CHAPTER 1

⦁ INTRODUCTION
A hotel may be defined as ‘an establishment whose primary business is to provide
lodging facilities to a traveller along with food, beverage, and sometimes recreational
facilities too on the chargeable basis. A hotel can also provide additional services for
example a business hotel has meeting rooms, conventional hall where as a holiday hotel
may have a recreational spa or other entertainment zones. But the primary purpose of a
hotel is to provide comfortable lodging to the customers at a fair price to the services
provided.
There are different classification of hotels depending on the star rating, ownership,
location, services provided lodging being a must. A 5-star hotel is a luxurious stay, the
amenities provided are of international standards, the hospitality represents elegance and
high standards of professionalism, the restaurants services variety of cuisines and has a
skilled team to satisfy it, the interiors of such places are very impressive with attention to
details.
A hotel to be rated as 5-star it has to satisfy certain criterions, and standards to maintain.
The government of India set rules and regulations to maintain these standards.
Hospitality provided is dependent on the management of the hotel and the ownership. All
amenities are expected to be of excellent quality with a very hospitable atmosphere.
Other recreational facilities such as spa, swimming pools, gym, boutiques, exclusive
dining experiences are needed to add to the exposure of the luxury that one seeks in such
hotels.
A convention centre is a large building that is designed to hold a convention, where
individuals and groups gather to promote and share common interests. Convention
centres typically offer sufficient floor area to accommodate several thousand attendees.
Very large venues, suitable for major trade shows, are sometimes known as exhibition
halls. Convention centres typically have at least one auditorium and may also
contain concert halls, lecture halls, meeting rooms, and conference rooms. Some
large resort area hotels include a convention centre.
A banquet hall, function hall, or reception hall, is a special purpose room, or a building,
used for hosting large social and business events. Typically, a banquet hall is capable of
serving dozens to hundreds of people a meal in a timely fashion. A banquet hall or a
conventional hall at a hotel generates additional finance to the hotel, and act as
supplementary services to lodging and restaurants.
People and organizations rent them to hold parties, banquets, Wedding receptions, or
other social events. Businesses rent them to hold sales meetings, employee training
events, employee awards events, and corporate celebrations and parties. A 5-star hotel
with a banquet hall, at a very unique location can attract a lot of people to experience its
uniqueness.
A setting away from the usual urban setting to experience both magnificence of nature

and the grandeur of a 5 -star hotel further with the opportunity to host a successful event
will seize good attention to boost the fame and tourism of the place. Gokarna being a
pilgrimage destination in Karnataka along the scenic background of sea, and the beaches
not being crowded is a preferable location to encounter the splendour of the hotel.

AIM
To design a 5-star hotel that aims at becoming a landmark in the hospitality sector while
providing its users with the highest quality service and spaces.

OBJECTIVE
⦁ To design a 5-star hotel which caters spaces to for both lodging and gathering.

⦁ To use the site views to its maximum potential to intensify the beauty of the
location.
⦁ To create a very hospitable atmosphere that fit right in the context of the location.

⦁ To improves the region’s ability to attract large crowds for revenue generating
conventions.
⦁ To respect the heritage of the locality and promote its local culture.

⦁ SCOPE AND LIMITATION

SCOPE
⦁ To improve tourism which creates more economy to the location.

⦁ To provide a fundamental community space for the location, as convention


centres invites a large number of people.
⦁ Operating an intergrade convention facility with accommodating different needs
for different user groups.

⦁ Understanding spaces in terms of luxury and recreation.

⦁ Study local materials and construction technique to adhere to the climate and
coastal conditions.
LIMITATION
⦁ Since Gokarna is a pilgrimage destination but also can be visualized as a laid-back
version of goa, user group to the location is perplexed.
⦁ To analyse the constraints and opportunities of site.

⦁ Environmental factors.
