Use the X Using the visual art platform of Canva, I was able to use
expressive arts as expressive arts as a mode of expression. I crafted
a mode of inquiry mood boards, visual journeys, and historical timelines
or expression of artists by manipulating a completely new graphic
design program. Using alien technology allowed me to
use my artistic abilities in a new and challenging way.

Demonstrate X In my nursing management class, I gained the

leadership, knowledge and understanding of what makes a great
negotiation, leader. I focused on things that were specific to my
relational, and field and career and learned how to use the skills on
consensus skills the unit floor.

Use technological X I was asked to access information that applied to my

skills to access coursework and apply it to my career in various
information, courses. I learned how to interpret what I found
organize through research and effectively use that new
knowledge, and knowledge in my everyday workplace setting.
communicate.

Propose new X The main project in my management leadership course

solutions to was finding a quality improvement project that I could
current issues enhance on the hospital unit. My idea would change
one of the current policies, but the data that I obtained
supported having the administration consider making
the changes that my research found. It isn't always
about implementing something new but improving the
tasks we are already doing and finding more efficient
ways.

Express X In my Global Nursing course, I was given a topic to

arguments or argue different from the values I held. This was a
main points challenge for me as the topic was something I consider
clearly, in written myself to be passionate about. Still, it allowed me to
and oral research another viewpoint different than my own, to
communication the point of convincing someone like myself of a new
perspective. While it didn't change my opinion, I
gained a deeper understanding of the topic.

Transfer X In my coursework and clinical time at WCCC, we were

knowledge and trained in basic nursing skills. It is hard to imagine what
values into sound that will look like once you hit the hospital floor.
decision making Practicing with plastic people, role-playing, and
computer simulations can only get you far. Being able
to take these skills learned in these simulation labs and
apply them to real people at the bedside was where
the transfer of knowledge occurred. I was able to take
what I had learned in the simulations and alter the
needs to that of the patients that I was taking care of
on the unit.

Communicate in X Out of all of the courses I took, from anatomy and

a second physiology to religion and nursing, my language courses
language at the gave me the most challenging time. I struggled the entire
introductory way through these two courses. I always wanted to learn
college level Spanish, so this was the language that I chose to take.
After the first course, I regretted it. I would never
recommend taking an online course to learn a new
language. By the time the first course was over, the in-
person classes were full, and I could not take Spanish level
two in person. I had two different instructors with two
different teaching styles for each class, and I was unsure if I
would make it through. While I know what the words
mean and can write and use them in basic sentences, I am
uncertain of their pronunciation. I say them in my head
while learning them, but that is far from how any native
would use them. I would have instead taken any other
course over a second language. If given the opportunity
again, I would have taken sign language.

Analyze the X My two western culture courses taught me more in 16

impact of history, weeks than I learned in elementary school through high
geography, and school. History was always a boring subject, and I found no
socio-cultural use learning about what happened before today. By
dynamics on examining and learning about the histories of western
global cultures, I was able to understand so much more than I
interactions from had before. Wars, politics, and geography finally started to
a variety of make more sense, and I was able to have conversations
disciplinary about previously foreign topics.
perspectives

Analyze current X I took three different religious courses during my time at

and historical SHU. In each of these courses, I grew spiritually and
events through intellectually. As indicated before, I was completely limited
the lens of in my knowledge before these courses, and I could finally
spirituality and make sense of what I lacked before. Not only was the
faith proven history of each religion covered, but also the
aspects of each religion that theologists questioned:
different stories that may not have been accurate and
inconsistencies within the Bible itself. I was appreciative of
the openness and willingness of each of these professors
to listen, guide, and answer questions that my classmates
and I had to understand better what was being taught.

Assess privilege X In the Islam course that I took, I was able to see the
and oppression oppression of Muslims through a lens that was crafted by a
from the political agenda. A picture that was imagined and sold to
perspective of the people as a reason for war, and a given a face and an
culture, race, image to hate. It was an intentional and dishonest move to
class, and gender protect the interests of those financially profiting off of the
hate and division. A thorough education can make all of
the difference when discussing sensitive subjects. An open
and welcoming environment to discuss these topics is
precisely how we will change our world. Not only must we
learn about each other, but we must expose ourselves to
the truth. We must be vulnerable to grow, and I will
forever be thankful for this course.

