CHAPTER III
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This chapter shows the methods and techniques used by the researchers for the study.
This chapter also contains the population and description of the respondents, the instrument used
and the data gathering procedure.
Research Design
The researchers will use Qualitative method wherein it does not include any mathematical
figures. According to Creswell (2002) a qualitative research is meant to deeply explore,
understand and interpret social phenomena within its natural setting. By employing qualitative as
the researchers’ methodology, they aim to gather richer information and obtain more detailed
picture of issues, cases or events (Arora and Stoner 2009).
A Qualitative research is a social scientific method of observation that involves the
collection of evidence, besides it collects and works with non-numerical data. It answers the
questions “why and how”. Also, it refers to the definitions, concepts, symbols, characteristics
and description of the data gathered.
The study will use analytical method as a research design since this method should be used
if the problem can be simplified to a one-dimensional problem. An analytical method is a
procedure or method for the analysis of a problem, status and task-limited. Moreover it is used to
solve a specific problem. Hence, it should be presented in enough detail.
Research Instrument
The instrumentation that will be used in order to gather different data and information for
the study is questionnaire. The researchers will carry out questionnaires for 32 senior high school
students that suits the research respondent’s criteria. The researchers created different questions
that will be answered by thirty-two chosen respondents of the study. The goal of the researchers
is to determine the students’ perception about the school canteen and in addition, to explore
among the student’s idea of good cafeteria menu and services through answering the main
problem in order to help the canteen operators improve themselves and meet the satisfaction of
their consumers.
Population of the Study
The researchers use the subjective sampling technique because the study focuses on
students’ perspectives in which their opinions are the most effective in discovering the
satisfactory level of the school canteen.
Research respondent’s standards
1. They should be senior high school students of Colegio de Calumpit Inc. school year
2019-2020.
2. The respondent should be a Technical-Vocational-Livelihood track students.
3. They should be regular buyers of the products in the school canteen.
The given criteria is set to obtain accurate results in pursuing the goal of the research
study, inquiring the satisfactory level of students in the school canteen.
The researchers will use Random sampling, a type of probability sampling on determining
the respondents of the study.

The table 1 represents the respondents of the study. The respondents of the study are the
32 senior high school TVL strand students of Colegio de Calumpit Inc. Academic Year 2019-
2020. The researchers divide the respondents to the 4 sections of TVL, since they are not equally
divided, the researchers divided their respondents according to the number of students per
section. Since Grade 11-TVL B has the highest number of students, there are 10 respondents of
the study, 9 students from Grade 11-TVL A, 7 students from Grade 12-TVL A, and 6 students
from Grade 12-TVL B since it has the least number of students.
Data Collection
In order to limit the number of students to be given a questionnaires, the researchers
have selected a year of study deadline which is 2019 - 2020.
The researchers will produce a formal letter to the school administration confirming
that the subject teacher, and the canteen management approved this study.
After confirming the letter, the researchers will go to the respondents of the study
which is the senior high school TVL strand students of Colegio de Calumpit. The
researchers will give 9 questionnaires to the Grade 11- TVL A, 10 questionnaires to
the Grade 11- TVL B, 7 questionnaires to the Grade 12-TVL A and 6 questionnaires
to the Grade 12-TVL B.
Through this, researchers will be able to determine the answer to their study and will
interpret the information gathered from the respondents of the study.
