CHAPTER – 1

INTRODUCTION
Financial management refers to the efficient and effective management of
money (funds) in such a manner as to accomplish the objectives of the
organization. It is the specialized function directly associated with the top
management. The significance of this function is not seen in the 'Line' but also
in the capacity of the 'Staff' in overall of a company. It has been defined
differently by different experts in the field.

The term typically applies to an organization or company's financial


strategy, while personal finance or financial life management refers to an
individual's management strategy. It includes how to raise the capital and how
to allocate capital, i.e. capital budgeting. Not only for long term budgeting, but
also how to allocate the short term resources like current liabilities. It also deals
with the dividend policies of the share holders.

Financial Management is a vital activity in any organization. It is the


process of planning, organizing, controlling and monitoring financial resources
with a view to achieve organizational goals and objectives. It is an ideal practice
for controlling the financial activities of an organization such as procurement of
funds, utilization of funds, accounting, payments, risk assessment and every
other thing related to money.

In other terms, Financial Management is the application of general


principles of management to the financial possessions of an enterprise. Proper
management of an organization’s finance provides quality fuel and regular
service to ensure efficient functioning. If finances are not properly dealt with an
organization will face barriers that may have severe repercussions on its growth
and development.

Financial statements (or financial reports) are formal records of the


financial activities of a business, person, or other entity. Financial statements
provide an overview of a business or person's financial condition in both short
and long term. All the relevant financial information of a business enterprise,
presented in a structured manner and in a form easy to understand is called the
financial statements.

The analysis of financial statement is a process of evaluating the


relationship between component parts of financial statement to obtain a better
understanding of firm financial position.
COMPANY PROFILE

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is a South Korean multinational electronics company


headquartered in Suwon, South Korea. Through extremely complicated ownership structure
with some circular ownership, it is the flagship company of the Samsung Group, accounting
for 70% of the group's revenue in 2012. Samsung Electronics has assembly plants and sales
networks in 80 countries and employs around 308,745 people. It is the world's second-largest
information technology company by revenue. As of October 2017, Samsung
Electronics' market cap stood at US$372.0 billion.

Samsung has long been a major manufacturer of electronic components such


as lithium-ion batteries, semiconductors, chips, flash memory and hard drive devices for
clients such as Apple, Sony, HTC and Nokia. It is the world's largest manufacturer of mobile
phones and smartphones fueled by the popularity of its Samsung Galaxy line of devices. The
company is also a major vendor of tablet computers, particularly its Android-
powered Samsung Galaxy Tab collection, and is generally regarded as pioneering
the phablet market through the Samsung Galaxy Note family of devices. Samsung has been
the world's largest television manufacturer since 2006, and the world's largest manufacturer
of mobile phones since 2011. It is also the world's largest memory chips manufacturer. In
July 2017, Samsung Electronics overtook Intel as the largest semiconductor chip maker in the
world.

Samsung, like many other South Korean family-run chaebols, has been criticized for
low dividend payouts and other governance practices that favor controlling shareholders at
the expense of ordinary investors.

In 2012, Kwon Oh-hyun was appointed the company's CEO but announced in
October 2017 that he would resign in March 2018, citing an "unprecedented crisis".
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Research Methodology decides the territory of proposed study and


gives information to the readers about adopted process of analysis for the
respective study. This includes aims for which the study is undertaken. This
also clarify time, scope, data sources etc. of proposed study. Another
significant aspect is tools and techniques which are used for the study. In
brief this chapter helps to the researcher to decide his path of research
work.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

 To study the growth profile of the company during the study period.
 To appraise financial soundness of the company.
 To study the financial position on the basis of ratio analysis.
 To study the liquidity ratio, profitability ratio, current ratio position.
 To know about how the different ratios to be used to find out the true
position of the business.
 To evaluate the performance of the company by using ratios the
efficiency of the company.
 To help the management in its planning and forecasting activities .
SCOPE AND LIMITATION

The study is confined to the financial management of Renault. Comparison of various


component in financial statements for the F. Y. 2015-2016, 2016-2017, and 2017-2018. The
study is analysis of all the available components of ratio analysis and to make item wise
analysis of the financial statements.

HYPOTHESIS

 To verify Samsung electronics reflect on financial position.


 To verify that liquidity long term and short term design.

DATA COLLECTION

There are several ways of collecting the appropriate data which differ
considerably in context of money, cost, time and other sources at the
disposable of the researcher. These are two types of data.

2. Secondary Data
Primary Data:-

Primary data are those which are collected afresh and for the first
time, and thus happen to be original in character. In case of descriptive
research, researcher performs survey whether sample survey or census
survey, thus we obtain primary data either through

 Primary data collected by discussing with Questionnaire.

 Primary data collected by discussing with company officer.

Secondary Data:-

Secondary data are those which have already been collected by


someone else and have already been passed through statistical process. In
this project report, both types of data have been used. Mainly, secondary
data is used such as annual reports.

The proposed chapter will deal with the result arrived after
the detail study of “A STUDY OF FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF
SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS PVT. LTD.” And the conclusion arrived

there of suitable suggestions or recommendation will also be


included in this chapter if necessary.
