which to build from
those changes. Four also represents the 4th dimension time which is the main
catalyst for change. In other words no matter how bad things seem, give it time,
and by the very nature of the universe it will change. Four is seen as the first
solid number.
Five
The five pointed star depicts individuality spiritual aspiration, when it points
upward it represents education. When pointing downward it represents witchcraft,
five is often used in black magic. Keeping in mind that there is a profound
difference between witchcraft and black magic.
Five is the symbol of human microcosm. The number of the human being. The pentagon
the human form with arms and legs stretched out. The pentacle, like the circle
symbolizes the whole, reflecting the symbolism of precision found in the circle.
Five is a circular number as it produces itself in its last digit when raised to
its own power. The quincunx being the number of its center. The meeting point of
heaven, earth, and the four cardinal points plus the center point.
Six
Six represents equilibrium, union and polarity it is considered in many occult
teachings as the perfect number:
1+2+3=6
Six is the most productive of all numbers, symbolizing, harmony and balance.
Pointing upward as male, fire and the heavens, while pointing downward represents
female essence or energy. Six is the symbol of luck love health beauty chance. In
Western culture six is a winning number at the throw of the dice. Hence the
expression luck be is lady.
There are six rays of the solar wheel there are six interlaced triangles. There are
six pointed stars or Seal of Solomon and the Star of David
Seven
There are seven ages of man, ancient wonders of the world, circles of Universe,
cosmic stages, seven days of the week, seven heavens, seven hells, pillars of
wisdom, rays of the sun and seven musical notes. Seven is the number of the
Universe. It is the three of the heavens (soul) combined with the four (body) of
the earth being the first number containing both the spiritual and the temporal. In
looking over the list of meanings it doesn't take long to figure out why the seven
has become significant in metaphysical, religious and other spiritual doctrines
Eight
Eight represents cohesion, as the first cube it signifies perfection by virtue of
its six surfaces. There are eight winds and directions of space. Eight represents
the pairs of opposites. The octagon is the beginning of the transformation of the
square into a circle and vice versa.
Nine
Nine is symbolized by two triangles which are symbols for male, fire, mountain,
female and water.
Nine means Completion, fulfillment, attainment, beginning and the end; the whole
number; a celestial and angelic number - the Earthly Paradise.
Ten
Ten contains all numbers and therefore all things and possibilities. It is the
number of the cosmos the paradigm of creation. Ten representing law, order,
dominion the uncountable, symbolizing the whole of manifestation. Ten is also the
number of completion of journeys and returns to origins.
To be continued…
You should not take this as be all end all of the symbolism of numbers within the
Tarot, numbers have many deeper meanings that will be discussed as we move through
the lessons. This is purely an example of how the knowledge of deeper meanings can
turn your reading into something exceptional for your clients.
There are many places in this book that will show you how to aid your client in
making those discoveries, numerology is one of them, if you don’t already know how
to draw a life path number I recommend that you find out, or use the numerology
sections of this course to learn them.
Our primary Life Paths correspond with numbers 1 through 9. Zero being thought of
as the god principle, the divine, or the collective unconscious of the universe and
all that is within it.
Each of the nine primary numbers represents a fundamental nature. The nine
emanations represent the nine primary life purposes. Revealing your life purpose
with the lessons you need to learn in order to progress closer to that which will
most fulfill you bringing your life true meaning. This first step to a numerology
analysis is to determine which one of the nine primary Emanations your Nature
begins with.
Your Life Path number is calculated by taking the sum of the digits of your date of
birth then reducing it to a single digit.
Take for example Mary, who was born on December 26, 1978. To calculate her life
path number, take the sums of the month, the day, and the year, if a sum is 10 or
greater, add the digits again until you reach a single digit:
In the first example Mary’s ultimate Life number is nine. To add another element to
your readings you might want to work this out having it ready as part of your
overall reading.
This Life Path number represents her inborn capabilities and weaknesses, she will
have enough information to begin exercising the positive aspects enabling her to
deal with the weaknesses thus she can hopefully begin her journey of growth.
For example Mary wants to start her own business, Mary already has all the skills
she needs, in fact she may even be expert at what she does, yet her primary
weaknesses may be that she lacks belief in herself not realizing her own abilities.
There are other things that can be learned from this same list of numbers and
calculations made along the way, but for now we will explore in more detail each of
the nine Life Path Numbers, these are only excerpts. For more complete details of
Life Path Numbers please see later volumes of the series, or you might consider
doing some more reading on the science of numerology.
Life Number 1
Those with Life Path One are said to be born leaders. However while born with all
the characteristic traits it would take to become a leader, they are also born with
an equally compelling predisposition toward introversion. Of all the life paths,
the person with Life Path One is the least predictable. Prone to take every fork in
the road that leads as far away as possible from any position of leadership, power,
or public attention. Usually forming two very different and distinct life paths.
The path this individual takes will become visible by looking more closely at their
lives, the choices they have made in the past. Understanding of how each choice has
resulted in some outcome. Those who do not manifest the destiny of the leader tend
to lead very difficult lives filled with obstacles and hardship.
Early childhood events and actions can determine how effectively an individual will
follow the pathway to leadership, for example were they the school monitor or the
captain of the softball team. Keeping in mind that there are several types of
leader’s chief among them is the conqueror as opposed to the protector. Or did they
do neither becoming recluse, introverted, often quiet, pensive, soft-spoken, and
reserved.
Life Number 2
The peacemaker. A powerful mediator, self-restraint is one of this individuals
strongest characteristics. They will be able to find balance and harmony in most
situations, no matter how impossible a resolution might seem to others. A natural
born diplomat who would do well in ambassadorships. Counseling, mediation, the
medical profession, social work, or careers in music. That said they should avoid
types of competitive work, work that requires earning commissions or careers of in
things like advertising or selling and they will be absolute crap at door to door
or phone sales.
They will be quick to lend a hand when friends need help. Are eager to pitch in
doing what they can in any situation. Never hesitating to do good deeds.
However that’s great for others, when it comes to themselves they dislike conflict
or confrontational situations. In these situations they can have a tendency to be
indecisive or hesitant. This is the crux of all obstacles in life, hesitating. In
that time of hesitation, opportunities have sailed away. Often they also have a
tendency to withhold their ideas or opinions in group settings. They hold back from
contributing their thoughts and opinions, more likely to sit back listening while
others debate the matter. The challenge is to learn to speak up, voice what they
have to say, because given the chance they can be incredibly persuasive, these
people can create balance in almost all situations.
Life Number 3
The creator. Threes possess strong skills in writing, oration, and expression. They
tend to be very articulate their greatest inborn talent being the use of words and
language. Born communicators and creators, so any career path that capitalizes on
this extraordinary writing talent or communication skills will be aligned with
their achievements in life.
That said three’s also tend to cycle through many different occupational changes
before finally taking on the one for them. They believe they have to work much
harder than other people to reach their personal best. It’s harder for them to get
to the top because, primarily because they can have so many different interests,
wanting to pursue them all. Secondly they undervalue themselves, spending much of
their time trying to be helpful to other people, attempting to prove to themselves
that they have value and worth.
Life Number 4
Foundations and planning are the beginning of all things, fours are natural born
planners, builders the worker bee. The architects of creation, though not always in
a literal sense but in the sense that they contribute to the design of our society.
Also very good at designing their own life, most likely someone who believes that
we each govern our own fate through free will, autonomy over destiny. Their highest
attribute this innate ability to chart the milestones of a plan to see the steps
needed to go from objectives to goals.
Some may say they are overly cautious, but they are able to build life step by
step, stone by stone, stage by stage, someone who has a clear understanding of
every phase needed to accomplish life’s objectives. As such they have amazing focus
being fueled by an inner, self-determining engine. Which makes them pragmatic,
tenacious, and more prone to achievement.
This detail-oriented, aspect of their nature makes them well suited for private
enterprise or executive positions. Having identified the goal, they strive toward
it with singular unshakeable determination.
Life Number 5
Fives have a restless soul they are seekers. Progressive, nonconformist, needing
the freedom to explore. They are openminded, tolerant, being receptive to new
ideas, diverse, or dissenting views, even excited by them. Thus they are often
found in careers involving social justice, where they can explore push boundaries,
helping groups to seek change it is they who challenge the status quo.
