A holiday home
Many years ago, we bought a holiday home in Turkey. We wanted to have somewhere to use as a
base while we explored the south of the country.
It was a small house with two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchenette and a sitting room. The best
thing about the house was the huge L-shaped porch outside the house. We always had all of our
meals there. While we were eating, we had a great view of the shared garden and swimming pool.
We often went swimming because it was rarely crowded.
The house was located in a residential area and it was quite rural, so it was very quiet generally.
The nearest shopping district was more than ten miles away.
Our neighbours were very friendly, and we often had barbecues together on our porches.
The best thing about the house was that the beach was walkable from the house. It was amazing as
it was around 20 miles long, and next to the beach was a walking and cycle path. Early each
morning and in the early evening many people walked, jogged and cycled.
There were also many cafes along the whole route, so if you were thirsty or hungry, you could
always find somewhere to eat or drink something. The best time to do this was at sunset because
the view of the sun setting over the water was beautiful.
In summer the weather was very hot, up to 40 degrees Celsius. But the strange thing was that the
sea was always freezing cold!
The area near our home was full of history and there were many Roman ruins close by. Each year
we visited a different historical place.
Unfortunately, after eight years we sold the house because we needed the money to buy some
accommodation back home.
