My Reflective Journal – Week 9
November 15, 2021
On this day, I have no scheduled observation for my assigned class. The beauty of not
having a class is that I focus on the other things and work on the requirement needed to finish
by December. I continue to answer my FS Book 1 ‘though I have not yet completed the first
book I went to book 2. While I’m waiting for the answer of my resource teacher in the compiled
questions I made, I make a draft and collect resources I needed in my action research plan.
When I send the questions to my resource teacher, she was surprised at the amount she
needed to answer. I have been confused about some things about action research, and other
content in the book. I think I needed more time to understand and become familiar with that.
The essence of having some knowledge about what you must do is important especially
in research because it’s needed complex and analytic skills to undergo different methods. The
try and error method should maximize to complete and make an outcome that can implement
next semester.
November 16, 2021
I have no schedule of observation for today and just like when I have no class, I answer my FS
book even one page only. That one page every day is still important to be able to finish it on time. I
answer the topic of selecting appropriate teaching strategies. This topic discusses what is the teaching
strategies used by the teacher and what level of participation of students reflect on that. There will be
guiding principles in using teaching strategies. The learning should be an active process where the
students participate actively in the class. the more active the student is, the more they can learn.

I believe that students should actively participate in class to facilitate learning. Teachers should
adapt their teaching methods to the learning styles of their students because if they start with
challenging questions that don't match the students' thinking levels, there will be no learning. I
understood that every student has a unique learning and thinking style, and as a teacher, you must get
to know each of your students from head to toe in order to decide the most effective teaching methods
and plan.

November 17, 2021

This day marked that we have only one month to finish our FS book, however, there were so
many topics and lessons I need to accomplish. In addition to that is our action research proposal, but I
observe a few problems regarding on learning of students and the teaching strategies of my resource
teacher. The engagement of students in the classroom is the primary concern that needs solutions. I
think the teaching strategy of my RT does not apply to all of her students but is a bit effective however,
needs modification. The modification I want to develop is having gamification of content that students
can participate in and answer the questions regarding the topic. I do not attend the class today because
of power interruption but I tell Ma’am Quilang yesterday and she said that it’s okay with that. Tomorrow
is the first meeting and observation for the week, after 2 weeks of not having a class, I feel new again in
the class observation to my RT and students. Because I want my day productive even there is no power
supply, I work and finished two topics in book 2 that are all about instructional planning.

I realized that I need time management to accomplish all of my requirements. This is a challenge
for me that I need to overcome so that I continue my practice teaching next semester. This will help me
to develop my character and behavior as a future teacher to adapt and survive whatever the challenges
are.

November 18, 2021

It’s been two weeks when the last time I observed class, I feel shy and nervous just like on the
first day of our deployment. Today I observed the class of 9-Moriah, and she starts with a short prayer
before proceeding to the lesson proper. She thanks me for the presentation I made for this topic which
is demand and later is about supply. I have made a simple ice breaker, but she didn’t yet use it. I feel
happy because she didn’t comment negatively on my PowerPoint and she’s thankful for that. She also
announced whose Performance Task is the best based on my scoring. Before the proper closure in the
class, Ma’am Quilang lost his internet connection and assigned me to dismiss the class and check for
attendance. I made a short communication to the students asking them to open their camera and also
asking if they are all okay, like how’s the exam last week because last week is their examination. In the
afternoon I finished transferring the Screenshot of the students in my class record and the evening, I
remember that Ma’am Quilang ask me to transfer my PPT to word documents because they required to
have a document needed to publish on canvas fortunately, I finished and ready to send to my RT.

As the deadline comes near, I feel way more difficult and pressured to finish it on time. The
activities assigned to me is overlapping that need to finish immediately. However, I feel happy with my
PowerPoint presentations because it was clear and creatively designed and recognized by my resource
teacher. I think that I should celebrate those little things for being able to continue that work and have a
passion for what I’m doing and because they are appreciating your effort, that little things can
determine your happiness.

November 19, 2021

On this day we start 15 minutes early on the scheduled time. My Resource Teacher announced
important things like who is the best PT (performance Task) and the result of the Unit Test before we
proceed to lesson proper. However, the result of the Unit test does not announce yet because the class
record of my RT was left at school, and said she post it later. My RT discusses the topic of demand and
six factors affecting demand. Her strategy was to give chances to everyone to participate in the class
that does not yet participate in her class. although she uses that, few students answer her questions.
The thing the students do is attend the class. As I think of that, something pop-up in my mind that why
don’t we should group students in presenting, participating, and answering on the class discussion? In
that method, we ensure the participation and engagement of all students but the problem of that is
time-consuming, and the 1-hour session is not sufficient.

This everyday experience that not all students participate in the class or even if you ask directly is there
is no response from them, it is not always the case that the teacher should modify her strategy to cope
up with those problems but also on students’ side. I realized that the best thing to do is give them an
activity that gets their attention from the start, during, and after the discussion so that they were
engaged and learn more. The problem is that they are in their comfort zone so the engagement is not
high, they can do whatever because he/she does not see it on the camera but because of activity from
start to finish, they are required to work and participate.
