Exercise 1: Rewrite each statement using used to or use to.


Example 1: I used to live in Managua, but now I live in Masaya.
Example 2: I didn’t use to live in Masaya, but now I do.

1 I lived in Chicago, but now I live in New York.


I didn't live in New York,but now I do.
2 I didn't like Chinese food, but now I do.
I didn't use to like Chinese food,but now I like it.
3 Jade went to school at the Institute of Art.
Jade used to go to school,but now She doesn't
4 My brother and his wife lived in the apartment upstairs.
My brother and his wife used to live in the apartment upstairs,but now they don't
5 Jake worked at the post office, but now he's a teacher.
Jake didn't use to be a teacher,but now he is a teacher.
6 My friend Alison and I ate dinner together every Saturday.
My friend Alison and I didn't use to eat together,but now We do.
7 They played tennis every Sunday with their friends.
They didn't used to play tennis,but now They do.
8 I didn't speak Spanish when I was younger, but now I do.
I didn't use to talk in Spanish,but now I do.

Exercise 2: Write statements with used to or use to. Use contractions when possible.
Example:
1. The Empire State Building / be / the tallest building in the world.
The Empire State Building is the tallest building in the world.
2. China / not have / one of the world's strongest economies.
China doesn't have one of the world's strongest economies.
3. People / not use / smartphones or tablets to visit the Internet.
People don't use smartphones or tablets to visit the internet.
4. People / write / letters to their friends and family.
People used to write letters to their friends and family
5. Brasilia / not be / the capital of Brazil.
Brasilia isn't the capital of Brazil
