FLIGHT INSTRUMENTS REVIEW
The Bombardier CRJ200 is
equipped with an Electronic
Flight Instrumentation System
(EFIS). EFIS consists of four
electronic flight displays, each
of which contains an integral
symbol generator and a cathode
ray tube (CRT).
The electronic flight displays
provide airspeed, altitude,
attitude, heading, navigation,
and flight mode annunciation
information. Each pilot is presented with this information on a primary flight display (PFD) and a
multifunction display (MFD).
Control of the EFIS display modes is provided by switches, pushbuttons and control knobs that are
located on the center console and the side instrument panels.
PITOT-STATIC SYSTEM
• Two (2) Pitot-Static heads
• One (1) Total Air Temperature (TAT) Probe supplies temp info to the Air Data Computers
(ADC)
• Two (2) Alternate Static Ports
• One (1) Pitot tube
AIR DATA SYSTEM
• Two (2) Air Data Computers (ADC)
–– Calculate Altitude
–– Generate Altitude Alerts
–– Temperature
–– Speed Information
• Two (2) Air Data Reference Panels (ADRP)
ELECTRONIC FLIGHT INFORMATION SYSTEM (EFIS)
• PFD ground (brown) and sky (blue) references always shown regardless of aircraft attitude
(unless in overheat condition)
• During UNUSUAL ATTITUDES – PFD “Declutters” to show only essential information
• WINDSHEAR Alerts and Warnings are active below 1500’ AGL

• FLIGHT CREW SHOULD FLY COMMAND BAR GUIDANCE TO ESCAPE
WINDSHEAR
• Airspeed TREND VECTOR shows predicted airspeed in 10 seconds
• GREEN LINE – 1.27 VSO – Stall speed in current configuration (will change with flaps, etc.)
• 1st black box of top checkerboard – VMO / MMO
• Top of bottom checkerboard – 1.06 VSO – STALL
• Above 0.45M – Mach speed is displayed on upper left corner of PFD
• Slowing below 0.40M – Mach speed is removed
• 450 feet of altitude always displayed on speed tape
• Amber “MDA” and “MDA” pointer flashes upon reaching MDA
• Analog VSI - ± 4,000 fpm, Digital VSI - ± 15,000 fpm
• EFIS displays have built in overheat protection – “DISPLAY TEMP” red message. If overheat
continues, sky and ground rastors will be removed as the color is the major heat generator.
Ultimately, screen will go blank
• Two (2) PFD’s and two (2) MFD’s
• MFD information lines:
–– 1st line of MFD – ALWAYS Radar/Terrain information
–– 2nd line of MFD – Time, temperature, and performance information
–– Different formats selected with the FORMAT knob on the DCP
DISPLAY CONTROL PANEL (DCP)
• RADAR overlay- NAV SECTOR, FMS MAP, and TCAS
• TCAS overlay – ALL FORMATS except HSI and FMS PLAN (CAN BE OVERLAYED
WITH RADAR)
• If MFD range > 40nm when TFC button pushed, MFD will revert of TCAS screen
• NAV SOURCE knob – (Rotating NAV SOURCE knob)
–– Green – ONSIDE
–– White – FMS
–– Yellow – OFFSIDE
–– Hitting the center of the NAV SOURCE knob gives CROSS-SIDE data (HSI / NAV
Sector ONLY)

