CRITERIA A: RESEARCH
Introduction
For my Personal Project, I have decided to involve my interest in computers and game making.
I have chosen to learn how to 3D model objects in a software called “Blender”. I chose this topic
because I have always been interested in designing and 3d modeling. To me, the Personal
Project is an opportunity to increase my skills in using computers and softwares that includes
editing elements such as “Photoshop” and “After Effects” just to name a few.
The idea of constantly learning a new skill each day is appealing to me due to the fact that I am
trying to constantly improve myself. Furthermore, during my time using editing softwares I have
only done 2D editing such as creating banners or editing videos, so the thought of 3D modeling
sounds exciting to me. Through this project, I hope to get a better understanding of 3D modeling
and designing itself. It also will allow me to learn more about my passion.
Goal/Product
My goal is to “Learn how to 3D model in Blender”. My goal is highly challenging due to the
fact it requires a ton of research and hours of practicing through trial and error. I will discover
the techniques to design and create my own 3D model that will improve my overall skills as an
aspirant game maker. I hope to achieve this goal at the end of my project. As to ‘how’ I’m going
to achieve my goal, I am going to research and practice on improving my skills in 3D modeling.
After developing the goal and global context I needed a clear goal to keep me motivated and
focus on my project. My goal is to “create my own 3D model that may be used in games or even
interior designing and provide pictures of the finished renders as proof of my skills during this
project”.
The pictures I provide will help me achieve my goal because it is evidence of my work and
research. Using the pictures I provide I can display my research and time that I have invested
into this project. It shows that my outcome of researching 3D modeling was successful by the
end of the project. It will have all the renders of successful models I have created throughout the
process of my project.
Global Context
Due to the self-development in computers in my topic, I have chosen a global context that all
allow me to make my ideas more detailed and focused on my goal. The global context that will
be guiding me through my topic is Scientific and Technical Innovation. This is the study of “how
we understand the world in which we live” which fits into my project about understanding more
about 3D modeling using computers.
More specifically, I chose it because I will be able to focus on one of the main subheadings of
the global context: “The Impact of Scientific and Technological Advances on Society”
Prior Learning
In Computer Science class, we have been learning how to code using computers which makes
me more invested in using computers as a platform for self-improving and learning new skills
that are uncommon to regular people who don’t use a lot of computers. I have learned a lot of
knowledge concerning the impact of computers on future generations. I can apply my knowledge
from coding when learning how to 3D model as it has a tiny bit of understanding of coding
involved.
Since I was little I have always been invested heavily into computers. I have always been
playing games and messing with computers. Due to this factor, I am mostly interested in
computer-related stuff such as editing softwares and games. This basic knowledge will make it
much easier for me to understand what I’m doing during the project.
Research
A large part of my Personal Project was conducting research and learning through YouTube
Videos. My primary research consists of learning each and individual skill to make a basic 3D
model using the software Blender. First, I had to find the correct level of tutorials on youtube to
guide me during the making of this project. I found a person that goes by “Blender Guru” that
helped me understand the basics of blender and 3D modeling. He was a reliable source because
his job includes 3D modeling.
When conducting my introductory secondary research, I used sites such as realspace3d to learn
the basics of 3D modeling. I learned about little mechanics such as moving the camera and
objects to advance stuff such as texturing and sculpting objects. Then I used a site called
ronenbekerman. I learnt about 3D modeling a realistic building and environment with realistic
textures for grass, concrete, etc. Finally, I also learned that many 3D designer practices by trying
to replicate real objects into the virtual world using softwares such as blenders and more. This
was my point of realization that I can practice freely using objects around me to further improve
my skills at 3D modeling.
I also read a simple book about tips for 3D modeling. The book was “A Beginner's Guide to 3D
Modeling: A Guide to Autodesk Fusion 360(by Cameron Coward)”.This book included simple
tips to improve oneself. I started to practice modeling smaller objects that I could see around me.
This made me learn a lot more about the small errors I was making so that I could improve them.

Developing a Plan to Complete Project
In order to complete my project, a strict plan had to be made with due dates to ensure that none
of the work was procrastinated or that I did not have sufficient time to complete. A series of time
periods were sectioned and small goals were set for each time period. This way all of the work
would get done on time and well. I completed most of my tasks on time but I also procrastinated
a lot which resulted in a lack of quality of the final product.
Self-Management
Self-management skills are your ability to regulate and control your actions, feelings, and
thoughts, With these skills, I can follow through on the work I’m supposed to be doing.
Likewise, being able to manage myself can help me be more successful in my goal-setting
efforts. In order to complete my project, I had to make some adjustments in my self-management
skill. I researched how to manage oneself better. Here are some results of my researches:
Reliability: When you make a promise, you follow through.
Stress management: In high-pressure situations, you remain calm and collected. Rather than
losing your focus, you find a way to solve stressful problems.
Time management: You can prioritize your tasks and get things done on time. You have ways
to stay motivated and avoid procrastination.
Trustworthiness: You have a strong code of ethics and always follow your moral compass.
Your team can trust what you say and that you will act in the best interest of everyone.
Adaptability: When things suddenly change, you can control your discomfort and roll with it.
Figuring out ways to embrace new situations comes easily to you.
Conscientiousness: You are always mindful of what you say and the way you treat others.
Others would describe you as kind and thoughtful.
Criteria C: Taking Action
Product Development
After completing a detailed plan, I began work on my product. I started by learning the ropes of
the software. Afterward, making bigger and complicated projects in blender. This was the most
challenging part because I have never used this software before and it seems intimidating at first
due to the complicated look of the software. I began my journey on 3D modeling and started
learning basic shapes. Eventually, I got comfortable enough to try more complicated shapes
afterward moving on to props and objects. I screenshotted my results and saved them in a folder
on my computer to ensure I have proof of my work. I successfully made a couple of 3D models
that can be considered as my final product.
After finishing my project, I have concluded that my product was efficient in helping me
achieve my goal using the global context. The use of different skills needed to 3D model in
Blender has allowed me to be very technical which is part of the global context, Scientific and
Technical Innovation. The research and inquiry involved in my project has allowed me to
explore “The Impact of Scientific and Technological Advances on Society”.
Thinking Skills
I have been able to learn many new things about 3D modeling. In order for me to excel in this
project, I had to think more creatively in order to create more. During my project, I have
increased my thinking skills
