FOR FULL-TIME UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS

1. COURSE NAME: FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

Number of Credit: 03

2. DEPARTMENT IN CHARGE OF INSTRUCTION:

Office Hours: 9am-11am Tuesday

3. PRE-REQUISITE:
Money and Financial Theory, Probability and Mathematical Statistics

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed to give a basic knowledge of financial management, enable
students to make financial decision. The main contents of the course are as follows :
Understanding the roles and goal of financial management.
Understanding companies’ financial statements.
Analyzing companies’ financial situation.
Understanding time value of money.
Evaluating the price of corporate bonds and stocks.
Understanding costs of capital.
Understanding capital budgeting.
Analyzing short-term financial decision.

5. COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Knowledge: By the end of the course students are expected to be able to :
- Understand the functions, the roles, the goal and the processes of corporate
financial management and identify the major types of organization forms.
- Construct basic financial statements (balance sheet, income statement and cash
flow statement)
- Solve time value of money problems involving present value, future value,
annuity, and perpetuity.
- Calculate costs of debt, costs of equity, and costs of capital.
- Make investment decisions using criteria such as Net present value, Internal
rate of return, Payback period, and Profitability index.
- Make decisions related to working capital management.
Skills: Students are require to build up both personal and inter-personal skills during
and after the course. Specifically, students will develop and promote the use of their
skills in :
- Apply basic mathematical techniques to analyze business and economic data.
- Apply appropriate theories and nalysis tools and methods to financial decision
making.
- Evaluate the applicability of various theories and techniques to business and
economics related problems.
- Interact effectively will others in order to work towards a common outcome in
group disccussion and presentation.
Attitude : Students are expected to show the following attitudes during the coures:

9. ASSESSMENT & GRADING POLICY:


Class participation 10%
Group Project 20%
Mid-term exam 20%
Final exam: 50%

- Class participation: All students are expected to participate actively in class


discussion. This includes evidence of thorough prior preparation of course
materials, engaging in exercies, etc. Attendance at all sessions is required
except in previously arranged cases/emergencies. Each absent tick (x) in the
checking list will reduce this grade by the proportion to the total lesson hours.
- Group project: Student is required to self-select into group of no more than 5
students. They will choose one of topics in the list given by the instructor.
- Mid-term exam: The mid-term exam will be a 90-minute closed-book exam.
- Final exam: The final exam will be a 90-minute closed-book exam. It will
cover all elements of the entire course. This exam is designed to test the
students’ understanding of key concepts in the subject as well as their skills of
computing and analyzing financial problems.
