Corruption is considered a destroyer not just of human prosperity but people’s chance
to grow and be better. It undermines a government’s revenue which limits its capability
to lessen or even eradicate poverty.
Good morning everyone.
For today’s flag raising ceremony, we will be hosted by:
The Office of the Liga ng mga Barangay

At this moment, let me give you some information about CORRUPTION and
INTERNATIONAL ANTI-CORRUPTION DAY.
Corruption is an issue that affects all countries around the world. Corruption undermines
democracy, creates unstable governments, and sets countries back economically.
Corruption comes in various forms such as bribery, law-breaking without dealing with
the consequences in a fair manner, unfairly amending election processes and results,
and covering mistakes or silencing whistleblowers.
With this, International Anti-corruption Day was launched on October 9th 2003 by the
General Assembly of the United Nations as a way of raising awareness of corruption
and highlighting the role of the United Nations Convention against Corruption in
combating and preventing it.
The official reason given by the UN for creating this day is that it was “concerned about
the seriousness of problems and threats posed by corruption to the stability and security
of societies, undermining the institutions and values of democracy, ethical
values and justice and jeopardizing sustainable development and the rule of law”.
International Anti-Corruption Day is a global observance and not a public holiday. Some
of the ways in which governments around the world, private businesses, non-
governmental organisations, the media and the general public can get involved are by
organising creative activities, reporting incidents of corruption, using the UN’s anti-
corruption logo on publications and at events, and spreading the message through
social networks such as Twitter and Facebook.
Just sharing something on Facebook or Twitter may not seem like much of anything, but
in today’s modern time, we know social media can indeed play an enormous role in
bettering the world.
Yes – corruption could be one of the biggest tragedies of mankind for the simple reason
that it is ongoing and extremely difficult to combat, forcing the poor into ever more
hopeless conditions while the select few in power get ever richer and more powerful.
However, as active citizens of this country, as soon as we start to change our attitude
towards corruption, signs of growing intolerance toward corruption may eventually
manifest.
Just like what US. President-elect Joe Biden have said, “Fighting corruption is not just
good governance. It’s self-defense. It’s patriotism.”
At this juncture, let’s give time for some ANNOUNCEMENTS from the different offices.
Let us all again stand for the singing of Awit ng Serbisyo Sibil.
To conclude this flag raising ceremony, may I request our Municipal Mayor, HON.
MACARIO N. NAPULAN, for his message.
May I remind the next sponsors of flag raising ceremony:
On December 14, 2020, the Philippine Postal Corporation and Miagao Water
District with the theme “Month of Overseas Filipinos”; and,
On December 21, 2020, the Office of the Municipal Administrator and Human
Resource and Management Office with the theme “Spirit of Giving”.
This ends our program for this morning. Thank you very much and have a great working
day ahead.
