Stulz-Systems Air Cooled Condenser
a) Air-cooled System („A“)
The system consits of the CRAC unit (incl.
compressor, expansion device and evaporator –
„open“ refrigerant circuit), the external air-cooled
condenser and the connecting refrigerant
pipework.
Application:
• Small and medium size server rooms and/or data-
centres.
• Most economical system for shorter distances
between indoor A/C-unit and outdoor condenser
(low investment costs).
CRAC unit Liquid line
• Note: Long pipe run and poor installation can lead
to problems with the oil return and a high risk of
damaging the compressor. Discharge line
• If the ambient conditions do not allow free-cooling
solutions.
• If water is not allowed inside the data-centre.

Stulz-Systems Dry-cooler / Cooling Tower
b) Glycol-cooled System („G“)
Return
The system consits of the CRAC unit (incl. water
compressor, expansion device, evaporator and
plate condenser – „closed“ refrigerant circuit),
an external dry-cooler or cooling tower, at least
one pump and the connecting water pipework.
Application:
• Small and medium size server rooms and/or
data-centres.
• For longer distances between A/C-unit and CRAC unit(s)
dry-cooler / cooling tower.
• Dry-cooler / cooling tower can be installed Pump
lower than the A/C-unit.
Supply water
• If local standards or laws restrict the maximum
allowable refrigerant charge per circuit.
• For more than one unit in one water loop.

c) Glycol-cooled Economy System („GE“)
Return
This hybrid cooling system consits of the water
CRAC unit (incl. compressor, expansion
device, evaporator and plate condenser –
„closed refrigerant circuit“ plus an additional
free-cooling coil), an external dry-cooler, at
least one pump and the connecting water
pipework.
Application:
• Small and medium size server rooms and/or
CRAC unit(s)
data-centres.
• Energy saving system especially for temperate
climate zones. Supply water Pump
• The energy saving is achieved due to reduced
compressor operation times.
• More than one unit can be connected in one
water loop.

Stulz-Systems Chiller
d) Chilled Water System („CW“)
The cooling system consists of the CRAC
unit (air-to-water heat exchanger only), an
external chilled water production (chiller),
pump(s) and the connecting water pipework.
Application:
• Medium size and large data-centres.
• Most economical system for large
installations due to less effort for the pipe CRAC unit(s)
work (one water loop).
Return
• Centralized building chiller and pump Supply water water
plant necessary.
• Different free-cooling concepts available
for the chilled water production.

Stulz-Systems Chiller Air Cooled Condenser
e) Air-Cooled System / Chilled Water
System („ACW“)
Combination of air-cooled system and
chilled water system in one unit.
Application:
• Medium size and large data-centres.
• Integrated cooling redundancy for safe
operation (TIER III/IV).
• Add-on cooling capacity for heat load
peaks possible. CRAC unit(s) Return

• Ideal for office buildings with already Supply
existing (oversized) chilled water plant. water Liquid line
• Potential to minimize initial investment. Discharge line
• Energy saving system due to shut-down
of the central chiller on weekend/night.

g) Chilled Water System / Chilled
Water System („CW2“)
Two independent CW-circuits integrated in
one unit.
Application:
• Medium size and large data-centres.
• Especially for large installations less
effort for the pipe work.
• Integrated redundancy for a high level
safety concept (TIER III/IV). CRAC unit(s)
