Research Title Proposal Example

This document proposes a research study on the impacts of virtual learning education and the pedagogical methods of tourism professors. It notes that the COVID-19 pandemic forced universities to adopt virtual learning, changing teaching methods. The study aims to assess how virtual learning has affected different teaching approaches in tourism management and faculty views on its impact. It identifies gaps in literature around faculty concerns about student success and cheating online. The research questions examine how virtual learning has changed pedagogical methods, teaching approaches used, and faculty perspectives on its influence.

Research Title (1): Perceptions on the Effectiveness of Virtual Internships in Tourism and
Hospitality Education

Rationale of the Study

(Provide brief background about the topic. Include related literature with in-text citation in
APA Format, to support the study and the reason of conducting such research. Mention
research gap. Provide the main objective of the study and the specific research questions that
you want to investigate.)

Include References.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) issued a memorandum order containing the
guidelines in the implementation of flexible learning (CHED CMO 04, 2020). Indicated in the
said CMO are the components of the various learning modalities that include technology,
content/learning materials, and evaluation/assessment, which the current study will evaluate,
together with the perceptions of teachers and students in the implementation of virtual
internships. According to Ruggiero & Boehm (2021), higher educational institutions are
beginning to recognize the value of virtual internships as valid experiential learning opportunities
for acquiring professional skills and competencies. On the other hand, Bilsland, et al. (2020)
mentioned about the special challenges in the delivery of internship experience through virtual
channels giving emphasis on factors such as the learning environment, the development of skills,
as well as the available tools used in the virtual environment.

Further, in the tourism and hospitality industry, the post-COVID-19 will inevitably change the
system specifically in service encounters and delivery (Bilsland et al., 2020; Girdhari, 2020b)
thus, manpower skills and competencies must also step up. With a need to focus on prioritizing
safety for guests and minimizing interaction with hotel staff, Ivan (2020) suggests hotels should
make use of digital innovation, implementing technology such as: the IOT (internet of things,
utilizing technology to control lighting, room temperature, and other room systems); artificial
intelligence; augmented reality, such as virtual tours across the hotel to familiarize guests with
facilities; recognition technology that utilizes biometric authentication; and Chatbot (interaction
with artificial intelligence through chat displays). Virtual reality technology is increasingly used
in hospitality and tourism. However, despite the decreasing costs and availability of virtual
reality, virtual internships have not been widely adopted, although they have been recognized as
potentially valuable to hospitality and tourism students (Barron & Henderson, 2002).

Therefore, to determine the effectiveness of the implementation of virtual internship, there is a

compelling need to fill an obvious gap in the literature related to the subject of the study and the
results thereof is believed to contribute to the effective learning experience on virtual internships
implemented by the HEIs

The study aims to examine the effectiveness of the teaching and learning modalities being
implemented on virtual internships in tourism and hospitality to serve as input to effective
learning experience. Specifically, the study will answer the following research questions:

1. What are the teaching and learning modalities in flexible learning being implemented on
virtual internships?
2. What are the perceptions of the teachers and the students in the implementation of the
teaching and learning modalities on virtual internships?
3. How does the tourism and hospitality industry view the effectiveness of virtual
internships?

2. An insight in the future: The Perception of Virtual Tourism Students

applying Online-Learning Practices in Tourism Industry.

Research Title (1): Output-based Performance: Impacts of virtual learning education and
pedagogical methods of tourism professor.
Rationale of the Study

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was first identified in December 2019

(Zhai & Du, 2020), Globally and dramatically spreading. The disease
unexpected spread had a significant impact on all elements of university
operations, particularly teaching and learning. By March 18, 2020, 107
countries have implemented nationwide school closures in response to the
pandemic (Viner et al., 2020). The outbreak of the epidemic has forced all
academic staff to seek for effective and technical ways to carry out teaching
and learning, which this study will assess the affect of virtual learning on teaching methods
of different branches in the faculty of tourism management and their different methods of
teaching in this flexible learning. According to the international Journal of Indian Psychology,
face-to-face classroom
Positive
Oppositely, Wingo, N. P., Ivankova, N. V., & Moss, J. A. (2017) mentioned concerns among faculty
regarding their perceived barriers to student success in online classes. Indicated in that faculties, are
concerned about their ability to help students thrive in an online learning environment and another
serious concern among faculty teaching online has been the potential for students to cheat.

E Learning

. Effective online teachers facilitate, connect, lead, and work in synchrony with students
to obtain indicators of quality such as student success, student improvement over time,
and student application of knowledge to the professional role.
