School Officer-In Charge
Wawa National High School

Dear Ma’am,

Greetings!
In fulfillment of one of our project objectives, we want to promote and raise awareness
about proper hand hygiene for the Grade 7 to 10 students. As health advocates, we would
like to request your permission and support to conduct a handwashing project entitled
“Project “CarE WasH”. A need has been identified based on the recently raising number of
COVID cases in the city.

While all these efforts to promote handwashing are happening in the name of COVID-
19, it will also have an impact on the spread of many other deadly diseases. When this
pandemic is over, maintaining the progress made could save countless lives every year from
diseases like cholera, typhoid and pneumonia. Noted that practice of hand hygiene in all
settings and sectors is essential not only to preventing the spread of COVID-19 and other
infectious diseases, and also for overall health and well-being.

It will be important for all students to show concern and contribute with our fight
against the spread of COVID-19.
The sessions will take place in all subjects during teacher’s scheduled time starting
February until April.

Your consideration will be highly appreciated. We look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you very much and God Bless!

VI. Rationale:

The spread of COVID 19 is ongoing for about a year in our country. We may not yet have
vaccines or treatments against COVID 19, but there is one powerful combination that can
help stop the spread of the virus, which many of us already have access to: soap and water.

With people advised to observe physical distancing and good hygiene habits amidst the
pandemic, health experts have constantly reminded that the simple practice of handwashing
with soap and clean water is also one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of
germs and viruses.

The COVID-19 outbreak has overly emphasized the importance of handwashing with soap
to reduce the spread of the virus. Raising awareness about how washing hands prevents
illnesses and spread of infections to others. Cleaning hands with soap and water removes
germs from multiple sources. Handwashing helps battle the rise in antibiotic resistance.

According to the World Health Organization, good hand hygiene could reduce cases of
respiratory diseases by 20%, and diarrhea by 30%. That means it has potential to have a
huge impact on the spread of the coronavirus.

Based on the POLICY OBJECTIVE FOR HYGIENE, DepEd ORDER NO. 10, S. 2016: “All
learners in school shall perform supervised daily group handwashing with soap and
toothbrushing with fluoride, while a system and support mechanism for effective menstrual
hygiene management shall be ensured in all schools” but because of the suspended face to
face classes Wawa NHS would like to continue promoting good hygiene to students even in
the phase of distance learning.

In line with this, Wawa NHS aims to raise awareness and promote hand hygiene to its
stakeholders on how we can all contribute for the fight against the spread of the corona
virus. This project will help stress the need to have knowledge about the proper
handwashing and how necessary it is during this trying times. It only takes one person to
infect the whole community and it can be prevented if everyone will care enough to wash
their hands.

Wawa National High School School is supporting this program of the government,
thus the WinS coordinator, TWG and teachers collaborated to come up with activities and
programs that will be a great help in promoting proper hand washing.

VII. Objectives:

At the end of the activity, the participants shall be able to :

 Promote handwashing at home.

 Disseminate information about proper hygiene.

 Raise awareness and concern about the effect of proper handwashing

during this time of pandemic.
 Form a habit of handwashing.

VIII. Project Description:

A daily monitoring of handwashing with teachers and parents/guardian

assistance during Cell-phone Assisted Instruction, Video Call and conduct
monitoring during home visitation periods. Students will be exposed to
innovative printed handwashing reminder that they can post at home or if they
have internet connection, the materials will be disseminated online that will
serve as a daily reminder to students. Students must have the initiative to
perform the handwashing activity through an engaging tool that will raise and
promote awareness of proper handwashing. Learner’s handwashing practice will
be monitored twice a day by each subject teacher that will attend to them each
day while the WinS coordinator will continue to remind on group chats and txt
message on weekends and holidays to maintain continuity for 30 days to form a
habit. A 20 second proper handwashing must be documented by the students
who have available resources as part of monitoring and documentation.

IX. Expected Outputs:

 Monitoring
 Documentation

X. Monitoring and Documentation:

The project will be over all managed by the WinS Coordinator.

The students will be instructed to wash their hands by following the printed
materials to be distributed to each student. The handwashing activity at home will be
monitored by the subject teachers and the WinS Coordinator in their class monitoring
each day. Monitoring of handwashing activity spreadsheet will be shared to all
teachers to track the students who participates in the activity. Photos and videos will
be required to be sent for those who have the resources, and it will be compiled for
documentation.
