One of the most challenging goals perhaps, has been to simultaneously pursue my passion for dance
alongside academics . Hailing from a family of doctors coupled with the traditional Indian mindset, there
has always been a mental pressure to put academic excellence above “hobbies”.
Explain what dance means to you
As I parachuted from school to college, I decided to join the Indian and Western dance clubs in the
college, albeit against my parents wishes. With my major as Statistics and electives like Econometrics
and Advance calculus, I could tell that creating a balance between the two will be a difficult climb going
forward.
In the beginning, though I managed to attend my morning lectures along with Afternoon practices , but
soon I began skipping the morning ones. My training in Jazz and Contemporary took precedence over
everything; since I was new to these styles, I had to train rigorously to come on an equal footing as
others.
As the first year exam results rolled out my grades saw a downward trend from my regular 95% to a
shocking 68%. Compared to the amount of effort I used to put in school I knew this was bound to
happen.
To gain clarity on the marking scale, I requested my teachers for temporary access to data regarding the
grades of each student. With their permission, I drew up a descriptive statistics table to compare the
mean grade, variation in the data and the percentile scores with my own. The comparison left me in
despair. I’d almost decided to give up my dance training when one of my professors approached me
asking the reason behind my request. After I narrated my saga, she told me that the difficulty level will
only increase with each passing year. But also that if I continue my training it will help me inculcate
/imbibe qualities like perseverance and flexibility, which matter more in life than grades alone.
My Professor’s words inspired me to strike a balance between training and academics. As I chose not to
compromise with what I really wanted, through practice I gradually created a balance between the two
divergent fields. In time, my grades improved to such an extent that by last semester I was among the
class’s top 5 percentile.
Now, I have gained experiences from working in corporate, government and the nonprofit sectors
because of my adaptable and flexible attitude. This diverse range of experience has made sure that my
learning has always been steep.
Notes: in the last para discuss a lil more on what you learnt. Use some catchy phrases or a quote or
something. Talking about pushing your limits yet not sacrificing on what’s important to you. Maybe use
the analogy of the gym freak who made a great body, but missed out on the taste of good food. Maybe
use the word I want a full pallete over having one overflowing color.
Orange color for change
Green color for better word
Blue color for extra info

Hi there!
Winter is here and I am still in half sleeves. Unbelievable!
Yeah! Winters used to be in full-swing by this time of the year.
I’d never fathomed experiencing the effects of Climate Change in MY lifetime.
Changes are happening much faster than predicted.
And we’re still stuck in the blame game. On one hand, we complain about air quality, on the other, we
are not willing to give up our Cars even for short distances. Real hypocrites, I tell you!
Well that’s the trend these days, no one actually cares.
Fortunately No! Recently Larry Fink, the CEO of Blackrock, addressed this issue in a simple letter and
propelled changes with all the fortune 500 firms associated with them. So, some businesses have put
down their foot and are making a profound impact.
And how is all this relevant to you?
Well, I plan to work on similar lines and launch a consulting firm to help companies see significant long-
term value in being “green”. But before that I need a comprehensive understanding of the business
world and how AI can be incorporated in this field. For that, I’ve applied for a Business Analytics degree
from the University of Cincinnati this year.
Any specific reason as to why Cincinnati?
Students there are given opportunities to lead the Entrepreneurship and Business Analytics Research
centers. I also imagine sharing my vision for my consulting firm at CEC where I believe they will give me
the right platform to realise it.
Last line too cocky