Generate and X In my statistics course, I was able to interpret data in a

analyze numerical way that I never thought I would do. I was always
and scientific data interested in statistics but never understood the data
included in most of the research studies that I read until
I took this course. Not only was I able to interpret this
information, but I was able to understand it and how it
is used to convince others. I think samples, polling, and
data provided in papers now make sense. I can
determine if the data given is credible or if it is being
used as a selling point for the message being delivered.

Locate and X I had so many questions regarding COVID and the

analyze science that surrounded it. I was fortunate enough to be
expressive media taking classes related to current issues that we as a
to gain global community are addressing at the same time. The
information or research on the subjects was time-sensitive, and it was
comprehend the all relevant to work, school, and life in the real world.
significance of an The topics that I researched and covered allowed me to
issue or an event have an educational basis for having conversations with
others in my field, family, and community.

Organize and X In my global health nursing course, I learned so much

manage more than I had anticipated on learning. Not only did we
resources in a cover the obligations of the system, but I learned so
creative way to much more about finding credible sources to use for
achieve impact research and how to cite efficiently and effectively that I
had never understood before. I gained confidence in my
abilities but not before a sharp learning curve.

Find, evaluate, X This is applicable in many of my classes, from research,

and apply science courses, and clinical. Education is a well-
information. rounded, never-ending process that requires us to learn,
evaluate, and apply.

Interpret X Finding what makes good qualitative information is

quantitative and harder to find than I imagined. Quantitative data drives
qualitative most of the data and research that is commonly seen.
information to Qualitative data is learning how to improve something
present a logical that we are already doing and testing if the quality
argument based improvements are working. Supporting qualitative data
on supporting has more opportunities to have bias and is harder to
data prove when doing research.

Demonstrate X In my biomedical ethics course, we had the opportunity to

ethical decision- discuss and advocate for topics we were passionate about.
making We were given a chance to challenge each other and
grounded in provide sources that agreed with our positions on each
philosophical topic. The field of medicine holds many ethical issues that
inquiry should be approached with respect and dignity no matter
your stance. When it comes to treatment, it is my opinion
that we are to provide the best care that is patient-
centered, not based on personal opinions.

Apply Catholic X Finally, understanding Catholic social teaching and the

social teaching core values of social issues was so near and dear to my
to the analysis of heart. Topics that I was already passionate about were
contemporary covered, and we were given opportunities to discuss ways
social issues to make changes and improve our world for a better
tomorrow. Even though these issues were already very
near and dear to my heart, the Catholic social teaching
aspects and elements made it feel like I finally understood
it full circle.

Recognize the X We must learn about others and their beliefs to gain a
value of diverse deeper understanding of what drives and motivates each
spiritual and of us. I have gained so much knowledge about religions,
religious cultures, and practices than I could have ever imagined.
perspectives This understanding allows me to educate my children and
have tremendous respect and appreciation for those
around me.
Integrate the X Charity has always been a core part of who I am. I live
practice of simplistically, don't have great things, and don't live a
charity with the lavish lifestyle. I try to always give to those in need and not
skill of justice hold a bias against something I don't understand. Learning
about Catholic values and justice made it easy to align my
core values to those of the Catholic faith. Through my
work and the values that I hold, charity comes naturally.
We must serve each other and those that need it the most.

Exercise X Education will never be useless, and there will never be a

responsible point in one's life when it is not helpful. I consider myself a
freedom and lifelong learner and value the education given to me
civic during my time at SHU. My courses taught me to be an
engagement active voice to those who need it, seek out information
based on an when it is not known, and challenge others attempting to
informed value take rights away from others. The key to education is using
system it to help others, teach others who do not know, and
improve things that desperately need change.