You will also find fives in positions of advocacy, publishing, in legislature, or
political service. Due to a natural gift for political analysis or organizing large
groups,
Fives tend to have high business entrepreneurial skills, though they can be far too
frivolous or unfocused to truly succeed at their own business often they will fail
to bring in alliances from those who are more money-oriented. They are rarely
motivated by money or financial rewards, so very few fives achieve financial
wealth. That said however, they do have a proclivity for achieving great
recognition and attention for what they do.
Those of Life Path five tend to live for the moment sometimes forgetting to save
for tomorrow. If career doesn’t make them happy, they can grow disinterested very
quickly. Prospects of money or security are simply not engaging enough. They want
and need more than the mundane to truly feel rewarded. Often spending their lives
trying to find out what that “more” is for them. They will have a tendency to go to
extremes throughout life, possibly the hardest lesson they will learn is to find
balance.
Life Number 6
Those who calculate out to a six possess a strong innate moral compass naturally
gravitating toward faith with inner conviction. It is they who are the
traditionalist. Born nurturers. Even becoming the moral compass for others. Six’s
have a very magnetic personality attracting others to them easily. People feel the
warming compassion of their aura even before they enter a room.
They have a gift for easing others making them feel safe and secure. They work
through crisis well able to guide others through crisis. While they do seek the
spotlight or need to be the leader, when tragedy hits, it will be the number six
person who steps forward leading others to safety they will provide a sense of
calm. Having a sincere concern for the weak and the downtrodden, they can be the
shoulder that people cry on, a sympathetic ear to souls in need.
As always there is a downside to this without self-discipline they might lack the
personal tools necessary to truly be helpful to others. Many six’s have to learn to
focus on themselves just a little more, so that they are in the best position
possible to help others. Learn to help yourself before you help others.
Life Number 7
Seven’s tend to be analytical, they enjoy philosophy and philosophical discussions.
They are born thinkers. Being particularly observant they are highly perceptive to
their surroundings as they mature they come to a deeper
understanding of human nature than others. People who calculate out to seven often
spend a lot of time seeking various forms of higher knowledge.
They are most inquisitive when it comes to self-education, ideas, and philosophy.
They exhibit an innate sense that there is more to this world than what is
perceived by the physical senses they are thinkers, seekers of truth and wisdom.
However they tend to development wisdom, full control of their physical, emotional,
mental, and spiritual faculties in the later stages of life. Because they tend to
be highly respected in society, they can be overly perfectionist, not only holding
themselves to unattainably high standards, but also hold those around them. This
can make them appear detached, cold, or too rigid.
Life Number 8
Eight does not like drama, nonetheless their lives play out like television
productions. Both a visionary and a risktaker. Following their own decisions rarely
taking into consideration what others advise. They can be reckless, becoming
single-mindedly even obsessed with achieving a particular goal.
For such individuals stability is often a contentious issue. Depending on the other
numerological factors, they will be either incredibly stable, secure, or
resourceful, or conversely they go in the opposite direction having to constantly
battle with attaining a sense of stability.
Life Number 9
The humanitarian. Devoting a great deal of their energy to the greater good. They
sacrifice their money, time, and energy for a better world. Nines take one of two
possible paths in life, that of the artist or that of the healer.
The artist is imaginative, creative, with a strong sense for innovating beauty,
able to define beauty, to restore beauty to things once gone. The healer is
generous, selfless, being socially conscious. Both paths are philanthropic, deeply
compassionate. Nines will have a strong concern for equality, and the welfare of
others.
Nines tend to have friends from all walks of life and diverse backgrounds. Being a
hub for differences to converge becoming one. Open-minded, progressive. Welcoming
of all peoples and cultures. They are less likely than the other life paths to be
prejudiced not accepting social biases.
Now ask the client to divide the deck into three piles anyway they wish. Either by
cutting three piles or dealing the cards down one at a time. It doesn’t matter how
the three piles are achieved as long as you have three roughly equal stacks of
cards.
Ask the client to place them back into one pile in any
Now deal the cards face down, from the top of the deck onto the table in a three by
three formation, dealing out 1 2 3 4 6 7 8 lastly 5
Dealing the final card (position 5) placing it in the center of the spread, deal
this last card face up. The last card (dealt in position five) represents the
client, or something about them. With their life being spread out around them.
After shuffling or mixing the cards and returning them to a single pile you have
placed nine cards on the table, in a three by three pattern eight of them are face
down, the center card is face up, to begin your reading turn over the first card
the travel position.
The following sections deal with the magician card falling in the prime positions.
Prime positions are not to be confused with the reading as a whole. Once you have
the prime positions we add levels and other cards to complete the reading.
Once the layout is complete you will be reading at various stages. Each level
adding new and deeper meaning to the reading. Stage one is the individual cards as
the fall in the prime positions, as you turn each card over you reveal the basic
meaning of that card in that position describing its relationship to that area of
the clients life. For example the three of gups falling in travel, you describe
it , turn over the card in position two health, describe what you see adding
intuitive meaning, then turn over card three, education, and so on till you have
all nine cards turned over having given a brief yet somewhat detailed reading.
As you progress through stage one you will pick up on certain things, numbers that
reoccur, colors that seem prominent or your intuition will see connections you will
develop a feeling for a direction to head in. all these will be part of your
reading in later stages.
Stage two we read the pairs that fall in the spread. A pair will be any two cards
that are touching in the spread, they do not have to be the same number, suit or
similar in anyway (although this will have significance later) two cards that are
connected in any direction form a pair
In any spread of more than two cards you are going to have a full reading based
simply on your intuition.
Triangles
Stage three is to expand the connections to any three cards that touch. These are
known as triangles.
With triangles we are reading a group of cards or the symbols within the group, how
they are connected to each other.
For example depending on what appears or falls in the travel position there may be
an effect on either the health positions the social positions or in some cases
both.
The need to travel overseas or away may affect other people in the client’s life.
Or our growth as a person will have an effect on our health.
Let’s say the cards fall as above when reading the triangle, I may assume that the
clients journey through life is about to change or reach some sort of peak, due to
the fact that the fool has appeared here I can tell from the Eight Of Wands that
there are some physical barriers to overcome before this can be achieved and that
these changes will almost certainly have some effect on an important female such as
a mother or older sister or older female friend.
Squares
Finally for this stage you will now examine the fall of the cards in squares or any
four connected cards within the spread. Just as with pairs threes (triangles) you
will read the cards as if only four had been placed on the table, yet you will do
this with all the squares. There are four squares in the nine card spread that can
be read separately
In the nine card spread the first seven cards deal with those areas, the cards that
fall in those positions can be very helpful in determining what’s going on in the
client’s life.
Another way of thinking about this is to assume that as humans moving through life
there are seven areas of concern that we are most apt to ask questions about. At
times we want to know about relationships, at others times we want to know what the
future holds with our careers, we become concerned about money or material
possessions at one stage of life and later we tend to let that go.
We will first deal with the cards individually as they fall in each of the
positions, keeping mind that this section deals only with the magician, as there is
only one magician in a deck of tarot the meaning will be individual to the position
it falls and to the client. Your intuition is going to play a big part in
determining the direction or flow of your reading.
Now let’s examine the individual card placements within the spread with discussion
on what those positions refer to.
Travel
We travel in several different ways, we travel via different methods throughout our
lives. We can pack our bags and go on holiday. We travel through the various stages
of life. We grow through learning and education. In short each of us travels
through our lives, in fact it is this movement that lets us know that we are alive.
Things that are alive generally tend to move in some way.
For example: The magician falling here can denote several things, firstly that
there is some barrier to movement or travel, or that things are going well. It will
depend on what other cards come out and where your intuition leads you, we can for
example move location or house, change areas, change jobs even change families in
today’s society. Whatever it is, the magician denotes something unknown or a
possible a lack of resources.
Health
There just as are many ways to be unhealthy, as there are ways to be healthy, this
area deals with your client’s spiritual mental, emotional health as well as the
physical.
Education
By default when we think of education we think of learning, however this area
(position three in the nine card spread) deals with teaching as well. As we move
through life not only do we learn we are also called upon to teach, to pass on the
lessons we have learned to others such as children and others who may be in need of
guidance.
