Creating Analytics Charts
Creating analytics charts allows you to visualize and analyze data.
Context
Analytics charts allow you to display your data using several different types of charts, such as bar charts, pie charts, heat maps,
and so on. You can also save your charts so that you can add them to a dashboard or share them with other users.
Procedure
1. In the Analytics – Advanced app, choose Create and select Analytics Chart.
Note
If you choose Supply Chain Network, you'll be taken to the Supply Chain Network app. For more information about
creating network visualization charts, see Supply Chain Network.
2. Choose lters for your data. For example, choose a period type (week, month, or year) and the from/to range. You can
also choose the attributes for which you want to analyze data, for example a product and location ID.
Caution
Using lters when creating a chart is highly recommended, as large amounts of data may take a long time to fetch
and process.
The ad hoc lter is split into individual elds that can be added to your lter bar. By default, Product ID and Location ID
are visible. For more information about assigning a business meaning in your planning area, see Assigning Attributes to a
Planning Area.
3. In the Basic section, ll in the basic settings.
Enter the basic chart information. You must add a name, planning area, and key gures. You can also enter
multiple criteria to lter on multiple key gures by using the available operators, such as greater than, less than,
top N, bottom N and so on. For example, you can apply multiple lters such as KF1>1000, KF2=0 and KF3 is not
null.
Planning Area is populated with your default planning area. You can set your default planning area in the User
Preferences app. If no default planning area is set, the system uses the rst planning area, in alphabetical order.
Enter the aggregation level you want to use to display your key gures by choosing attributes in the Group By
eld.
Select Rolling if you want to apply rolling time.
Note
By default, as you modify your selections for the chart (for example, add key gures or choose a chart type)
the chart refreshes. You can pause the auto-refresh feature by clicking the Auto-Refresh Off button. When
auto-refresh is off, the Drill Down, Download CSV File, Show/Hide Legend, and Refresh buttons are disabled.
You can turn auto-refresh back on by clicking the Auto-Refresh On button. The chart then refreshes to its
current settings.
You can further split key gures by selecting one of the options under Group By as Series. Group By As Series also
allows you to visualize the same key gures in different versions/scenarios, to allow you to compare values.
Note
Group by as Series is supported by bar, column, line and combination chart types.

Enable the option to view planning notes if you want to display them in your analytics charts. If you choose to
display notes for all levels, you will always see them. If you choose to have them for a speci c group of attributes,
you will only see them at that level. Note that you will need a time based group by attribute to display planning
notes.
For more information about viewing planning notes in your charts, see Displaying Planning Notes.
Choose a unit of measure and currency if the options are available.
Choose a chart type. If the basic settings don’t match the minimum requirement for a chart type, the type is
grayed out. For more information about analytics chart types, see Chart Types.
Note
Geographic chart types (Choropleth, Geo Pie, and Geo Bubble) require a group by de nition that includes the
geographic coordinates for the attribute. For example, to create a chart that shows key gures by location, the
location master data type must include the attributes GEOLONGITUDE and GEOLATITUDE. These attributes
must be populated when you upload master data for the location master data type.
If you only want to display an attribute for the location description to see the location name, you must maintain that
attribute in the master data type.
4. Click Chart Options and select chart options.
Note
Some options only display for certain chart types. For example, Axis is hidden when the chart type is Pie.
Key Figures is only available for dual axis and combination charts. For dual axis charts, you can choose which key
gures to show on the primary and secondary axes. For combination charts, you can choose which key gures
appear as lines and which appear as bars. In addition, you can choose for bars to be stacked.
Note
You must have at least two attributes in the Group By eld to split the bar.
Axis is only available for charts that contain an axis. Axis Title turns on or off the title of the axis. You can also
choose to set the axis data value format (number of decimal points displayed) for charts with one axis or for
charts with a primary and secondary axis.
Zoom allows you to set the chart so that the full chart displays, rather than an automatically zoomed version. This
is useful if you have a large chart and want the whole chart to display when you open it. This option is not available
for pie, donut, table, heat map, scatter, and geographic charts.
Color allows you to choose the colors for your chart, or you can let the system set the colors of the chart series.
Click Automatic to let the system pick or choose the color you like by clicking Custom Colors and either choosing
a color palette or an individual color for each key gure.
Legend allows you to choose a placement option for the chart legends. You can select one of Auto - positioned on
the top right corner by default, Top, Bottom, Right, or Left.
