Since Quarantine began and the
schools shut down because of
covid-19 pandemic, life hasn’t been the same for many of us. A day in
my life is like many others, online school, eating, a small walk around
the neighborhood, and spending quality time with the ones that I love. I
find myself bored for hours, thinking of what to do next, inside, while
everything else is slowly closing down month after month.
Then last october I chosen to be Duta Edukasi Perubahan Perilaku
Covid-19, it is not only me. But with 29 other students in my campus. I
was so excited because I’ve never been joining to be volunteer before.
And It’s gonna be my first time volunteering.
Our work mainly focuses on raising awareness and sharing information
about COVID-19 and how to best prevent its transmission. We went to
houses and public spaces to hand out flyers and provide information on
how to prevent COVID-19 transmission and protect themselves. First,
we try to find out the level of understanding of COVID-19 in the people.
Then we share information on how to minimize transmission by
washing hands, physical distancing, staying at home and wearing
masks. We also made some videos about good habits that can save
our life during this pandemic. Not only about health protocol but we also
adding some tips about how to increas our imune by exercises,
meditate, eat clean, sleep-well and something like that.
Providing the right information to the right audiences in the right way is
crucial to ensure the community can successfully protect itself from
COVID-19. Since it is a new virus and no vaccine is available yet, the
best way to protect oneself is to adopt a clean and healthy lifestyle.
Although it might sound simple, this involves changing people’s
behaviours, which is especially challenging when they don’t have the
right information and have no idea where or who should they trust to
get guidance.
I feel some has not yet understood the danger of COVID and what
clean and healthy living actually is. And some others already know
what health protocol is, but choose to break it. There is still stigma in
the people there are those who see the coronavirus as a conspiracy
theory or a hoax.
Rule-breaking is not a new phenomenon, but behavioral scientists say it is
being exacerbated in the coronavirus pandemic by cultural, demographic and
psychological factors that can make the flouters seem more selfish and
dangerous.
In fact, people are quite obedient in wearing masks and washing their hands,
but not with social distancing. Then I tried to searching some article which
relate to this topic.
Why is social distancing difficult? "We are truly social animals," said Van
Bavel. "Our bodies and brains are designed for connection and the pandemic in
many ways goes against our instincts to connect." That's partly why local
outbreaks can crop up in bars and nightclubs, or religious ceremonies,
weddings and parties. "People have a hard time resisting that tendency for
social and group connection." If rule-breakers are a minority, why does it
matter? "The problem is that, in a massive collective problem like the one
we're facing now, if everybody breaks the rules a little bit, then it's not
dissimilar
One of the main features that makes us unique is that we view health as an
investment. And we basically view that any decision that people make - for
example, whether a person decides to have a carrot versus a cookie or go to the
gym versus watching a movie - is an investment decision. And so in that sense,
we view social distancing and mask wearing also as an investment decision
that a person makes and that he or she would basically compare the benefits of
that decision versus the costs that this decision entails.
how people behave in response to the real and perceived risks they face is a
key factor in tackling the pandemic. Indeed, history shows that behavioural
factors can play a large part in slowing and stopping disease spread.
Okay thanks for watching my video, I hope this video give some benefits for
you. Please take care of your health and bye
“The joy of being a volunteer is that I feel I’m being useful. From what I know,
the best kind of person is a useful one.”
