Project Topic:
Hydraulic Traffic Reduce System
Introduction:
• Traffic congestion has been one of the major issues. As
vehicular traffic began to increase the congestion on streets
began to hamper the safe and efficient movement of traffic.
Traffic congestion may directly affect the means of the
emergency. So, to avoid these we have introduced the concept
of Hydraulic TRS for easy and efficient movement of
vehicle.
• India, is a country with the third largest road network in the
world. In the year 2019, about 295.8 million vehicles wandered
their way through these roads. And amidst this herd, are
10,017 ambulances in an urgency to reach hospitals with
patients fighting for their lives. Indian government data shows,
about 30% of on-road deaths are caused due to delayed
ambulances. Also, more than 50% of heart attack cases reach
hospital late due to traffic. With India’s speeding population
and economy, and people with their personal vehicles,
prolonged signals and obstacles for emergencies, our project
Hydraulic Traffic Reduce System aims to reduce such casualties.
• By providing hydraulic jack underneath the footpath such that
in case of emergency; vehicles can make their way through the
traffic, during signals with ease. With regards to sluggish traffic
movements while making way for emergency sirens this way
would be certainly effective and a bold approach towards
assisting the development of the nation
Objectives:
The main objective of the study is to solve the traffic
congestion problem in cities. The other objectives are given
below:
a. To minimize the traffic in unstable circumstances.
b. To speed up traffic flow.
c. To use footpath as an extra lane in case of
emergency.
d. To reduce traffic congestion and make easy flow of
traffic.
Methodology :
Since, our concept is based on the hydraulic jack
system we use the basic of hydraulics and its principles. Principle of
Hydraulics: Hydraulics is based on the Pascal’s Law. Pascal’s Law: A
change in pressure at any point in an enclosed fluid at rest is
transmitted undiminished to all points in the fluid.
Concept :
For the vertical movement of the footpath we are going to
install the hydraulic jack/mechanism underneath the
footpath.
Hydraulic Jack: A hydraulic jack is a device that is used to
lift the heavy loads by applying a force via a hydraulic
cylinder. Hydraulic jack lifts the loads using the force created
by the pressure in the cylinder chamber.

we can help to reduce the traffic congestion problems.
CONLUSIONS :
Traffic congestion has been a worldwide issue which results
into wastage of time, energy and causes environmental
pollution. Identification of congestion is the initial step for
selecting appropriate method to avoid this situation. To
understand congestion in simple way it is classified into
different categories. There are number of reasons for the
congestion problem. There are numerous potential
congestion administration procedures. The suggested two
related measures are for traffic management are; Regularity
measures and Economic measures. Regularity measures are
access management and parking management and pricing
policies are economic measures.
Overall, we can use this mechanism to solve the problems. I
am confident that it can reduce traffic congestion in the
future.

Our range of low height hydraulic jacks vary from 5 to 520 tons
capacity and are designed to work in the toughest environments to
which this type of equipment is normally associated. Our hydraulic
jacks are also equipped with locking collars to mechanically lock-off
the ram after lifting and swivel heads to ensure that the load is
transferred centrally through the jack.
Our bespoke hydraulic jacking and monitoring equipment is specially
designed and manufactured to suit many applications from
preloading steelworks to temporary propping systems used for
bridge jacking and bridge bearing replacement operations.
What is the advantage of using a hydraulic jack?
In comparison to a normal jack, hydraulic jacks are able to lift
heavier load easily at a greater height by applying a small amount
of force. To achieve this output, both small and large cylinders are
connected through hydraulic fluid which helps reduce the amount of
human force applied to lift.
Advantages of hydraulic systems include power, accuracy, efficiency
and ease of maintenance. But they disadvantages too: they can leak,
which makes them messy, and the fluids inside them are often
caustic to paint and some seals
Disadvantages of hydraulic jack
It is susceptible to failure if the oil seals are worn out, this can
cause serious problems.
It has relatively slow speed.
Hydraulic oil can emit unpleasant odor when become too warm
due to overuse.
It can overheat fairly quick.
Hydraulic oil leak can cause soil and water pollution.
Hydraulic systems transmit power by utilizing the pressure of fluid
within a sealed system. The brakes on cars and trucks, wheelchair
lifts, hydraulic jacks and wing flaps on aircraft typically employ
hydraulic systems. Many manufacturers use hydraulic systems
because they have many advantages over mechanical and electrical
systems like offering up a lot of power in a small space, but if the
fluid leaks from the system, this creates a problem and a
disadvantage in the system, in that it won't work at all.
TL;DR (Too Long; Didn't Read)
Advantages of hydraulic systems include power, accuracy, efficiency
and ease of maintenance. But they disadvantages too: they can leak,
which makes them messy, and the fluids inside them are often
caustic to paint and some seals.