Interpersonal Relationships
We are each the product of our environment, our family and the people closet to us.
Position four deals with all areas of our interpersonal lives, partners children,
siblings, how we are effected by them and how we affect them.
Social life
Whatever we do in life involves other people to some degree. This placement deals
with everyone outside the immediate family, work school casual relationships such
as friends.
Money
Unfortunately we live in a world ruled by money, it controls and interacts with
almost every aspect of our lives. Did you know that most relationship break ups
involve money? We always worry about it. We never seem to have enough. Our beliefs
about money reflect strongly on our beliefs about ourselves.
These details can be applied to any spread that you chose, I’m sure you already
have your favorite or a standard that you use, so we will now examine each of the
areas money, health, dreams etc. With different cards as examples you will see how
the meanings and messages from the cards expand.
There is no pat format for this, your intuition will guide you, just relax, read
along enjoy the journey.
For simplicity reasons each of the following examples deals only with the magician
as it falls in various positions or in combination with other cards in the spread.
Example One The Magician Falls In Position Five The Clients Card. Personal Energies
There are six basic energies that we need to both express and fulfil in our lives
if we are to be complete humans. If these energies are not directed in the right
way, they will find a way to reach fulfilment. Often this is redirected into areas
that are negative unhealthy even wistful. An example might be the gambler who only
gambles when he feels that he has no control in his life, at home he is emasculated
at work he has no control. In fact for most of his life he feels a lack of control.
However when he is at the casino or sitting in front of a poker machine, he feels
as wrong as it may be, that he at least has control here. That he gets to push
the button, he chooses the numbers that will
determine his fate win or lose, he feels as
if he has some control over the events. This
of course is just a feeling. It conflicts
with reality, in some cases, such as
addiction it can end up being destructive or
life destroying. Yet he feels or has a sense
of control.
Another common example is the male or female,
who moves from one promiscuous sexual
situation to the next,, the need for
connection drives them from one bad or
dangerous situation to another then another,
Energies or drivers are not like motivations, we might be motivated to make money,
yet driven by a fear of being poor or finding ourselves destitute, or driven by our
fathers words, don’t be lazy son… these six energies might be better thought of as
drivers.
You will not be motivated by them, yet without them you may be driven to act
behaving in ways that are not beneficial to your life coals. Here is another
important consideration, as you begin to find balance these energies begin to work
for you rather than against you. A very interesting side effect often occurs, you
find purpose. Many clients tell me that they know they have a purpose in life. They
just can’t see what that purpose is. Bring balance to these six basic human needs
or energies will help you to clarify and discover your purpose, discover what it is
that the universe has in store for you... The human psyche is designed in such a
way that if our fundamental needs are not met we will find something that fills the
gap, that something will be the nearest thing to the needed feeling that we can
find.
Example Two The Magician Falls in Position Four Social Life The Energy of
Connection
We all need to belong somewhere, Love is the need for
connection with other people the desire to love and be loved. Everybody needs to be
able to express love, to both give and receive love, be it from friend’s family or
spouses. Without it we will seek it in all the wrong places.
This may be a fundamental reason behind the popularity of some cults or religious
movements as they seem to offer love with connection (in the initial stages anyway)
many disconnected young males find themselves being drawn toward street gangs in an
effort to belong, while many young girls will make life changing mistakes just to
belong, To gain that
Example Three The Magician Falls in Position Three Education Energy to Grow
Ever wonder why older people go back to school. We have an
We develop emotionally with each life experience that we have; we develop and grow
intellectually every day with each exposure to new knowledge practically; we all
aspire spiritually as we contemplate the universe around us and our place in that
universe. If
we don’t grow we can become stagnant. We have a feeling of being blocked or held
back. Then we will tend to try to find that feeling, fulfil that need. As with the
other energies we will through lack of knowledge fill that void with the wrong
things, with anything that doesn’t make us feel stagnant. To be complete we need to
be constantly moving learning and changing we need growth.
Example Four The Magician Falls in Position Six Social Relationships Energy through
Significance
Personal power and energy through significance is the need to feel important,
needed, wanted, to have a place in the world importantly for that place to be
worthwhile.
Our sense of significance is most often validated by comparing ourselves, our
accomplishments or failures to somebody else. We need personal pride in what we
have achieved, that pride is usually based on some evaluation by other people. Did
you know one of the biggest causes of feeling rejected, is actually a lack of
feeling significant or needed that you are worthwhile, that you don’t reach someone
else’s standards. It is this need to feel significant that drives us to be
competitive, to improve our performance at work it is also a major clue with people
who
are perfectionists. Those who feel they can never achieve enough. What’s really
driving them is the need to feel of value or significant.
Example Five The Magician Falls In Position One Travel Energy of Certainty Variety
and Uncertainty
Just as we need to grow we need a definite amount of certainty
Without this stimulus we can often feel an undefined vague sense of fear, not
knowing what tomorrow may bring is negative
Example Six Relationships The Magician Is The Sixth Card Down. Energy in
Contribution
Each of us, whether we admit it or not need to go beyond the
narrow scope of our own needs giving freely to others without expectation of reward
or compensation.
I will often see people look vaguely into space wondering what they are
contributing to the world at large or indeed to their own small part of the world.
What is the world at large contributing to your life, what are you contributing to
the world?
Many people feel the need to donate to charities, or involve themselves in other
work to fulfil this need. This energy is what makes our life meaningful, there is a
sense of
meaningless without it that (in extreme cases has led to suicide) will have us
aimlessly wandering around looking for something to do, or directing that meaning
into the wrong areas, a good example of this is somebody who has a really
misinformed view about what money is and how it works, they will draw meaning of
life from money, not what that money enables them to contribute. Do you feel you
are making a difference are you giving back? If not, have a look at the
contributions you are making.
Example Seven Money The Magician Is The Seventh Card Down. Creative Energy
As humans we need to be creative, it is a fundamental part of
almost straight away, while creativity lasts, if we create something from a macramé
hanging thingy, to writing a book or painting a picture we receive a feeling of
both worth and satisfaction.
We are involved in the process of creation; it takes time, dedication with focus to
create anything. Even drawing a sketch on a piece of paper takes more of your
mental processing faculties, than going out to find various forms of instant
gratification, even if at the time it seems like your putting in effort, you should
consider the results and the outcome of what you are achieving.
Individual Placements
Hopefully the above examples have given you some cause for exploration into the
layout with the depth that can be reached in the spread. It is now time to examine
other cards as they fall in various positions.
Each of the following are random samples only, at this stage they are not presented
in any order. They represent the most basic of meanings or interpretations. To be
expanded upon in later lessons.
Many of the following examples will also contain more information about the cards
as well as the readings so read each carefully.
As a general rule the suits will have the following meanings. Cups are our
emotional world
Swords are our mental world
Pentacles represent our material world
With staffs being the spiritual or metaphysical world
The Magician in Travel. Do You Really Know What You Want? Ever Had That Feeling You
Were Destined For Greater Things but Just Can’t See What Those Greater Things Are
The Magician by itself here is concerned with the individual making higher use of
one's power. Spiritual, emotional, or otherwise. Often signifying new beginnings,
getting ready for the journey, making a move toward better things. Movement
(travel) by its very nature implies that some change is afoot. There will be a
sense of expectation even hope about the future, what that this change will bring.
We have the power to make a difference, in our lives as well as the greater world,
if we simply make a point to allow those changes to happen.
The message here is… Sadly you already have the tools not to be sad, we shouldn’t
be so quick to give power to something that causes us pain… in all honesty you may
be experiencing depression at this
time, but you are not depressed, there is an emotional even spiritual change or
shift that you need to be aware of, this mental change once you apply it, has the
power to change things forever.
You are like a river, constantly flowing, changing. There is an old saying that you
can never step into the same river twice, things like sadness, frustration, pain,
fear are all passing logs leaves and bracken that have fallen in the river, They
are just passing by they come, they go. Some are new recently fallen into the
river, others are old, rotten.
