Knowledge
As we all know, any health-related course is not easy because we are the one who is responsible
for the life and death of the people. It is a lifetime of studying and process to understand what
purpose and role you are in the healthcare setting. Nursing educators guide knowledge to prepare
the nurses and develop a sense of its identity. With an increasing knowledge base, the nurses
now know can practice and apply the effective way to treat patients. However, nursing care is not
something that you can decide alone.
With the continuous lockdown, our limited face-to-face has been paused, which is why our
professor come up with the idea for us to still learn different procedures like IV catheter,
breastfeeding, and perineal care. Research and watching videos on the internet help us to have a
visualization of an actual setup. The IV catheter is used to draw blood samples, administer
medication, and fluids to the patient. Teaching breastfeeding for mothers to provide infants with
nutrition and other health benefits. And lastly is performing perineal care, which promotes
cleanliness and prevents infection to the patient.
Knowledge is the backbone of the nurse on how they can practice care to their patient. With this,
nurses can give interventions and strategies which result in a positive impact on their patients.
For me, I always want to care and provide help to those people who are in need. It fascinates me
how nurses can communicate by healing and be an inspiration to their patients that help them
adopt and have the treatment they deserve. It pushes me to study hard and learn to have the skills
they have, so I will be like them in the future. I know that this profession is a lot harder than I
expected because it is a lifetime study, but I also want to offer what I can give to my clients.

Skills
As a nursing student, I am working to be the woman who people turned to when they were hurt,
sick, weak, and the one who could provide care that might save a life. To become that person,
nursing students must be exposed to actual demonstrations to improve the skills that can enhance
better outcomes for their clients and assist that can make a difference in someone's life.
For our first return demonstration in the university, our professor guide and taught us how to
administer medication in different routes. We begin with the intramuscular drug. Intramuscular
injections are given to the patient since the absorption of the drug is distributed rapidly in the
body, unlike oral medications. Second, intradermal drugs. Intradermal injections are used to
identify the patient's allergies to a specific medication. It is very nerve-wracking to demonstrate
the procedure since it is my first time to practice what I read and watched only in books and the
internet. However, with the help of my classmates and professor, I completed the procedure. I
cannot say I perfectly aced the demo since it took me a few tries to form a bleb with my partner,
but it is satisfying to practice my skills live for me to improve.
On the next day, we are bombarded by our professor with different procedures, but I am not
complaining since it will be an addition to my knowledge. First is the Leopold maneuver. I
studied all night on how to perform the procedure, so when it is my turn to present, I am at ease
and comfortable answering and doing what is asked by the instructor. The second is surgical
scrubbing. The purpose of these is to sterilize the hands before any interaction inside the
operating room. I enjoyed this part so much since being a fan of medical series, it is always what
I imagined myself to be. Lastly is donning and doffing the personal protective equipment like
gloves, mask, face shield, and gown. The appropriate use of these PPE's will help prevent both
the healthcare providers and patient from contacting body fluids, respiratory droplets, and other
transmissible infections.
Attitude
It is safe to say that all of us are different. We have different personalities, but some of us clicked
and can understand each other. In healthcare settings, we will encounter such patients who are
difficult to interact with. We will deal with the support system of the patient and the patient
itself. There will be times that our intervention will be questioned by them even if we know to
ourselves that it will help improve patient health. However, as a professional, we must
understand and build patience for those who are in need. For example, after the delivery, the new
mother is sensitive and questions the need of giving breastfeed for their baby. As for you who is
assigned to the patient, you must inform and teach the mother to give lactation after 60 to 90
minutes of childbirth. Communicate effectively to the patient with respect, so they will be
comfortable cooperating with the intervention. As a nurse, we must evaluate what is good and
valuable to our patients and be respectful in every circumstance.
Overall, a lack of facts, empathy, morals, and respect for individuality may result in conflict and
misunderstanding in your client, hospital, and the community. Many important parties may

affect if one of the patterns is not present in your principle as a nurse because it might result in a
bigger problem. Therefore, as early as now, I am educated and practice to be professional.
Values
Keeping a healthy body is a must for everyone, especially in the situation we are currently in. It
is vital to deal with our conditions because our well-being and survival rate also rely upon our
recent event's vitality. For example, what I learned in doing perineal care is that it helps promote
cleanliness and prevents infection. If we are dealing with new mothers after birth, perineal care is
recommended by the healthcare providers. It is to assist in healing and become comfortable. If
left without proper hygiene, it can lead to complications affecting their bodies. As a nurse, we
must encourage our clients to practice perineal care. Explain to them that perineal care
necessitates the need for washing with the use of warm water, moistened washcloths, soap, and
dry towel. We must facilitate proper care to avoid introducing microorganisms into the patient.
Overall, I learned that nursing becomes an educator also in patient health. It integrates to the
progressive and improves the current lifestyle of its client. It also helps in developing and
promoting health as a whole. It helps promote a plan of care that will achieve the desired goals
and outcomes. It also provides an understanding in the context of factors associated with
participation and the willingness of the learner.
Social Awareness
During this pandemic, many people feel uncertain about what is going to happen in the future.
As a student, we are under stress because of our condition and environment, especially when we
conduct limited face-to-face. In online education, we also struggle with adaptability, technical
issues, cases of having a poor connection, and availability of the device are things to consider
reaching a good quality education. Lack of peer engagement also affects the student's education.
Although online learning is the best option right now, every student is adjusting and coping with
the problems that arise while attending online classes, especially during synchronous classes. If
we now look at the healthcare institution side, healthcare workers often share their doubts about
their job to assist their patients because of new circumstances. One of the coping strategies is to
guarantee accessibility between families, nurses, and other medical workers. Concerns must be
acknowledged with provisions for improvement. It is also endorsed to participate in any
productive activity and to not stress so much.
With the way things work lately, all of us are being limited to doing what we want. Students,
nurses, and other healthcare workers are having issues with isolation and forlornness because of
the current situation. The pandemic has additionally caused mental pressure among all of us,
making it hard to focus on daily living, not only on us, especially on the students. We expressed
feelings of anxiety, depression, yearning to go home, misery, and grief. We need to focus on
manipulating the environment to have peaceful and accessible surroundings to help in our
physical and mental health. The goal is to finish the degree with knowledge with a healthy body.