How Hydraulic Systems Work
Hydraulic systems use liquid to create pressure. Liquid particles are
close together, meaning a liquid is almost incompressible. When the
particles move, they strike each other and also bump against the
walls of the container. Because the pressure in a liquid transfers in
equal measure in every direction, a force applied at one point on a
liquid transfers to other points on the liquid. You work out the
pressure using the equation F ÷ (P x A), where P is the pressure in
pascals, F is the force in newtons and A is the cross-sectional area in
meters squared. This is known as Pascal's law.
In hydraulic systems, a small force across a small cross-sectional area
transmits pressure and creates a large force over a larger cross-
sectional area. Essentially, if you connect two cylinders, a large and a
small one, and apply force to one cylinder, it generates equal
pressure in both cylinders. Because one cylinder contains a larger
volume, the force the larger cylinder produces is higher, although the
pressure in the two cylinders remains the same.
Hydraulic System Examples
A hydraulic system most every driver uses every day, without
thinking about it, is the brake system in your vehicle. Other examples
include lifting equipment, such as hydraulic jacks and wheelchair lifts,
lifting and excavating arms on backhoes and other heavy equipment,
hydraulic presses, which produce metal components, and some parts
of aircraft and boats, including wing flaps and rudders. Every
hydraulic system follows the same basic principle. For example, a
hydraulic jack lifts heavy loads with a pump plunger, which moves oil
through both cylinders. Pulling the plunger back opens a suction
valve ball and takes the fluid into the pump chamber. Pushing the
plunger forward sends the fluid into an external discharge check
valve, then into the cylinder chamber, closing the suction valve as it
builds pressure inside the cylinder.
Hydraulic System Advantages
A hydraulic system is an efficient transmitter of power for many
reasons. Firstly, its simple levers and push buttons make it easy to
start, stop, accelerate and decelerate. This also allows for control
accuracy. Also, because it is such a fluid system, without any
cumbersome gears, pulleys or levers, it easily copes with a huge
weight range. It provides a constant force, regardless of changes in
speed. For the most part, hydraulic systems are simple, safe and
economical because they use fewer moving parts compared to
mechanical and electrical systems, which makes them easier to
maintain. Hydraulic systems are safe to use in chemical plants and
mines because they do not cause sparks.
Hydraulic System Disadvantages
Hydraulic systems also have some drawbacks. Handling hydraulic
fluids is messy, and it can be difficult to totally get rid of leaks in a
hydraulic system. If hydraulic fluid leaks in hot areas, it may catch
fire. If hydraulic lines burst, they can cause serious injuries. Take care
when handling hydraulic fluids, as too much exposure can lead to
health issues. Hydraulic fluids are also corrosive, but some types are
less so than others. For example, two main types of brake fluid are
available for hydraulic mountain bikes, DOT fluid and mineral oil. Due
to its non-corrosive properties, mineral oil is less likely to destroy a
bike's paintwork. To keep your hydraulic system in its prime,
periodically check hydraulic systems for leaks, lubricate when
necessary, and change filters and seals as required.
DISADVANTAGES
You may encounter hydraulic systems in many applications, including
within automobiles. Hydraulics systems use fluids to transfer energy
from one location to another. Fluids work better than solids because
they can form different shapes; hydraulic systems generally suffer
less damage than other systems because they lack hard parts
rubbing together. However, hydraulic systems also carry a few
disadvantages.
Expense
Hydraulic systems are more complex and expensive than systems
operated by air—known as "pneumatic systems." These systems
operate at lower pressures and therefore require cheaper materials,
according to Hydraulics Pneumatics. However, pneumatic systems
are more expensive to operate since air requires more power to
compress. Pneumatic systems also run more quietly than hydraulic
systems.
Oil Problems
Because many hydraulic fluids are oil based, hydraulic systems can
pose a fire hazard when they leak, according to Scribd. These leaks
can also pose a safety hazard because hydraulic systems are under
high pressure, and fluids can shoot out at a high velocity, potentially
harming those nearby the leak.
Filters
You must filter oils in hydraulic systems on a regular basis to ensure
that the hydraulic fluid contains no broken particles, as well as to
eliminate harmful damaging air pockets, according to Scribd.
Leaks
Hydraulic systems that do not have the necessary hydraulic fluids will
not function, which becomes a problem when a leak occurs. You
must repair the leak so the hydraulic fluids can continue to produce
flow; otherwise, the hydraulic system will begin to slow down.
Fortunately, areas that have leakage will also have hotter internal
temperatures, according to Insider Secrets to Hydraulics. This
phenomenon can prove beneficial, since these temperatures can
help the operators of the hydraulic systems locate the leak. Prevent
leaks by using proper plumbing procedures and the correct
materials, and by performing regular preventative maintenance.
Aeration
Hydraulic systems can develop loud banging noises, which result
from air entering the hydraulic fluids. This banging noise results from
the hydraulic fluids compressing and decompressing, according to
Machinery Lubrication. This dynamic can also cause foaming, erratic
actuator movements, degradation of the hydraulic fluid and damage
to the internal parts of the hydraulic system.