Sometimes they almost fill the river, occasionally they will dam up, seeming to
clog everything… but they always come then they go…
Even though at times it may seem like it…they are not the river, they are just
things in the river that will come then go… they are not the river…
If they were the river, then when they went away, the river would go to… but it
never does, the river is always there, so what does this mean, it means that if
pain, frustration, depression, sadness or anger where you, then when they went
away, you would go, but you never do, you like the river are always here.
You are always here, you are that which these things appear in front of, you are
the witness, the perceiver of depression, or that which perceives depression, is
not depressed. Imagine holding something in your hand right now, anything at all, a
pencil a cup, so there is you then the thing you are holding. The thing you are
holding we will call depression, so we have you then apart from this we have
depression.
Now put the thing you’re holding down, let go of it. Depression comes and
depression goes, each time you pick it up, or place it down, it comes then it goes,
sometimes you will let it stay for a while, yet it will always go.
But you, you are always here, problems arise when you start to identify as
depression, you should never identify with that which comes and goes. There is a
very famous old saying that states, before enlightenment I was depressed, after
enlightenment I was still depressed, but it’s totally different now…
I no longer identify with depression, I realized that it wasn’t me, I observed it,
allowed it to come, to go without resisting it, fighting it, this is freedom this
is truth.
Change and movement can create challenges, the fear of defeat of failure is always
with us, from changing jobs to moving house to starting a new relationship. Many
people take a fear of failure with them into these changes. Your client may have
noticed many small random synchronicities pointing toward that change as it was
coming into their lives. Think of this as the universe either signaling that change
is needed, or as getting ready for change. Often these smaller events can point
towards deeper, spiritual, emotional or life events taking place.
Ideally you will want manifesting cards to appear in appropriate places such as
money, however for this example we will have the card fall in position one travel
or movement. On the surface one’s personal finances may be changing even if no
likely way for this to occur is obvious at the present time. Something will appear
that will allow your client to make more money, whether this is an idea, a business
venture or the opportunity to do some work on the side.
This is entirely wrong, money and wealth flows, like a river, it is constantly
flowing into our life, then back out again, whatever we pay out or give away will
eventually flow back to us.
A message for the client. The Universal Law of Cause and Effect
I’m sure you have heard this before that everything happens for a reason. It is one
of the major irrefutable Laws of our human destiny. Like gravity it is unavoidable.
Understanding this law means that you must accept that we live in a world governed
by such laws, not by coincidence. While apparent coincidences do have a role the
fundamental truth is that everything happens for a reason. Being rich happens for a
reason, being poor happens for a reason.
Whether or not we recognize what that reason may be. Every effect, failure or
success, poverty or wealth, has a definite cause or causes.
What many people fail to come to grips with is that every step you take NOW is
creating some kind of future event, circumstance or situation. Every cause or
action has an effect or consequence of some kind or another, you may not always be
able to see it, you won’t always like it, but it remains true.
This law says that all achievement, wealth, happiness, prosperity and success are
the direct or indirect effects, the results, of things you do and actions you take.
Further that all happiness, wealth and prosperity are also be the results of things
you did, or did not do, actions you did or did not take. Efforts unconsciously
taken to remain where you are.
This means, if you can be clear about the results you want from life, you can
almost certainly achieve those results. This universal Law of Cause and Effect
applies to money as much as to any other subject. Like everything else financial
success is an effect … a result. It arrives from certain, specific actions or
causes.
Once you are able to recognize these causes then implement them in your own actions
and life, you will arrive at the same results that thousands even millions of other
people have. You can acquire whatever amount of financial success you really want,
simply by doing what others before you have done to achieve their results. Here is
the other part of the rule… if you don’t, you won’t. It is as simple as that.
seconds!
According to our general rule swords denote our mental world, what we think about
things. Sword cards that fall in most positions denote how we think about that area
as opposed to what we will do or feel. In this example the Ten of Swords details
how the client thinks about finances or wealth. Our thoughts are the principal
creative forces in life. You create your entire world by the way you think. All
those people and situations of your life are a direct result of your thoughts. This
being true, then it stands to reason that if you change your thinking … you change
your life, sometimes these changes can occur within
Thoughts are causes, our conditions our circumstances in life are effects caused by
that thinking. Thoughts create feelings which in turn create our actions in certain
areas of life. If we harbor thoughts of poverty, we feel poor, this in turn makes
us act behaving as if we were actually poor.
In this placement I have often found that the client has suffered some form of
setback financially, usually caused by circumstances out of their control, such as
money being stolen or a business partner ripping them off. If so then the placement
has special significance for them, About ninety percent of what occurs in the world
is out of our control, so it is not what happens to you that is important, but how
you think about what happens to you that determines how you feel or react, what you
will do, or not do, the steps that you take.
A message for the client. It is not the world outside of us that determines our
circumstances or conditions. It is the mental world inside that creates the
conditions of life. It is the way you think about everything from being taken
advantage of, to being stolen from in the past that fundamentally determines your
financial circumstances today.
Look at the most important parts of your life - your family, your health, work,
business. Take some time to deeply observe the cause-effect connections between
what you think, what you say internally to yourself or externally to others, what
you feel, the actions you either take … or avoid taking … the results you get from
life. Be honest with yourself, you become what you think about most of the time.
Health is effected by our mental emotional worlds, in this case we can look to a
direct link between emotion and the clients state of wellbeing. If you've been
feeling ill, there may be a link to a past relationship, something or someone that
has not been properly let go of. This situation will change soon.
There is a scientifically proven connection between some states of illness and our
emotional world. Not letting go of something that has truly finished can actually
make us feel very sick.
The good news here is that the card falling here signifies gaining new strength or
the return of health. The taking back of control, (note the fish has been captured,
contained)
The devil we know and the devil we don’t. When this card appears in the health area
I am apt to ask about addictions, if not the client themselves, then someone very
close to the client or in their care.
The message here is profound, like many cards the devil contains numerous hidden
symbols. The people in the image are in bondage to something, so much in bondage to
a situation a lifestyle choice or a substance that they themselves are taking on
the traits of that addiction, they are becoming like the thing itself. Hence the
tails and other features that make them look like devils.
A message for the client. Contrary to what they may feel, this may be the time for
them to undertake some form of spiritual or metaphysics study, because the truth is
that … the chains holding you or someone you love back, or not allowing you to move
forward or away from whatever this is … are illusions, those chains are not real.
In the image they are as it turns out merely paper chains, it was the idea that
they were real that was holding these people back. The study or learning you have
considered in the past but haven't had the opportunity to start, will create both
advancement and creativity.
This position which is the last card dealt down as you lay the spread, deals with
the client themselves, who and what they are, how they identify themselves, work or
career, it reveals important issues, concerns and areas about their lives.
On the whole this area should be good, occasionally however you may find something
that isn’t so pleasant. The seven of cups when it appears here deals primarily with
dreams and goals, the things we want from life, that seem far away, perhaps even
unachievable.
There may be an overriding sense that it Can’t Be Done, what is needed is some good
old fashioned Self-Honesty even some
Tunnel Vision. A clear vision a pathway to the goal at hand. The brilliant thing
about humans is that after about age sixteen, we have all the tools we need, we may
not recognize it, but they are there.
The client may need to develop some empathy some open-ness toward others. That said
it in no way means they have been dishonest or, insensitive, it simply means they
may have been focusing on what they believe they can’t achieve, it has appeared
they have ignored or disengaged with others, the fact is they haven’t at all, it
just appears this way.
If the client opens up about their history, their personal beliefs you may find a
parent or other authority figure in their youth who took the attitude that the
world is flat so get used to it, life is governed by destiny, there is nothing you
can do about it. The client has taken this on as a pathway. With this belief it is
sometimes easier to give up than to keep pressing forward, yet we know they don’t
want to let go of their dreams, because they keep thinking about them.
One of my favorite cards, because it was one of the first I ever learned the true
meaning of, or understood the deeper meaning behind. Here the traveler in the image
goes off in search of the ninth cup. It appears his or her life is almost complete,
there is just that one more thing to acquire. While the card falls in money it can
be related to other areas of life such as relationships or work, because sadly
money is related to almost every aspect of our lives, it’s a result of the society
we live in. everybody starts out loving their job, then after a while we become
dis-satisfied with it with what we are doing, our position and opportunities for
growth begin to fade, or stagnate.
