Division Science Seminar-Workshop: Building Bridges in the New Normal

Call to Order Majella

We’d like to acknowledge from a distance our top management headed by our dynamic father of
the Schools Division of Ilocos Sur, our Schools Division Superintendent, Sir Jorge M. Reinante,
our equally-dynamic Asst. Schools Division Superintendent, Sir Nestor C. Heraṅa, our loving
mother, Chief Education Supervisor in the Curriculum Implementation Division, Ma’am Maria
Salome R. Abero, our passionate brother, Chief Education Supervisor in the Schools Governance
and Operations Division, Sir Philip John Gregory G. Aldos, our supportive and kind Education
Program Supervisor I in Science, Ma’am Jovita B. De Castro, all other EPSs, Public Schools
District Supervisors, other SDO personnel, District and School Science Coordinators, Learning
Facilitators, technical team members, teachers, venue staff, friends, Ladies and gentlemen, a
pleasant morning to one and all.
The global COVID-19 pandemic has had huge disruptive effects on normal life, difficult as it Geoffrey
already was across the nation. For schools, students and parents, the impact of closed schools and
children stuck at home with little or no access to learning, the effect has been devastating. Experts
estimate that a whole year of learning could be lost, meaning a whole cohort of students could be
permanently lagging in their learning.

The crisis and the response to it has exposed weaknesses in educational systems, while creating Majella
opportunities to reshape school education to a new paradigm that is more resilient and robust.
Such crises are becoming increasingly likely with climate change, technological disruptions and
globalized connectivity.

We are now in the second phase of the New Normal and we need to be more prepared, innovative Geoffrey
and knowledgeable enough to address the needs of the children who are under our care. Science as
a learning area deals with facts and this needs not only theory but application. Great planning,
preparation, strong collaboration and partnership with each other will surely make a big
difference.

Ladies and Gentlemen, A pleasant morning once again and welcome to the Division Science
Seminar Workshop: Building Bridges in the New Normal. Our event for today will surely give us a
lot of learning about how we can address the gaps of the New Normal School Year. So please sit
down, relax and enjoy the rest of this 2-day event.

It is my delight to be standing in front of you today for this informative seminar-workshop. I am
your humble public servant and I’m also very happy to be accompanied by my supportive co-
emcee, Ma’am. Majella.

We hope you will find this program we have lined-up for you to be fruitful and engaging. Para sa
Bata at Para sa bayan, Science teachers’ reskilling and upskilling will surely pave the way to
Sulong EduKalidad!

Cabatu and her co-reactors. Mr. Jose Roy Burgos, Mr. Renz Rouen Suyat and Mr. Raffy Ricardos
Alveza.
