construction course offered by SEABLY, I was able to learn the tanker building regulations,
tanker construction, and double hulls, and safety zone concept. In this program, I was able to
discover the history behind the double hull design of oil tankers nowadays. The premise of
double hull construction is to surround the cargo tank spaces with ballast tanks or cofferdams
that act as a physical barrier between the ocean and the cargo. Aside from that, the course also
tackles chemical tankers and the IBC code. The build requirements for chemical tankers focus
on the cargo types carried and the vessel's survivability should an emergency occur. The
course also discusses different types of chemical tankers and LNG vessels that we could use in
our future profession. Through the course we took in SEABLY, I must say that the app has
proven to be a very excellent educational tool for our course. Apart from the Basic Tanker
Construction curriculum, we might enroll in other SEABLY courses. These lessons learned from
this software may be useful not only in my studies but also in my future career as a seafarer.

After seeing the movie "THE FINEST HOURS," I've realized a lot about my future career.
Despite the fact that the story happens in the 1950s, you can realize how hard seamen work on
the ship even up to this day. The movie also shows the loneliness of our loved ones being left by
us for the sake of our job and profession. In this movie, you could see how strong and
courageous seafarers are while facing the worst scenario of their life. The Finest Hours is a true-
to-life story about the heroic attempt to rescue the seafarers inside the broken halves of the two
ships. Coast Guard rescuers raced to help seafarers on the Fort Mercer, and when it became
apparent that the halves of the Pendleton were in danger of capsizing, the Guard sent out two
thirty-six-foot lifeboats as well. These wooden boats, manned by only four seamen, were
overshadowed by the large seas. As the tiny rescue vessels set out from the coast of Cape Cod,
the men aboard were all fully aware that they were embarking on what could easily become a
suicide mission. The heroic tale is overflowing with breathtaking scenes that sear themselves into
the mind's eye, as boats capsize, bows and sterns crash into one another, and men hurl
themselves into the raging sea in their terrifying battle for survival. But despite the catastrophic
happenings in the movie, the essence of brotherhood has been seen. I realize that no ship would
survive without the cooperation of each seafarer on board. The job on the ship is a team effort
that ensures everyone's survival.

1 If I were the remaining senior officer of the distressed vessel SS PENDLETON, I will still do
my best to operate the ship as much as I can. I will use all my skills, knowledge, and power just
to keep the ship afloat. It is my responsibility to stabilize things in the ship despite the harsh
environment in the ocean. I will do my duties in the best possible way and try to motivate my
team to do their best for our survival. Aside from that, I would be going to lessen the ship's
weight by throwing heavy materials in the ocean to keep the ship afloat longer.

2 No, for me the USCG motor lifeboat “CG 36500 is too little and risky to use for the rescue
operation. It is just a matter of luck and strategy that's why the group of Bernie was able to
rescue the stranded seafarers in Pendleton. Knowing that the weather at the time was so bad that
it caused the Pendleton to split in half, then imagine how much it could cost for that small motor
lifeboat. The lifeboat's capacity was also insufficient to carry a large number of survivors, putting
the lives of the other seafarers in danger. In that harsh situation, voyaging in the USCG motor
lifeboat is just like digging your own grave. But if I were given a chance to use other lifeboats
that is much bigger and safer to use, then I was willing to rescue them. It is just the fact I didn't
want to lose my life for nothing.

3. After seeing this rescue film and witnessing the awful moment of those seafarers, I'm left with
a bittersweet feeling. I felt sad since it is one of the worst possible scenarios that may possibly
happen in the lives of every seafarer worldwide. It is the reality that we must need to accept and
prepare. But despite those tragic events that occur, the essence of teamwork, patriotism, and
determination are still imminent to the attitude of those seafarers. It is very inspiring to see how
humanity works and helps each other. I have also realized that no ship would be able to survive
without the collaboration of all of the seafarers on board. The ship's job is a collaborative process
that ensures everyone's survival.
