SUB TOPIC: Nouns
OBJECTIVES:
(1) With the use of definitions and examples, students will correctly identify common, proper
and abstract of nouns in given sentences.
(2) With the aid of a given list of collective nouns, students will complete sentences using the
most appropriate collective noun.
(3) With the help of given example, students will rewrite given sentences using the correct
possessive form of the phrases in bold.
Concept: Nouns are naming words and can be categorized under five different types of nouns.

Parts of Speech
Parts of Speech is a term in traditional grammar for eight categories into which words are
classified according to their functions in sentences.
There are eight Parts of Speech. They are:
1. Noun 8. Interjection
2. Verb
3. Pronoun
4. Adjective
5. Adverb
6. Conjunction
7. Preposition
NOUNS
Nouns are naming words. It is the name given to a person, place, animal or thing.
Examples: boy, dog, house, schoolyard, watch, book
A noun can also name a feeling.
Examples: happiness, sadness, hatred
There are many different types of nouns. These include:
1. Common Noun
2. Proper Noun
3. Collective Noun
4. Abstract Noun
5. Possessive Noun

Common A common noun is the name given to a person, boy, girl, school, table, cup,
