TUTORIAL NO. 1
NOTE: Assume missing DATA if any
1. How much charge is represented by 4,600 electrons?
2. Calculate the amount of charge represented by two million protons.
3. The total charge entering a terminal is given by q = 5tsin4πt mC. Calculate the current at t = 0.5 s.
4. Determine the total charge entering the terminal between t=1s and t=2s if the current passing the terminal is
i = (3t2 − t)A.
5. An energy source forces a constant current of 2A for 10s to flow through a light bulb. If 2.3KJ is given off in
the form of heat and light energy, calculate the voltage drop across the bulb.
6. To move charge q from point a to point b requires −30J. Find the voltage drop vab if q=2C and q=-6C.
7. Find the power delivered to an element at t=3ms if the current entering its positive terminal is i = 5cos60πt A
and the voltage is: (a) v=3i, (b) v=3di/dt
8. Find the power delivered to the element in Rprevious example at t = 5 ms if the current remains the same but
t
the voltage is: (a) v = 2iV , (b) v = (10 + 5 0 idt)V
9. How much energy does a 100-W electric bulb consume in two hours?
10. A stove element draws 15 A when connected to a 120-V line. How long does it take to consume 30 kJ?
11. Compute the power absorbed or supplied by each component of the circuit in Fig 1(a).
12. The electron beam in a TV picture tube Fig. 1 ((b), (c)) carries 1015 electrons per second. As a design engineer,
determine the voltage Vo needed to accelerate the electron beam to achieve 4 W.
13. If an electron beam in a TV picture tube Fig. 1 ((b), (c)) carries 1013 electrons/second and is passing through
plates maintained at a potential difference of 30 kV, calculate the power in the beam.
14. Determine (i) vo and i (ii) vx and vo (iii) vo and io Fig. 1 (d), (e), (f).
15. Find the equivalent resistance in the circuits Fig 1 (g), (h),(i).
16. Observe the electricity bill of your home for the month of January and find out the units consumed and tariff.
