Hydraulics (Bsce-3) : Engr. Lawrence I. Habbiling, Me-Ce

This 4-unit lecture and 1-unit lab course on hydraulics covers fundamental principles including the continuity, energy, and momentum equations. Students will learn to apply these equations to problems involving fluid pressure, forces, flow velocity, flow rate, and more in closed conduits and open channels. The course aims to familiarize students with common fluid properties and flow measurement devices. By the end, students should be able to discuss key concepts, perform calculations, design and conduct a lab experiment, and interpret results. The course outline covers topics like hydrostatics, fluid flow, pipes and pipe networks, open channels, and flow measurements. Evaluation is based on midterm and final exams, as well as class participation.

HYDRAULICS (BSCE-3)

ENGR. LAWRENCE I. HABBILING, ME-CE

Professor

Course Description:
This course emphasizes the continuity equation, energy equation, and
momentum equation. Familiarization of the properties of common fluids is a
must in the study of hydraulics. It deals with the application of fundamental
principles to solve problems involving liquid pressure and corresponding
forces resulting from this pressure. Applications of appropriate equations in
performing calculations involving flow velocity, flow rate and forces exerted by
moving fluids in closed conduits and open channels are also emphasized in
this course as well as the familiarization and applications of flow measuring
devices.

No. of Units: 4 lecture units/1 laboratory unit (3 hours lab)

Course Outcomes:
At the end of the course, the students must be able to:
1. Discuss the different liquid properties that are involved in the determination
of pressure, forces and flow.
2. Discuss the continuity equation with reference to the principles of
conservation of mass, Energy equation with reference to the Euler
equation, and Momentum equation with reference to the 2nd Law of
newton on motion.
3. Perform calculations on the different theoretical applications in hydraulics.
4. Design laboratory experimental procedure, perform the procedure, and
interpret the result.
