Parthians

The Parthians ruled over a small portion of northwestern India for about 200 years in the first century AD. They were of Persian descent and described as "Pahlavas" in Sanskrit texts. Their most renowned king was Gondopherenes during whose rule in 20-45 AD, Christianity was propagated in India by St. Thomas. Their influence can be seen in the Greco-Iranian style of Gandhara art and constructions like the Buddhist monastery Takht-i-Bahl in Mardan, Pakistan. Major records were written in Parthia and the Parthian civilization was described as advanced by the Chinese explorer Zang Qian. The Parthian dynasty ended in the second half of the 1st century