DISPLAY REVERSIONARY PANELS (DRP)
• Allows MFD to display either a PFD or EICAS screen
• NORM – MFD displays navigation, weather radar, EGPWS terrain, TCAS, FMS text data and
maintenance diagnosis computer information
• Select PFD 1 or PFD 2 – transfers the selected sides PFD information to the associated MFD
• Select EICAS – STATUS page is displayed on the MFD
STANDBY INSTRUMENTS
• Standby Attitude Indicator (AI) – Receives NAV information from NAV 1 (9 minutes of
operation after power failure)
• Standby ASI – Receives air data info from Standby Pitot and Static system
• Standby Magnetic Compass – Dry compass
• Standby Integrated Standby Instrument (ISI) – Connected to BATT BUS. Receives air data info
from Standby Pitot and Static system. ALIGNING displayed for 1st minute of power up, no
MACH SPEED transducers used
PITOT-STATIC SYSTEMS
• Captain’s Pitot-Static – Pitot-Static to ADC 1, Static to ADC 2, Pitot to Mach Speed
Transducer
• Co-Pilot’s Pitot-Static – Pitot-Static to ADC 2, Static to ADC 1, Pitot to Mach Speed
Transducer
• Pitot Probe – Inputs to Standby altimeter and airspeed indicator
• Total Air Temperature (TAT) – Measures airflow temperature – Used to calculate SAT, TAS,
and Mach Speed
• Alternate Static – Inputs to CPAM and standby altimeter
• MACH SPEED TRANSDUCERS:
–– Primary source of Mach information for Stall Protection Computers (SPC)
–– Selector valves (4) isolate Mach Transducers from pitot-static system
AIR DATA REFERENCE PANEL (ADRP)
• Dual computer system – Interfaces with EFIS, FLIGHT GUIDANCE and other systems
• Set V-speeds, DH, MDA, and Altimeter settings
• AIR DATA SWITCH NORM – Display receives air data information from the ON-SIDE
ADC
• Continuous self-test and automatic fault reporting
• If altitude / airspeed differences between ADC’s are detected/exceeded, IAS or ALT will flash
AMBER on PFD
• Radar altimeter DIGITAL READOUT is displayed < 2500’ AGL
• Radar altimeter TAPE (yellow) is displayed < 1000’ AGL
• DH display is based on RADAR ALTIMETRY, based on distance between airplane and ground
• MDA display is based on BAROMETRIC ALTIMETRY, i.e., current altimeter setting

ALTITUDE HEADING and REFERENCE SYSTEM (AHRS)
• Provides ATTITUDE and MAGNETIC HEADING data to avionics system
• BATTERY POWER will power AHRS FOR APPROXIMATELY 11 MINUTES
• Two (2) COMPASS CONTROL PANELS
–– MAG – Slaves heading with FLUX DETECTORS
–– DG – Unslaved mode of operation
–– Magnetic anomalies may cause “EFIS COMP MON” Caution Messages
• On SSP – ATTD/HDG NORM means that displays receive attitude and heading info from
ON-SIDE AHRS
• SSP provides for reversionary operation
• ATTD/HDG selected to “1” – Pilot’s/Co-Pilots PFD’s show AMBER ATT 1, MAG 1
• Indicates that both displays using AHRS information from the Captain’s AHRS
• ATTD/HDG selected to “2” – Pilot’s/Co-Pilot’s PFD’s show AMBER ATT 2, MAG 2
• Indicates that both displays are using AHRS information from the Co-Pilot’s AHRS
• Initialization
–– MAG mode – 70 seconds
–– DG mode – Up to 10 minutes
ALTITUDE ALERTER SYSTEM
• Provides altitude awareness when approaching or deviating from selected altitude
• When within 1,000’ of pre-selected altitude:
–– Readout and bars flash
–– One second aural tone sounds
• When within 200’ of pre-selected altitude:
–– Readout and bars STOP flashing
–– No aural tone
• If aircraft deviates 200’ or 1,000’ from pre-selected altitude:
–– Altitude bars and digital readout will flash yellow
–– Warning tone will sound
• Altitude alerts can be canceled by pressing the center of the Altitude Knob
RADAR ALTIMETERS
• Two (2) radar altimeters – One (1) readout
• Rising runway (yellow) appears from 0 – 200’ AGL
• Radar altitude – GREEN when above DA
• Radar altitude – AMBER when at or below DA
CLOCKS
Aircraft time base order of priority – clocks provide time base for Data Concentrator Units (DCU)

CRJ700 SYSTEM DIFFERENCES
Differences are limited to the following:
• Integrated Standby Instrument (ISI)
–– Electronic Attitude Direction Indicator (ADI) combined with altitude and airspeed
readouts
–– Powered by BATT BUS
–– Receives air data from standby pitot static system (P3/S3)
–– Displays localizer and glideslope using data from VHF NAV 1 or the backup tuning unit
–– ALIGNING message displayed for first minute of power up
–– Trapezoid-shaped skid indicator
• No Mach transducers or switches - Mach transducers not required for the stall system
–– Mach data comes from the ADC’s
–– Flight directors provide optimized pitch angle during takeoff
–– When TO/TO is the active flight director mode
–– Provides an optimized pitch reference based on look-up charts in the FCC
–– Referenced on VR and V2 spread