In relationships perhaps your client should try walking in someone else shoes for a
mile or even two miles. Perhaps they are transferring money or work issues over to
their relationships, bringing work home as it were.
Either way the person in the card is off in search of something that is missing in
life.
A message for the client. There is just that one other thing I need before I can do
this… You need just one more piece of information before making a decision. I need
to look at all the gyms in my area to get the best deal, find the one with the best
equipment. You need to have just a few more things in place before you can actually
make a start. I had better buy that new gym outfit, cant train without it, or that
new gym bag. I need a few more dollars in the bank, I need to sort out all the
bills before I can feel secure. If you keep telling yourself that you don’t know
enough, or that you lack the resources or experience to take the next step. Then
you will never step forward and grow.
This Illusion of Not Enough is that vague undefinable sensation that you need more,
that there is always something missing, or you really need to have your act
together before you can take any action. It is the main cause of
procrastination, the greatest inhibitor to taking that first step.
It seems that there is always something missing, that there is always that one more
thing to acquire, another step to achieve or one last obstacle to overcome before
they can move on. The problem is, that one last thing is either so far out of reach
it can never be achieved, or if it is gained, then another thing takes its place.
Once this feeling (which is really nothing more than an attitude) is shifted there
will be improvement in work or career. In fact there may even be a giant leap
forward. Your client may find new work or discover that they can ask for and
receive a promotion in the current job. Understanding this simple concept may lead
you to bigger and better things in all areas of life.
Self Esteem, I can’t tell you the number of times a client has started opening up
and revealed that they suffer from self-image problems. Only to discover that they
have been using the wrong words, incorrect language.
As I look at them I see someone welldressed well presented, someone who I seriously
doubt has self-image issues, yet they have spent money, been to seminars, read
books all to improve their self-image. Only to find, as we dig deeper that they
actually suffer from self-direction issues, or they lack self-determination, or
have lost Self Respect, yet with all their effort the problems is never solved or
improved, because they have been dealing with their self-image when they should
have been dealing with another issue.
The five of cups shows an individual focusing on what is damaged, things that have
fallen things that have collapsed. While unseen behind him things remain intact,
full and complete, perhaps the future for your client seems bleak, thoughts should
be directed to the good things that have happened in the past. The area is
connected to ones dreams and ambitions in life, which are generally outside of what
we think we are capable of. This reflects directly on one or more of the twelve
self’s. (Please see future Volumes of Mastering the Tarot)
After chatting with the client for a while, discovering what those ambitions may
be, I ask the following questions. Do You Think You Can Do It? Then, Do You Believe
You Can Do It? The answers sometimes reveal concerns with their Self Confidence,
which is undermined by Self Depreciation, SelfDoubt, which in turn leaves them with
lowered Self Worth which in turn makes them overly Self Consciousness.
A vicious confusing cycle that we can’t seem to break out of.
A message for the client. Ever Thought I’d Rather Be Someone Else. Another illusion
that we live under which can slow some people right down, to a dead stop, is
comparing yourself to others. How many times have you thought I don’t measure up,
then allowed that feeling to stop you. Or run through that internal dialogue that
goes, “I can never be as good as them”, as good looking as fit, or as trim, so why
even bother. The next step is to convince yourself that you’re happy just the way
you are. Only to discover that you are not… While our parents meant well trying to
protect us from feelings of disappointment, they did this the same way their
parents taught them. We teach our children to think in terms of comparison, those
smart kids get A+s in fact the whole glass is compared to that average rate. Your
older brother is an engineer, a doctor, a lawyer. We compare ourselves making
valuations to people with better jobs, more education, how many times have you
heard someone say I’m only a check-out chick at the supermarket. Or he is only a
plumber.
Well here’s the amazing thing… none of that has anything to do with you realizing
your ambitions.
We seem to be continuously measuring ourselves against another’s standards or
views. Generally these views or valuations are not ours, we have been given them by
wellmeaning parents, friends and society at large. We take on others beliefs and
values then in turn project those beliefs onto others, especially our own children.
While we would like to imagine we are passing on good values, like study hard at
school, we are also passing on less than perfect ideas, such as don’t be like that
person.
Your parents and authority figures may have inadvertently ingrained these messages
into your subconscious, so while you’re working hard to study to better yourself,
you are also in a subconscious battle to not be like certain people or not to get
yourself in situations that will lower you value.
Not being homeless or destitute for example, is a common driver with some people,
while fighting against it, they actually draw it to themselves. It appears to come
closer with every relationship break up, with every business failure, so in the end
we believe that we can never be as good as someone else, we may even, in the end,
give up altogether.
The hermit, a lonely figure traveling out across the wilderness. Traditionally
living in the forest or some convenient cave.
Have you ever walked into a room full of people, yet still felt alone… the hermit
is alone either because he believes he should be alone, or life has lead him to be
alone, perhaps a personal journey of growth, that other do not understand. In some
cases he lives under an illusion. An illusion which can slow some people right
down, to a dead stop. Comparing yourself to others. Constantly feeling that one can
never live up to that comparison. How many times have you thought I don’t measure
up, then allowed that feeling to stop you. or run
through that internal dialogue that goes, I can never be as good as them, as good
looking as successful, or as smart, so why even bother, the next step is to
convince yourself that your happy just the way you are.
Therefore if I’m ok as I am, then there is no need to improve or get better. Learn
more or develop. In fact I am alone in the world. I prefer the life of the hermit.
A few close friends, everybody else is relegated to casual acquaintance.
The message for the client, While our parents meant well and tried to protect us
from feelings of disappointment, they did this the same way their parents taught
them. We teach our children to think in terms of comparison, those smart kids get
A+s in fact the whole glass is compared to that average rate. Your older brother is
an engineer, a doctor, a lawyer. We compare ourselves making valuations to people
with better jobs, more education, how many times have you heard someone say I’m
only a check-out chick at the supermarket. Or he is only a plumber.
Well here’s the amazing thing… none of that has anything to do with you being
successful in your own right. Other people are not better than you, they are
different than you.
We seem to be continuously measuring ourselves against another’s standards or
views. Generally these views or valuations are not ours, we have been given them by
wellmeaning parents, friends or society at large. We take on others beliefs and
values then in turn project those beliefs onto others, especially our own children.
A possible solution, for what it’s worth is to garner your Self-Control, remember
other people who have achieved some success are not higher up the evolutionary
scale that you are, they have simply seen something through, taken a path created
outcomes that are different to yours. They also have different time lines than
yours, a combination of the right effort, the right time and your time for success
is not theirs.
Ask yourself Do You Have the Self Control to see your goals through? After All it’s
Your Dream. Those other people who you look up to, even compare yourself to, Would
You Be Letting them down by not achieving your goals, would they even care,
“really” If You Didn’t Do What Needed to Be Done to reach your own success, who
would suffer them or you…?
This card in this situation can represent either client or one of the clients
children, most likely an adult male or a girl who was a bit of a tomboy in her
early years the offspring may be exhibiting some financial irresponsibly, which
worries the client, as we are all concerned that our children are doing well. The
person in question may be leaving things to chance, such as bills or financial
concerns or getting their financial life in order, not making a decision leaving
things to the eleventh hour or avoiding them altogether
Then later when things go really bad they proclaim it’s not their fault asking
why?! Usually you will hear statement’s like “This always happen to
me”. Failing to realize that they made it happen, their
actions their choices, lead to the outcome.
Message for the client, never ask why. Ask instead how, when, where or what. As in
why did this happen to me? Ask instead how did this happen to me? When did this
begin to take form in my life? Remember everything that happens is a result of
selfdetermination, personal volition, and choices that you make. Other than things
outside our personal locus of control we need to learn that everything that occurs
to us personally is the result of some action we did, or did not take, our lives
are like a do it yourself project, to take the attitude that I make things happen.
Most people work from a place of fear, worrying about what will happen if they
don’t succeed instead of what will happen if they do succeed. This fear can lead to
Compulsive Behavior or a personal entrapment such as drugs or gambling
In this position it generally refers to someone like this, but through fear or
false beliefs cant or wont express their real talents, thus those talents are not
given to the world.
