✓Communication skills: As an HR practitioner, you must be able to express yourself clearly,
both in oral and written communication.
✓Organizational skills: HR involves a lot of paperwork that must be filed systemically such as
employee profile and legal documents. With all the processes and administrative tasks involved,
keeping organized will help increase your efficiency as an HR manager.
✓Decision-making skills: There is a lot of decision making involved in HR. One good example is
during the recruitment process where they have to decide whether an applicant is the right fit
for the role or not. Recognizing good talent is not something you can easily learn. It requires
strategy, experience and intuition.
✓Empathetic skills: The HR team deals with a lot of people and their concerns, from workload
to salary complaints to a conflict in the workplace. As a manager of human resource, you need
empathetic skills to ensure you understand where the person is coming from before you make
any judgment
FUNCTIONS OF HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
✓Recruitment and Selection: Recruitment is the process of captivating, screening, and selecting
potential and qualified candidates based on objective criteria for a particular job
✓Orientation: this helps the employee to know his assigned duties and his exact job
description, and the relationship of position to other positions in the organization. Employee
orientation program should include the objectives and goals of the organization and how the
employee can help to achieve the long-term and short-term goals of the organization.
✓Maintaining Good Working Conditions: It is the responsibility of the human resource
management to provide good working conditions to the employees, and make them
comfortable in the workplace
✓Managing Employee Relations: it is the function of the HR to organize activities which will
help employees to know each other at the personal and professional level. Well-planned
employee relations will promote a healthy and balanced relation between the employee and
the employer. It is the key for the organization to be successful.
✓Training and Development: Training and development are the indispensable functions of
human resource management. It is the attempt to improve the current or future performance of
an employee by increasing the ability of an employee through educating and increasing one’s
skills or knowledge in the particular subject.
