Video-Based Road Safety Study

This chapter describes the methodology used in the study about the impact of video-based road safety education among motorcycle drivers in Merida-Palompon, Leyte. It uses a descriptive research design to understand the topic. 30 motorcycle drivers were selected through stratified random sampling - 10 from each of Merida, Isabel, and Palompon. Interviews were conducted to collect drivers' opinions, experiences, and feelings. Data was analyzed using weighted mean to evaluate the video approach. Ethical considerations included obtaining permission and ensuring voluntary participation.

CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

This Chapter describes the methods used that will be employed in this study on
the “ Road Safety Education: The Impact of video- based Approach to Safety Driving
Among Merida- Palompon Motorcycle Drivers”. This section covers the Research
Design, Research Participants, Research Instrument, Sampling Technique, Research
Environment, Data Gathering process, Statistical Treatment and Ethical Consideration
were employed. This chapter’s components are all utilized to achieve the study goal.

Research Design
The study focuses on descriptive, design and development research and
utilizes researchers’ better understanding of a topic in terms of Road Safety Education:
The Impact of Video-based Approach to Safety Driving among Merida Motorcycle
Drivers. Descriptive research design is a type of research design that aims to obtain
information to systematically describe a phenomenon, situation, or population. Design
and development research, a type of inquiry unique to the instructional design and
technology field dedicated to the creation of new knowledge and the validation of
existing practice.

Research Participants
Following a careful selection of respondents and their acknowledge, the
researcher reached and extended an invitation for them to take part in the data
gathering for the study. They were advised of their right to decline the researcher and to
confirm that participation was voluntary. The researcher immediately notified the
respondents that the information they supplied would be treated in strict confidence
after they had consented to participate. They were subsequently told to their
participation and the audio or video recording.
The chosen respondents were all motorcycle drivers from Merida- Palompon
Leyte. The researchers chose 30 motorcycle drivers. 10 from Merida, Leyte, 10 from
Isabel, Leyte and 10 from Palompon, Leyte.

Research Instrument
To gather the information required for this study, the researchers produced an
interview for motorcycle drivers to collect in-depth information on their opinions
thoughts, experiences and feelings. For validation, we use pilot survey to implement the
LTO officials as our first respondents.

Sampling Technique
In this study we use stratified random sampling. This method is used to ensure
that different segments in a group of motorcycle drivers are equally represented.
Stratified random sampling is equally represent the opinions of motorcycle drivers in
Merida to Palompon, Leyte.

Research Environment
The respondents who were interviewed by the researchers were the motorcycle
drivers who live in Merida, Isabel and Palompon, Leyte. This municipality has a lot of
motorcycle drivers who use them as transportation. This will enable the researcher to
gather significant data on the impact of the video-based approach to safety driving
among Merida motorcycle drivers.

Data Gathering
Before conducting or showing the video about the road signs and signals to the
drivers of Merida, Isabel and Palompon Leyte we determine first our audience. Then,
get a copy of the road signs/signal to the LTO office, Write a storyboard and script,
create a video and arrange the content. After creating the video, audio recording will be
followed. Edit the video and finalize the content. Ask for expert validators. And lastly,
show the video to the motorcycles. In doing the interview, the researcher will formulate
an open-ended questions for interview. After formulating the questions for interview, it
will be submit to their advisers for approval. Then, the researcher submit a formal letter
to the Municipality of Merida, Isabel and Palompon, so the researchers will be allowed
to conduct the study. After that, conduct a video interview to the motorcycle drivers. The
researchers will analyze the data that will be gathered by conducted interview. After
analyzing, the researchers will interpret the data.

Statistical Treatment
In analyzing the data collected from open ended questions, the researcher will
use the weighted mean, were it used to determine the evaluation of the interview about
the video approach of road signs/signal. The following scale was used in describing the
mean rating.
Weighted Mean Description
4.50 – 5.00 Outstanding
3.50 – 4.49 Very Satisfactory
2.50 – 3.49 Satisfactory
1.50 – 2.49 Fair
1.00 – 1.49 Poor

Ethical Considerations
In conducting the research study the researcher submit a formal letter permission to the
Municipality of Merida, Isabel and Palompon, Leyte. The researcher did not force the
respondents, they depend to those who are willing to be interviewed. But, before the
interview the they let them know the questions of the interview, so that they will have
time to think the possible answers. Also, the researcher follow the safety protocols of
the Municipality since COVID-19 is still existing.