From a young age, we are all appointed. Assigned to positions in life, each
position has with it various goals
We need to ask ourselves some questions. Have I become mentally trained by all
these external appointments? Have I been assigned a set of supposed goals, a locked
in way to live to be, have I taken this on with all its failings false beliefs and
pitfalls. Has this given me personal power, or has it taken it away or do I act and
live as if, I have no power that personal power only exists outside of myself?
Message for the client. Forces that exist outside of us, telling us what to do, how
to behave even what to believe are taking your personal power, your belief in
yourself as well as hindering you from moving toward your goals, reaching your full
potential. On the surface many of these rules are good, “don’t cross the road
without looking”, without them we would not have survived, but the rules and
regulations about what you are, who you can be are notoriously bad,
From a very young age, society conditions each of us to undervalue who and what we
are. Why? Because they want you to look to them for your sense of self-worth. They
want you to look to outside yourself for validation, approval for permission.
What becomes important are things like what job you do, how much education you
have, how much money you have, none of these things are true as a measure of value.
In fact every successful person we look up to more often than not, broke these
rules. Einstein was told he was no good at math, Henry Ford was called a failure.
Colonel Sanders (of KFC fame) tried to commit suicide because he was broke.
Aside from the fundamentals, which we need for survival. Much of what we learn
through our formalized education system is outdated knowledge. It actually creates
a stunting of your initiative, your inner creativity our capacity for thinking
outside the box. Many thinkers are now realizing that the education system is
designed to control your focus your beliefs. It is also very carefully calculated
to condition you to accept your assigned place in the social order of things.
It may be time to step out of, to step away from what you can’t do, or what you
have been told you can’t do and follow your dream... Don’t limit your life or your
income while you wait for someone else to give you permission to be more.
Rediscover your own power expand your beliefs, embrace the life you were born for.
Emerson said, “Do the thing, and you will have the power.”
We have been collectively mesmerized into believing that we are smaller, less
valuable than we really are. Part of that programing is to make you feel really bad
about yourself if you question this. We have been misled into believing our value
is determined by the size or quantity of our material possessions rather than our
personal power or the quality of our lives.
Most of us unwittingly think about, day dream about, we plan for the future yet we
do not Project ourselves Into the Future. Rather than day dreaming we should be
Projecting. Perhaps not just our own future, but the future of others.
Message for the client. We need to understand that most wealth is created through
intergenerational means. Most people who get rich do not get rich in a life time.
While it is possible, when one considers the vast billions of people on the planet,
it is the exception to the rule, Steve Jobs, is an exception to the rule. Bill
gates, is an exception to the rule. Such things only occur
once in a while. While it is possible, for you to be an exception to the rule, most
of the people around you, are unfortunately not exceptions to the rules. Especially
if they are your children they are the ones you have to worry about and perhaps
share this knowledge with.
Some people are constantly playing catch up, they need to save and create for those
behind them. Often the only choice we have is to save passing what we have saved on
to the next generation. The problem may not be the way you spend now, it may be
that you are stealing from the generation yet to come.
You may be stealing from your descendants, you are leaving them little to no
inheritance to get started with. Families who plan well and project into the future
are creating a good foothold for their children, many of them start out with enough
money to feel secure or safe in the world. If you are worried about finances right
now, chances are this is the feeling the legacy you could be leaving behind.
If your only option for leaving a good legacy is life insurance or superannuation,
then that needs to be dealt with. A surprising number of baby boomers don’t have
either of these. Thus little legacy is left.
There are possibly many strategies for wealth that you have left untried or
unexplored. Even down to the basics of proper life insurance or just plain old
fashioned saving. Remember being broke is a mindset, not a reality. Why because we
are generally selfish we want what we want and we want it now. If all else fails.
Try putting a measly ten percent of your money away.
Pairs
Now let’s look at a few examples of pairing, where two cards fall together in the
spread. The order doesn’t matter so long as the cards are adjacent in any direction
for example position one and two or one and three.
Example Eight The Magician The Eighth Card Down, With The Three Of Wands In
Position Nine. Limiting Beliefs
We each have beliefs about the world and the way it works. Our experiences through
life have ingrained within us deep-rooted ideas about what is, or is not, what is
possible what is not
possible; what or who we are, or who we are not. What we are capable of doing, what
goals are beyond our reach.
Some of these ideas may be valid, such as eating properly, washing your hands after
going to the toilet, not talking to strangers, working hard for the boss, other
beliefs may be wildly off the mark, like ATM cards are unending sources of money,
I’ll never be rich, or overweight people are jolly. These ideas may have been
inherited from a family member or picked up then reinforced through feeling good
and comfortable after sweet or fatty foods. All this occurred before we were old
enough to examine them subjectively. Either way, our beliefs can affect our
decisions and choices, whether or not we realize it.
You know as an adult in your logical mind that credit cards are not magical money
making devices, however as a child watching your mother use one to pay for the
shopping you may have, even for a short time, believed or wished that they were,
after all your mother handed over the card suddenly almost as if by magic
everything was taken care of.
This simple erroneous belief may be affecting you now in adult life this bad belief
could be partly responsible for your savings problems now.
Even though you don’t believe that credit cards are magical there are times when
without knowing it you are acting as if it they were, handing over the credit card
when you know you
shouldn’t.
Our beliefs are conclusions we have drawn based on our experiences as children. If
we grow up in a warm, nurturing supportive family we will have very different
beliefs than if we grow up in a painful, shaming or abusive family. Dad comes home
at least twice a week complaining about the foreman at work, years later, you don’t
like the foreman at any of your jobs, you’re not even really sure why you don’t
like them, all you know is they are as a rule all A-holes.
One constant is, at the time we chose any belief, no matter what that belief may
be, it made sense at the time. It was originally designed to protect or benefit us
in some way, therefore no belief is unintelligent, or bad, or even wrong. Beliefs
serve a purpose and sometimes our lives change so much that old beliefs become a
mismatch for our lives as we change.
The problem is sometimes beliefs developed as children don't always serve us well
as adults. We have changed our situation has changed yet our deeper beliefs have
not changed with us. As children we may truly believe that credit cards are magical
money producing devices. That bosses are evil that you can have super powers that
mum or dad will protect you that you never have to do anything alone. It makes
perfect sense at the time to believe this, some of the adults around you may have
even supported or reinforced these beliefs by the way they acted and the things
they did.
As adults however these values are seriously dated, even dangerous beliefs such as
“bosses are always hard to get on with”, is not going to make your working life
very comfortable, holding onto the belief that “Saving money is for boring nerds”
is detrimental to creating the kind of life we really want. Most of us have
probably worked through beliefs like these. Other beliefs are much more subtle than
this and lay beneath more obvious ones.
Perhaps as a child you did believe that credit cards were enchanted money producing
bits of plastic, and while you have grown up and no longer believe that, you do as
an adult you have a persistent problem with being in debt. Can’t balance the books,
always robbing Peter to pay Paul, are basically not responsible with money. We
might then look below this for a belief about fear of responsibility. Something
like, "Responsible people are boring." and under that might be "Boring people are
lonely."
Other beliefs which hold us back are “I can’t do anything alone”, “I hate being
overweight but it’s how I am destined to be” ”I’m not smart enough” “not pretty
enough” “I come from the wrong background”.
Recognizing these false values allows you the freedom to begin being more
responsible. You would begin noticing yourself make wiser choices about paying
bills, eating, working, saving, or spending your money more wisely and so on.
Changing the beliefs, the values you get from those beliefs, enables you to
aligning your life habits, viewing success more positively thus taking that first
step forward.
The Magician in Position Eight with King of Wands in Position Nine How to Identify
Limiting Beliefs
Another way of telling or determining that you are being held back by your own
limiting belief or Santa clauses is to have a
The person who always dates the same type of loser or cheater we all know the type
of person she is more often than not very intelligent even excellent at work
dresses well seems as they say to have it all together, yet somehow she always
seems to end up with "dead-beat" guys? Then there is the lonesome fellow who always
seems to pick partners that cheat on him he is the veritable cuckold. Both these
people appear to repeat this pattern over and over again despite any advice or
common sense.
