Sustainable development is the one
which satisfies existing demands without
jeopardising the capacity of future
generations to satisfy their own needs.
Meeting human development goals while
preserving the capacity of natural systems to
deliver the natural resources and ecosystem
services that are essential to the economy and
society is accomplished through the organising
principle of sustainable development.
Dimensions of
Sustainable Development
There are three dimensions to sustainable
development – environment, society and
economy.
ENVIROMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
All of the earth's environmental systems are kept
in balance and ecological integrity is upheld while
natural resources are consumed by humans at a
rate that allows them to replenish themselves.
SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY
All members of a society should have equal rights,
an equitable sharing of societal advantages, and
an equal voice in decision-making for it to be
socially viable. Everyone has access to the
universal human rights and necessities necessary
to maintain the safety and well-being of their
families and communities.
ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY
It includes modern ideas like the circular economy
and cradle to grave, among others. Economic
sustainability also refers to the ability of human
groups to remain autonomous and to have access
to the resources they need, both material and
non-material, to meet their requirements.
Need for
Sustainable Development
We have observed over the last two or three
decades that environmental health has suffered in
the name of economic expansion. As a result, there
have been environmental effects like deteriorating
air quality and climate change brought on by
greenhouse gases. Due of the potential harm that
unmanaged sustainable growth can do to the
environment, all of these causes have contributed to
the necessity for it.
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
can be helpful in ways like:
1. Making wise use of the
resources at hand while
attempting to preserve the
ecological balance
2. To stop environmental
deterioration and emphasise
environmental protection.
3. To stop the overuse of
resources.
THE
SUSTAINABILITY
GOALS
According to the United Nations Department of
Economic and Social Affairs Disability, the
General Assembly endorsed the 2030 Agenda for
Sustainable Development, which consists of 17
Sustainable Development Goals, in September 2015.
(SDGs). The new Agenda emphasises a holistic
approach to attaining sustainable development for
all, building on the idea of "leaving no one
behind."
The 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) to
transform our world:
GOAL 1: No Poverty
GOAL 2: Zero Hunger
GOAL 3: Good Health and Well-being
GOAL 4: Quality Education
GOAL 5: Gender Equality
GOAL 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
GOAL 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
GOAL 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
GOAL 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
GOAL 10: Reduced Inequality
GOAL 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
GOAL 12: Responsible Consumption and
Production
GOAL 13: Climate Action
GOAL 14: Life Below Water
GOAL 15: Life on Land
GOAL 16: Peace and Justice Strong Institutions
GOAL 17: Partnerships to achieve the Goal
MY LEARNING FROM THE
PROJECT
Sustainable development seeks to strike a balance
between our social, environmental, and economic
needs in order to ensure both current and future
generations' prosperity. By gradually altering the
methods we create and use technologies, sustainable
development encourages us to protect and improve
our resource base. The basic requirements of
employment, food, energy, water, and sanitization
must be met by all nations. Everyone has a right to a
high standard of living and more favorable
employment prospects. Our firms must thus provide
high-quality goods that people throughout the world
want at costs they are willing to pay if we are to have
an economically prosperous nation.
Therefore, sustainable development is an
important way to preserve the environment for the
present and future generations to come.
