The Printing Industry uses a number of petrochemical intermediaries for their end products. It
is largely dependent on the petrochemical industry for it supply of inventory.

Petrochemicals are one of the industries of the future since it provides a wide array of
intermediary products for use in manufacturing of many end use commodities. Many of our
daily use products are the made out of basic materials derived from petrochemicals. Different
industries use several petrochemical intermediaries as raw materials and as products which
aid manufacturing process.

The Printing Industry use a lot of products derived from the petrochemicals to facilitate the
process of printing. Many petrochemical products like solvents, inks, paints, grease removers,
acids, etc are used extensively in the printing industry.

The petrochemicals used in Printing industry:-

 Benzene is one of the major petrochemicals used in the printing. It is used as a solvent
for ink solutions and also as a cleaning agent for the machines.
 Toluene is another important petrochemical which is widely used as a solvent in the
printing industry Xylem is a mixed isomer. This petrochemical used in the
manufacturing of paints & paint remover.
 Trichloroethane is an important petrochemical used for cleaning and removing grease
from metal surfaces.
 Dichloromethane is extensively used as a paint remover.
 Methyl Isobutyl Ketone (MIBK) is one of the important solvents used in printing
industry.
 1, 1, 1-Trichloroethane (TCA) is a petrochemical which is used as a solvent for inks.
 Ethylene Glycol is an important petrochemical used in the manufacturing of ink.
 Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) is also a solvent used in ink solutions.
 Glycol Ethers is also used as a solvent in the printing industry.
 Isopropyl Alcohol a chemical which is noted for its usage in the printing industry as a
cleanser and solvent.

PRODUCTION PROCESS

Step 1: Raw material receipt

The raw materials procured are the different types of printing sheets they are
procured from renewed manufactures.

Step 2: Material inspection

On receipt of materials, the same is given for inspection as for inspection plan.
Inspection is carried out by production in charge. If the materials is rejected the sup layer is
advised to collect back the materials. Even the materials is accepted and taken into stack then
stack register in updated.

Step 3: storage

In charge stores signs against signs against the entry stock stock register which
indicates the approval of receipt of material. The raw material are stored in identify location.

Step 4:

Based on the load chart the raw material is mixed and fed into the machine through the
hopper.

Step 5: Blown extrusion processing

The machine preparation is carried out by the operator and setting of the machine is
done as pet work instruction and operation. Preparation of the machine is verified by shift in
charge and checks on the initial product specification. The processing is done as per
following:

A. The process involves resign graduals web though a hopper into on in extruder.
Temperature main tend 160 degree to 220 degree c.

B. Heat and friction converts the pellets to a melt which is forced through an annular,
ring shaped die to from a tube. The tube is inflated to increase its diameter and decrease
the film gauge and at the same time is drawn away from the die, also the decrease its
gauge. The bubble is flattened by collapsing frames, drew an through hip rolls.

29
ADHIYAMAAN COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING
Organization Study SJS ENTERPRISES PVT LTD

Step 6: contra treatment

Tube is then drawn through a corona treated where the film is treated to have required
treatment levels and drown through idler rolls of firm.

Step 7: Stage inspection

Operator regularly inspects the width and thickness of the firm using the celebrated
thickness gauge matter. Supervisor inspects the gauge of the roles on an hourly bases and
recon in the stage inspection in case product is not as per the specification, correction are
carried out co the machine. After correction of the machine, the output is again dimensional
opacity, treatment active the firm is found untreated it is again passed stored separately. Roles
are identified in the basis of identification cide/slip. Rolls are packed with HM-hope sheet
and store in identification location.

Step 8: slitting

Rolls are into required sixes and quantity. Before removing the rol from the slitting
machine, a sample is cut and inspected and rolls are packman with bubble sheet.

Cutting and sealing:

Setting of the cutting and sealing machines is by the operator according to the
products to be cut and sealed. The bags are collected as they come out of the machine and are
made into bundles as per to bundle size.

Step 9: final inspection

Again inspection for visual, dimensional, opacity, dart, mechanical properties. And
treatments are tested.

Step 10: packing

The packing of the product are done as per the work instructions for packing and
dispatch. Any specific units of; asking if instructed by customer, is followed. Rolls are first
packed with Hm-Hope sheet then a bubbled sheet and finally are wrapped with a shrink film.

Step 11: Dispatch

On receipt from in charge quality assurance rolls re packed and dispatched.

Quality assurance
It is small group of employees in the same work area or doing similarly who voluntary
meet regularly for about an hour every day to identify analyses and resolve work related
problems not only to improve quality productivity and the total performance of the
organization but also to enrich the quality of work life of employees there is a misconception
that quality circles and task forces are one and the same but the same but the quality circle is
not a task force and the former is broader than the latter

A task force is a group of most skilled employees selected and appointed by the
management engaged in various function with an orientation to problem-solving quality
circles involves people in solving problems and tap their brain power effectively

described below

Receiving inspection:
Receiving inspection is performed on incoming polyethylene granules master- batch packing
material and spares by considering COA and raw material specific requirement

Do not have facility to test raw material parameters such as density and test MFI certificate of
analysis from the supplier is referred

Final inspection of raw material visually is carried out at the manufacture stage product
which do not conform to requirement are rejected and kept separate.

No material is cleared for further production without passing through the inspection as
mention in the inspection plan.