Then there are those talented industrious people we all know, those that you know
if they could only break the mold, shift the pattern, would be millionaires based
on their talent alone perhaps you or someone you know is a singer or an artist a
standup comedian or someone you know would be successful in their own business, you
know this because they are always talking about it. Yet when it comes to doing
something about it they can never get the first foot out the door. While unemployed
friends take it easy “living the high life," you are industriously hard working,
paying living bills, yet always Struggling to make ends meet.
Finally, you begin to question the wisdom of your behavior then you start to
visualize a new job a stepping stone to greater things or running your business
part time just to get things going, Ill build up from there you say to yourself. Or
you say I’ve had enough of this person in my life I need to move on so you dump him
or her, only to replace them with a "clone” a look-a-like". You end up in the exact
same job in the same industry only in a different location with a foreman, or
manager you despise even more than the last, you see your new relationship heading
down the same path as before, you begin to feel lost, lonely perhaps even a little
afraid.
To everyone else your friends, your family (possibly your therapist) the warning
signs are fairly obvious, you’ve done it again you however are oblivious to them.
Have you been telling yourself the same story over and over again, have you been
promising yourself for the last ten years that you will lose 20 pounds, to no
avail? Yet somehow you find that you are never able to adhere to a fitness program.
Have you been promising yourself that you’ll get fit, find a better job, go back to
school, do a course, start that radio show, write a book, make that film, or
anything else, for a very long time now?
You know intrinsically that you can do the things you want to do, you keep telling
yourself that you can, but that’s as far as you get, telling yourself, You don't
like the way you look, you’re not happy with your savings, you keep telling
yourself that tomorrow you will start but tomorrow never seems to come. You don't
like the way you feel. So you keep saying I’ll go to the gym. You are concerned
about health risks, so you tell yourself that giving up smoking or exercising would
be the best thing right now but something stops you from successfully taking that
first step.
You are chronically late with your bills. Are you constantly robbing Peter to pay
Paul, somehow convincing yourself that it will be Ok that your only a week or a
month late, each time this happens do you promise yourself that it won’t happen
again?. Yet that never happens. Something gets in your way? You continue to create
this unpleasant anxiety producing state of affairs? The saddest part is that you
actually know you’re doing it.
You have trouble saying "no". Is it difficult for you to be assertive (not
aggressive) to say “no”? You end up fulfilling the needs or in some cases the
demands or requests of others as your own needs are delayed or go unfulfilled
altogether. Which of our little Santa clauses is it that stops you from developing
a healthy sense of entitlement?
Do you procrastinate? Is it your habit to put things off, this behavior makes you
unhappy, yet you can't seem to organize yourself to get things started. Believe it
or not
procrastination is a very big sign that you may be protecting yourself from
something more on this later for the moment ask yourself (again be honest) What is
really interfering with your capacity to get things done now?
You have difficulty effectively setting and achieving life goals. You know that
your life isn't going the way that you had planned or visualized. Your career goals
are “sort of concrete” yet vague at the same time you are going with the flow. That
flow doesn’t always flow the way you would like.
Your love life is actually sad you spent at least twenty minutes each day wishing
it was better that “they” would change, or that you had the Moxie to leave, yet you
can't seem to figure out what you want or how to go about pursuing it. Then you
realize, even though you’ve heard a thousand times, read it in numerous
motivational books, seen it on TV, heard it from friends that you have never
actually taken the time to sit down to write out your goals.
The Magician Falls in Position Two Health with Strength in Position Three That
Voice You Hear
We have fairly well established that when we talk to
ourselves, we are talking ourselves out of things, usually really good ideas; we
may have talked ourselves out of success, business or relationships.
Yet we don’t just talk to ourselves, we also listen, most of the time, that voice
we hear is not ours. That voice is a shadow, an echo of past voices, our parents,
teachers, friends or society at large, everything we have heard bounces around in
our heads until needed.
We get our doing as well as our communicating models from our parents, how we
communicate with the world usually develops at an early
age from our opposite sex parent, while how to do things in the world comes from
our same sex parent. As a small girl the first males that you may have communicated
with was your father or the person that took on the fatherhood role in your life,
for the rest of your life you have been using that model, developed as a child, to
talk to communicate with all the males in your life.
In other words, you have been talking to all men as if they were your father, then
expecting (at a subconscious level), them to react the same way your father would
have. When they don’t you become displaced. Things don’t seem right, or it may feel
that they don’t understand you, or that you are not being listened to, all because
you are not getting the reactions or responses you expect.
The same is true for males. As small boys, from infancy your mother instilled in
you a way of communicating with all females. Later in life, when that communication
model is so ingrained so natural for you , that you don’t see it, it’s just the way
you are, there can be problems when talking to women, because some of them don’t
react or converse, back to you the way you internally expect them to, like your Mum
would.
At the same time we get our doing or operating model from the same sex parent,
whether we like it or not, to a very large degree we become our parents. Girls
learn to behave, to operate the same way their mother’s do, while boys learn what
to do in the world, how to react to things from their fathers.
Cast your mind back to any argument or “debate” that your parents might have had,
you will have learned from your you opposite sex parent how to communicate in the
argument, what to say , how to say it, then what to do about that argument, how to
react from your same sex parent. If as a female you saw your father raise his voice
at certain points that is what you are most likely to do. If after the argument
your mum stormed out of the room or shut herself away in a shell. To a very large
degree, that is what you will do.
Later in life we become so used to this, so good at it we don’t always check to see
if this is the best way of doing things. We believe this is the most productive way
of dealing with the world of communicating our ideas or our needs. We fall into the
trap of repeating this behavior over and over again. It becomes out normal way of
operating.
At the same time we are listening internally to all the things our parents said,
after all, what was the first word that most of us understood as children, the
first word we were able to react to, “NO”, the first word that had any real meaning
for us was a negative. The word “NO” there may be the constant echo of the word NO
that rears itself in most situations that either or both of your parents may have
disagreed with. The sad part is we don’t realize we are doing this it becomes
natural for us.
Next we listen to other members of our family, there may be an uncle or aunt that
we admired or felt love from as a child, there may also be some who we felt less
than love from, yet we still listen to the echoes, the shadows of their voices,
their opinions their ways of doing things, anyone who had any emotional contact
with us, has a lasting effect on us through to adulthood. So much of the time we
feel that we are operating under our own will, having our own opinions, we are not.
We are simply echoing the views or opinions we learned from others. These others
include teachers, keep in mind that much of the education system is designed to
tell us, what to think not how to think.
You may be a mother a father yet you are also a son or daughter, you can be a
friend a confidant, a worker, a manager a tradesman, a cook, a house cleaner, a
wife a husband along with a variety of other things, such as counsellor to your
friends, nurse to your children, lover to your partner. You are all of them, yet
not at the same time.
When you arrive at your parents’ house, regardless of your age or circumstances,
most of us click into son or daughter mode, later when we arrive back home, we
click into husband or wife mode or mother or father, each situation or
circumstances, allows a different part of us to step into the driver’s seat of our
personality, we are different with our friends than we are with our parents.
Then depending on who or where we are, which part is driving us, we may be
listening to different stories, believing different truths, operating, then acting
in different ways. Often these different ways can be in conflict with what is best
for us. One part of us may want success in a certain area of life, while at the
same another part of us believes that something entirely different is best for us.
A good example of this is the man who believes that road rage is stupid, public
displays of anger are unproductive, embarrassing, only causing stress, which is
true. He also believes that being on time for work is really good, he earns more
money, the boss respects him, at the end of the day he feels that he has put in a
good effort, even sleeps better at night, which is also true.
Then one day he finds himself stuck in traffic now he may be late for work, next
thing he knows he is feeling disjointed, angry at the other drivers for holding him
up, he could, given the right circumstances end up exhibiting road rage.
Both his beliefs where true, being on time for work, plus road rage is for idiots,
yet they could not both be true in the same place. Many parents exhibit similar
behavior when it comes to children, a part of them has one truth, another part,
another truth, both of which are true, yet given the right time or place these
truths can be in conflict with each other, different parts are listening to
different messages. It’s Ok for the kids to act in a certain way, but it is bad
parenting if somebody else allows their kids to do the same. But the way you do it
is always different. It was Ok in my day, but my kids will learn better values.
