Start of the GD should not be longer than 2 min. Attention span is affected and others get restless as they are not able to speak for a longer time. This leads to risk of your point getting cut and a flop starting SURVIVE Make sure you do speak in between the GD (even after you have started the GD) This is where you make sure that the group is following the structure you have given to them in the start of the GD Introduce different angles and views on the GD topic along with EXAMPLES Avoid getting into a prolonged discussion or debate with any group member. ALWAYS speak points in favor of the topic and in opposition too (in case of controversial topic — 20min too less of a time to form opinions) Make a point to note down points made by others. This will help in summarizing the GD in the next stage Caveat — Do not speak for more than two or three times during the middle stage of the GD. If some one is not able to speak, encourage them to put their points forward. DO NOT TRY TO HOGG THE TIME during this stage @ unacademy Survive & THRIVE SUMMARIZE HOW TO END THE GD ON A HIGH NOTE pee May CALM AND SUMMARIZE @ unacademy It is a mean to conclude the GD and create that last impression on the minds of the panelists Anote of all the points which were brought upon during the discussion If you have no idea about the topic, understand it via others points and summarize in the end Don’t just repeat the points which others have said. Structure them properly and create a FLOW of the GD This helps in showing the panelists that you have comprehension, listening and speaking abilities and skills ALWAYS address the points to the group and NOT TO THE PANELISTS Try to lead the group towards conclusion. If that doesn't’t happen then acknowledge the fact while summarizing the GD @ unacademy Thank you! Strategy Frameworks to Approach GD LESSON 3 OF 9 Download the Unacademy Learning App to watch this and over 200k more lessons in UPSC, SSC CGL, GATE, Google Play ff @ App Sto CAT and many more categories. @ unacademy Various Frameworks to approach a Group Discussion By Anurag Jajoo hAttps://unacademy.com/user/anurag.ac; @ unacademy eee Why to use Frameworks oe Generation of Content Structure to the Group Discussion * Shows that your thoughts are more organized * Makes sure all the aspects of the topic are covered * Help in forming points when you have very less idea about the topic * Better formulation of the points @ unacademy eeee Key Words Approach eo TEPMS ce a business = words == Identify keywords in the topic Ex. GD Topic — Even Elephants do slip Dwell on these words — Think for Keywords — Elephants and slip information and data points on these =» Dwell on these words points | | Build content Build content and points based on * What can Elephants represent here these key words * Why they slip, how they slip * Live examples in sports, politics, etc. @ unacademy eeeee SPELT Approach oe HOW TO USE SPELT APPROACH TO GENERATE CONTENT IN A GD Technology @ unacademy ee Stakeholder Approach e HOW TO ANALYZE ANY GIVEN GD TOPIC FROM STAKEHOLDER’S POINT OF VIEW Which parties are involved with the given Topic + Identify all the stakeholders * Stakeholder —any person or entity which deals with, is affected by or is in any relation to the given topic Think from each and every Stakeholder’s point of view * Understand how the stakeholders are affected by the topic * List down all the effects (both positive and negative) Prepare a flow of all the points and present Create a logical structure in order to present the views of various stakeholders Randomly presenting the points will negatively affect your grading (no clarity of thoughts) Also helpful in summarizing the GD at the end of the discussion . @ unacademy eee General Advice oe HOW AND WHEN TO USE WHICH FRAMEWORK TO GET THE BEST OUTPUT Best to use Key Word Approach at the Start Use the Key Word Approach in the initial stage to formulate the starting point of the GD to create maximum impact Use SPELT Approach to give structure to the GD List down the areas which will be discussed during the GD with the help of SPELT Approach. This is one of the better ways to structure the GD. Other ways can also be used Apply Stakeholders Approach in the Middle Stage When points are getting dried up/argument seems to be starting, try and bringin a new perspective with the help of Stakeholders Approach. @ unacademy Thank you!
