EXERCISE 1

KNOW THE USER


The STI Website is a school website where people can know more about the information of the programs and
other important details. I noticed that on the webpage of STI was clearly addressing for the people who wants
to enroll, so they can fill up a form placed in the home page. The categories were clear and properly arranged
where the user can easily access it, since the page avoided the cluttered display. The programs or courses are
also included and can be browsed by the user to choose a suitable program for them. Lastly, the design was
creative and has pictures and videos to impress the user.

REDUCE MEMORY LOAD


The guest will surely not familiar in this website for his/her first visit or checking. So, the STI website
consistently placed the important menu buttons or tabs on the top of the page. While the user is currently
open any tabs or modules, the important buttons can still be accessed by simply hovering the cursor on it.
Aside from that, there is summarized information about the new learning model when you scrolled down the
page for additional info’s. These can really help the user to understand and recognize the importance of
the school.
STRIVE FOR CONSISTENCY
The design and colors in each layouts or boxes has variations per category so it will not confuse the user.
The fonts are readable and also have differences to categorized it accordingly in every modules or
information. The major theme of the website is consistent with the colors of Blue and Yellow. The
illustration of the students is in accordance of the program they are in and noticeable by the uniforms.
Overall, the consistency is can be simply distinguished.
AREA THAT NEEDS IMPROVEMENT
Based on my own observations, the webpage was convenient and easy to browse the entire functions.
Aside from those, I also noticed some parts that needs improvement which is the “Life @ STI” page. The
contents of the page were about the news and activities that happens in the school. I think the refinement
for this should have meet the consistency and to reduce memory load for the user. My suggestion is if
the contents will be sorted together according to its corresponding categories because I noticed that it is a
bit mixed up even though it has a label below each topic. Then, it can be much better if it is listed by
date to keep the reader updated.

IMPORTANCE OF THE PRINCIPLES OF HCI


The importance of the Principles of Human-Computer Interaction is to be efficient and helpful for the user.
The principles will define the ways on how these can be applied to our computing devices and to interact
with humans. Considering the principles in creating or visiting a website can lead to be interesting and
productive. The appropriate use of the design is one of the important things to be in mind when
developing a website to help attract consumers and give them satisfaction. The developer must implement
all the principles of HCI to produce a suitable website related to his/her subject.