Different parts of us listen to different echoes or shadows of what we have been
told at various points in our live, the child within you has different values or
beliefs than the adult the parent or the worker. The part of you that wants to be
successful in business may have different values, that part will listen to
different memories than the part of you that wants to be a good wife or husband,
there is an internal conflict within most of us that is easier to avoid altogether
than confront or deal with.
So what do you do about it? Firstly become aware that you might be listening to
voices from the past, listening to voices that are not yours, become aware of the
difference between when you talk to yourself and when you listen, talking to
ourselves involves an internal dialogue, at other times we sit or wander mentally
almost in contemplation, that’s when we are listening, we are listening to our
feelings, more than to words.
Listening may involve vague emotions such as guilt. We want something, like success
in business or a certain amount in the bank, part of us is prepared to save, work
extra hours, putting money in the bank becoming self-disciplined enough not to
spend any unnecessary money until we reach our goal. Yet for some weird reason we
feel guilt, there is no real reason for it, it is simply there, that vague feeling
that if I save money I’m actually hording or being nasty or that somebody else
might miss out. This is when we are listening, with our feelings, to those voices
from the past, the voices that told us that it is wrong to be rich, that having
money is not spiritual, that rich people step on others people’s toes rich folk are
generally not nice.
The Magician Falls in Position Eight with Two of Pentacles in Position Ten Where Do
You Spend Most Of Your Time?
Letting go of the past
A question I often ask my clients is, where do you spend most of your time, in the
past, the present or the future? If you were to really think about it, which of
these occupies your thoughts the most, do you dwell in the past, going over old
mistakes, wishing that you had done it better or not at all. Do you regret things
you di, or didn’t do? Are you hopeful of the future, how much time do you spend
planning what you will do when you win lotto, or are you cognizant of the present
what you’re doing right now, what the choices you are making in the now.
There is very little we can do about the past (except in some cases apologize) the
future is
uncertain; we can make rough predictions but that is all. Realistically all you
have is right now, this moment in time, you are certain about NOW nothing else,
what you do now determines the type of future you will have.
If I chose to do things now that are productive things that will get me closer to
my dreams, then I am projecting those actions into the future the chances of me
reaching those goals are getter.
If I chose to do nothing or to let my fears or natural procrastination get the
better of me, then that is the future I am heading toward.
Everything you do now creates a possible future, this is like a superpower once you
understand it apply it to your life
Again your intuition will guide you as you read the cards, sometime you will feel
that they have significance together. Other times you will simply want to read them
as individual cards. This feeling may even change during a single reading. Go with
the flow allow your imagination your intuition to connect and create an image that
involves each of the cards.
The Hermit in Position One with the Eight of Cups in Position Four
These two cards in a sense deal with the same issues having on the surface similar
meanings. Therefore the fact that they have turned up so close to each other could
mean that the message is compounded.
Both cards deal with the solitary search for something else in life. The Hermit is
the archetypal symbol of one who seeks
truth, deeper meaning. While the Eight of Cups (a minor card) represents our
impulse
We can view this as a journey toward personal insight, perhaps this is what our two
travels seek as they roam the lands. Understanding the self means we develop a
greater
understanding or empathy for others.
Growing and developing our personal Insight is a major part of both Eastern and
Western philosophies. Recently finding ground in the arts as well as the sciences.
Psychology for example has a lot to do with mindfulness these days. Developing
insight is also a main component of being healthy.
The concern here may be that the client is doing this alone, it does not have to be
a solitary journey. Insight may be the best way to learn more about life, but life
involves other beings, other people the journey is primarily about understand the
mind and body dynamic as a whole, this includes relationships and communications,
interactions with the world at large. Dealing with our own emotions, thoughts or
reactions, in the right way helps deal with others. True if you do choose not to do
this alone, then you may have to be very careful even specific about whom you
select to journey with...
So now position one become about inward travel, the journey toward self. This is
supported by the cups in position four. Insight is in essence both knowledge and
understanding derived from an "inward sight", or travelling inward, looking inside
your own mind and body then observing it. It can be a natural or an intentional
process as sometimes you need to see things differently to see them clearly, but
most important is knowing which lens or style to use to make it clear.
You will recall that cups have to do with emotions, cups hold water, as Bruce Lee
said water will take the shape of whatever vessel you pour it into, thus our
emotions keep changing according to where we are as well as who we are with.
Both these cards are full of hidden symbolism. Both involve other people, the six
of cups, has someone being rejected even sent away, note the man in the background
with the wand, he appears to be leaving
the scene.
In this situation it may be an indication that things are not too well in your
client’s emotional life, usually this will reflect in relationships. Even though
they may have been in a relationship for many years, things or people outside the
relationship may be becoming attractive or desirable.
The Two of Cups lets us know two important things firstly the attraction is most
likely superficial it will not last. Any permanent changes made because of it, will
eventually turn out to have been the wrong changes. Secondly the boat you are in…is
not sinking. Anything can be repaired or rescued, provided you want it rescued.
The six of cups confirms this, while those initial feelings may be strong, they are
coming from the give-and-take of this new person or situation, this is however only
temporary.
The six of cups to me is an important card so it as with others will be fully
examined in later issues.
However you do them, keep in mind you are not just an average tarot reader, you
have risen above and beyond this, you are a counselor, a guide even a life coach.
The tarot offers in roads to psychotherapy and healing, your mission is to improve
the outlook even the life of your client, to help them answer questions, to perhaps
find new questions to offer direction with guidance.
The series will continue, to grow with you, the reader the student. Each volume
containing more valuable lessons not just in the tarot but in the meta-psychical as
well. As said the work assumes that you know the difference between the mayor and
minor arcane that you have some basic understanding of the tarot, if not then
please enjoy the appendix sections of each volume.

Shuffling
Primarily you will want your customer or client to shuffle the deck, have them hold
the cards in their left hand, then mix them while thinking of an area of life that
is important to them or a question they may have. To some this seems very
elementary, there is no right or wrong way to shuffle. The important thing is to be
calm, keep your question in mind, and use whatever method you normally use to mix
the deck.
When you first get a new deck shuffle it at least twenty times. Statistically it
takes about 20 shuffles to get the 78 cards into random order.
First Impressions
When laying down a spread, it is useful to take a few moments to look at the spread
as a whole, before reading individual cards. Is there a preponderance of one suit?
Are there several Major Arcana, or several Court Cards? Perhaps one color seems
prominent to you. These are indications that you should keep in mind when doing the
reading. They are often clues as to what is going on. For example, let’s say the
question concerns ones love life. You deal the spread and see there are lots of
pentacles, but not a cup in sight. What does this mean? It could mean that material
security is a key issue in the relationship right then. It could also mean that the
person should be focusing on financial matters right now, rather than the
relationship. Perhaps worrying about the relationship has led to them doing poorly
at work, or to spending more than they can afford to keep the other person happy.
Perhaps they are telling you that the issue is love, but the thing that is really
worrying them is money. Tarot sometimes tells us what we need to know vice what we
want to know. You might want to ask questions to explore these issues during the
reading.
Last Impressions
When you have finished interpreting the individual cards in the spread, you should
sum up the reading. Reviewing the overall reading, examining key elements and
allowing the client to direct the course or ask questions.
You can now give the querent the tools to change events, based on what is found in
the reading. Each reading should be empowering for the client, rather than a rehash
of things that came up during the session. Each of us has the power to influence
and change our future.
Pendulums
At some point anyone who deals in the arcane the new age or the tarot will happen
upon a pendulum. Pendulums are a good way of training the psychic mind to connect
with real physical objects, to transmit that energy or connection to others. There
are many books written on pendulums and how to employ them. Here are some quick
experiments that with practice can yield amazing results.
While you’re holding the pendulum allowing it to swing and rotate freely, have your
helper concentrate on a direction without telling you what it is, just wait, see
what the pendulum does.
Next have your assistant write the names of both living and dead people on sheets
of paper, not telling you which is which, hold the pendulum over each name noting
if there is any difference in the swing or the direction of the rotation.
Draw a map of the room you are in, have your helper hide an object in the room. Now
hold the pendulum over the map you have drawn seeing if there is any change in the
swing or rotation over different areas of the map.
