1.3. Prepare an SFP using the account form
TOPIC Preparation of Statement of Financial Position
The Statement of Financial Position is a report based on the basic accounting equation:
CONCEPT Assets = Liabilities + Owners Equity. In the equation are the three major accounting
elements of the SFP. The basic accounting equation reflects the elements of the
Statement of Financial Position. The two acceptable formats used in the preparation of
the SFP are the account form and the report form. The Account Form easily shows the
accounting equation. The SFP is balanced, and it separates Assets from Liabilities and
Equities. The Assets are reported on the left and Liabilities and Equity are presented
on the right. The Report Form of the SFP shows asset accounts first and then liabilities
and
owner’s equity accounts after.
