Grades & Grade Profiles
Important change to terminology within Workday
Grade
• Current CAE terminology: Band (Ex: Band 5 5,6,7)

• A standard compensation range for a given job.
• The result of the job evaluation based on specific factors.
• Tied directly to job profiles.
• May be further delineated into grade profiles and/or steps.
• Will not show when a job is not evaluated. You will see “no grade”.
Grade Profile
• Current CAE terminology: Salary Structure
• Defines pay ranges for grade levels by geographical regions or whatever sub-categories
our business requires. (Ex: Canada, USA, Dallas, Australia and others).
• Allows more granular compensation ranges for employees.
• May be further delineated into steps.

Type of Compensation Plans
•Compensation plans are either local, regional or corporate programs
•They are assigned to employees based on eligibility rules
Each compensation programs is categorized within one of the plan types herebelow

Plan Type When should the plan type be used?
Salary Plan To associate eligible salaried employees with the appropriate pay rate (yearly, monthly, weekly).
Hourly Plan To indicate the hourly pay rate for hourly paid employees.
Allowance Plans For compensation paid on a regular basis for a specific purpose, such as a meal allowance.
One-Time Payment To give an employee an ad-hoc payment, such as a retention bonus.
To award salary increase to a large group of employees off-cycle. Annual base salary increases

Bonus Plans To award bonus payment to a group of eligible employees.
Commission Plans To store information about compensation
