GUIDELINES FOR REUSABLE PARTS AND
SALVAGE OPERATIONS OF LIFTERS
Visual Inspection of Lifters
Introduction :
This guideline enables dealers and their customers to benefit from cost reductions made possible through an
established parts reusability and salvage program. This guideline and other applicable guidelines should be used
to determine if the roller lifters can be used again. A lifter will create a specific wear pattern on the camshaft lobe.
Each lifter and each camshaft lobe will have a similar wear pattern at the point of contact. Used lifters should be
installed in the original bores and the original orientation during assembly. If this practice is not followed, the
difference in wear patterns can result in a faster rate of wear or failure. To ensure proper assembly, mark each
lifter during disassembly for positive identification of the correct location and orientation during assembly.
Corrosion
Reuse the lifter after polishing. Damage from rust
Do not reuse the lifter. This lifter has damage from corrosion to the roller