Value Display allows you to turn on or off the value label displayed on the chart, choose the number format, and
choose to show the time when the analytics chart is refreshed in absolute or relative format, for example,
MM/DD/YYYY, HH:MM:SS or Yesterday. You can also remove the null and the zero values from the chart’s
display. For pie charts, you can choose to display the value as a percentage or as the actual value.
Threshold Ranges allows you to de ne thresholds by setting a color to highlight the data. This feature is available
for choropleth and geo bubble chart types. For example, <25 = green, 25-75 = yellow, <75 = red, and so on. The
chart is rendered with the selected colors and the legends identify the threshold for each color.
This is custom documentation. For more information, please visit the SAP Help Portal 3

You can also add threshold ranges to your comparison charts to highlight data that is above or below important
thresholds. When you choose Show Thresholds, you can select multiple key gures and apply more than one rule
to them.
You have the option to enter a minimum, maximum, or minimum and maximum threshold ranges for a chart. For
example, you may only want to view values that are less than 1000. In this case, you would only ll in the
maximum threshold range value, leaving the Minimum eld blank.
Multiple key gure threshold range names and their respective values are displayed in the legend for quick
identi cation.
This feature is available for the following chart types:
Bar
Column
Dual X-Axis Bar
Dual Y-Axis Bar
Heat Map
Once you choose the rule you want to display, all other colors will be greyed out to highlight that speci c rule.
Note
Threshold intervals cannot overlap each other.
Threshold values can be positive or negative.
Threshold values can be any numerical value.
Attributes Display Option allows you to choose how you want the selected attributes displayed on the chart. You
can choose between ID, description and a combination of ID and description. You can also choose the order in
which to display these options.
Show Reference Lines allows you to add additional horizontal or vertical lines to a chart with an axis (for example:
bar, column, dual X-axis). Reference lines can be xed or dynamic. For example, if you choose a xed reference line
to represent the minimum stock level, any value on the graph that is below that line represents understock
situations. If you choose a dynamic reference line, for example, the average of a certain key gure (sales quantity)
is calculated based on the displayed data. This way, any data that is below average is underperforming.
Note
If you delete any of your reference lines, your changes will only be applied once you click Save.
Show First / Last Value Labels provides you with the option to only display the rst and last value labels on your
charts. This feature helps you view speci c data.
For example, you might want to compare the consensus demand between the rst and the last product on your
chart.
If you want to display rst and last value labels on your chart, choose Chart Options Value Display . From here,
turn on Value Label and Show First / Last Value Labels. The rst and last value labels are now displayed. Click
Save.
Note
This option is applied to all key gures.
This is custom documentation. For more information, please visit the SAP Help Portal 4
5/7/2022
Show Minimum / Maximum Value Labels provides you with the option to only display the minimum and maximum
value labels for all key gures on your chart. This feature allows you to view speci c data.
For example, you can highlight your minimum and maximum sales.
If you want to display minimum and maximum value labels on your chart, choose Chart Options Value Display .
From here, turn on Value Label and Show Minimum / Maximum Value Labels. The minimum and maximum value
labels are now displayed. Click Save.
Note
This feature is available on all chart types that have this property enabled.
Value Axis Font Size and Category Axis Font Size gives you the option to change the font sizes on your charts with
an axis. This feature makes it easier to view your data.
You can choose from a range of small (8pt) to extra large (28pt) font sizes.
You also have the option to change the font size in the Value Display section under Data Label Font Size.
The font sizes used in your analytics charts will be re ected in the Dashboards - Advanced,
Note
This Data Label Font Size option is not available for the following chart types:
Geographic
Table
Display Version/Scenario as allows you to display the version/scenario name, description, or both in the order
your prefer.
5. Select the Filters tab to see which lters have priority, and which lters are being applied to your analytics chart. By
default, a summary of the applied lters is displayed in a collapsed list, but you can select Show Details to view how the
applied lters were determined based on the various planning and attribute lter sources. For more information about
applied lter priorities, see Using Filters in Analytics - Advanced.
From the lter details, you can switch between views to see all lters, applied lters, or lters that aren't applied. You can
also sort the lters by attribute or priority. You also have the option navigate to the Planning Filters app by selecting the
dashboard or analytics chart lter. The Planning Filters app opens in a new tab where you can view more information
about lters.
6. Select Information and enter any information you want that's not already present.
Category is the category you want to assign to this chart.
From Dashboards, choose a dashboard to which you want to add the chart.
Excel Template is the template you want to use. The chart uses only the formatting of the template and ignores
any de nitions in the template, such as totals.
Users and User Groups are the IBP users or user groups with whom you want to share the chart.
7. Choose Save.
